Chapter 100 – Mahina and Ior

Mahina also stood there frozen in shock when she laid eyes on the child who had suddenly appeared.

“Hey, what are you guys yelling about?!” (Aika)

My older sister came rushing over from the kitchen.

“Huh? What’s wrong, you two?” (Aika)

“O-Onee-chan… Uhhh…” (Koine)

“What in the world…. Eh?” (Aika)

My older sister finally noticed the child sleeping in the blatantly abnormal flower. For a moment, silence flowed between the three of us.

The first to speak was Mahina.

“You’ll catch a cold if you sleep here, you know?” Mahina said, poking the child’s body.

“…Nghh…”

Then, the sleeping child showed signs of waking.

After a few flutters of its half-opened eyes, it slowly raised its upper body and rubbed its eyes with its small hands. Then, it turned its captivating deep blue eyes towards us.

…So cute…

Of course, my sister Mahina was cute, too. She was just like an angel.

But this child was cute in a completely different way from Mahina. It felt as if I was observing a perfectly polished work of art from the ends of the earth.

The child had smooth blonde hair, and each strand seemed to be made from the finest silk. Its skin had a youthful sheen that looked like it had the elasticity of mochi. Looking into its bright, gem-like eyes was something that felt like it would never get old. It was exuding an aura that gave it the impression of being somewhat fragile.

The child was a perfect intersection of sublime cuteness, beauty, and dignity, in a manner that felt far removed from reality.

There was once a time where pictures of such truly adorable children were uploaded on social media and TV, but even compared to those children, this child had a charm that was clearly of a different caliber.

“…..#$….$G….OI*?”

Suddenly, the child opened its mouth and spoke while looking around restlessly at the surroundings.

I couldn’t tell if it was a boy or girl just by looking. But the child’s voice sounded very pleasant to listen to.

However, it was clear that the child was speaking a language that wasn’t Japanese. Also, the child’s ears were tapered horizontally to a point. I found myself staring fixedly at the child’s ears, which clearly didn’t belong to a human.

“….Sniff.”

The child’s blank face suddenly sniffled, its expression twisting into the start of a sob.

Well, it made sense. Such a small child had woken up, surrounded by a bunch of unfamiliar people after all.

I immediately started to try and comfort the child, but…

“Waaaaaah!!!”

A high-pitched wail echoed out around us. If it was just that, it wouldn’t be a big problem. Mahina often cried too, so I was used to it.

What in the world is this?

When the child began to cry, the surrounding plants began to grow rapidly in response.

“W-Whoa, whoa! What is happeniiiing?!” my older sister exclaimed in astonishment.

Grass and vines grew out from the ground and started to entangle the walls and house.

“Onee-chan?!” (Koine)

My older sister’s legs were bound, restricting her movements.

No, now that I realized it, both of my legs were also already restrained by the grass as well. The grass ran up the length of my body and began to strangle my neck. The powerful strength of the grass was unyielding. If it continued like this, I would suffocate.

The flowers that I had been growing, which should have already been withered, somehow came back to life and started to bloom wildly. The stems of the flower extended out and gathered around the child, as if they were trying to protect the child.

W-What in the world is going on?! T-This child…?!

If the child was capable of such a thing, it might not be a human after all, but a monster. The moment I thought to myself that it was no wonder that it possessed an inhuman level of beauty, I realized that only Mahina wasn’t being attacked by the grasses, flowers, and other plants.

“Ma..hi…na, no….!” (Koine)

If she got close, she would get killed by this incomprehensible power.

But no plants attacked Mahina as she stood right by the child’s side.

“There, there. Good boy, good boy.” Mahina cooed, gently patting the child’s head.

“Are you hurt somewhere? Then, hurtiehurt, fly away~ !” (Mahina)

The moment Mahina said this, the child suddenly stopped crying.

And then…

“….Y&?” (Child)

“Ma-chan is Ma-chan!” (Mahina)

“Ma…chan?” (Child)

“Yeah! What’s your name?” (Mahina)

“$S…..$SH—Ior.”

