Now that the matter with the religious order was settled, I bid farewell to Sayuri and Aoyama and returned to Joysprout Island.
After a long, long time living with the religious order… I felt like it wouldn’t be a bad idea to slow things down and relax on the island for a while.
After all, fighting and negotiating with S-Rank monsters, followed by a surprise raid by the yakuza and so on all in rapid succession was a bit too much for me.
I wanted to live a comfortable, leisurely life on the island, but it was proving to be quite difficult.
Especially when it came to going up against S-Rank monsters. Something like that