“Ee-ore? Ior is your name? Hmm… Then, I’ll call you Ii-chan! (Mahina)

“Ii…chan…?” (Ior)

Wait a second, how are they communicating?

“M-Mahina? Do you understand what that child is saying?” (Koine)

“Yeah, I do!” (Mahina)

…I had no idea on what basis she was able to understand him. However, it seemed that there was no language barrier between the two of them.

“You see, Ii-chan is looking for his Onee-chan!” (Mahina)

“His onee-chan? Does this child have an older sister?” (Koine)

“Yeah! He said that she was with him just a moment ago.” (Mahina)

….I see. The reason why he was crying was because he didn’t have his older sister by his side anymore.

“Let’s play together, Ii-chan!” (Mahina)

Mahina held out her hands toward the child, whose name was Ior. He looked unsure, but he eventually reached out slowly and grabbed her hands.

At that moment, the plants that had been attacking us stopped, and the long grasses that had been binding us fell to the ground as if they had lost their strength.

“Haaah, hah… W-We’re saved…” (Aika)

I know you’re relieved, Onee-chan, but how is it decent at all for a woman to fall on her butt with her legs spread like that?

But it really was true that we were saved. All thanks to Mahina.

I gently approached Mahina from behind, and when I arrived next to her, Ior hid behind her and peered at me with a frightened expression.

“It’s okay, Ii-chan! This is Ma-chan’s onee-chan!” (Mahina)

When Ior heard what she said and replied to her, seemingly in inquiry, Mahina responded.

“Yeah! She’s suuuper kind!” (Mahina)

As expected, Mahina really seemed to understand what Ior was saying and smiled brightly at him as she replied.

Then, our older sister also approached them and squatted down so her eyes were on the same level as Ior’s.

To be honest, I was a bit scared. Without a doubt, this child wasn’t ordinary.

But even so, looking at him now, he really did seem to look like a lonely, lost child. So…

“Hello, Ior. My name is Koine. Nice to meet you.”

I wasn’t sure if he understood, but I gestured, putting my hand on my chest to emphasize that my name was ‘Koine’.

“Koine…?” (Ior)

“Yes, yes. And I’m their older sister, Aika.”

Our older sister also emphasized her name in a similar way.

“Ai…ka…” (Ior)

“You can just call them Ko-chan and Aa-chan!” (Mahina)

Mahina sometimes called us that instead of ‘onee-chan’.

“Ko-chan, Aa-chan…” (Ior)

I was relieved that Mahina’s introduction seemed to put Ior a little more at ease towards us.

“But… Ah, man… What should we do with this situation…?” (Aika)

Onee-chan was looking around, seeming a bit lost considering what to do. The grass, vines, and flowers had become so thick and overgrown that the place looked like a garden that had been neglected for hundreds of years.

“GR%….&XC.” (Ior)

Ior looked a bit despondent, perhaps acknowledging that it was his own doing. Perhaps he was apologizing.

“Ahh, it’s okay, it’s okay! It may not look like it, but your onee-chans are actually pretty good at cleaning! Right, Koine?!” (Aika)

“Huh? Y-Yeah, yeah! That’s right! So don’t worry about it, Ior-chan!” (Koine)

If he started crying again and the plants started going out of control again, it would be too much for us to handle. If we weren’t careful, the house could end up in shambles. Now that I thought about it, it was seriously good that Mahina was here with us.

Perhaps it was because Mahina was a child of a similar age to him that Ior was able to open up to her. I could only shudder when I thought about what might have happened if it was just me and onee-chan.

When Mahina told Ior how we felt towards him, Ior looked relieved.

“For now, it might be better to talk to Ior first and put cleaning off until later. Is that okay with you, Ior-chan?” (Aika)

When onee-chan asked that, Ior once again gripped Mahina’s clothes anxiously.

Mahina patted Ior on the head comfortingly and said, ‘it’s okay, it’s okay’, and then led him into the house.
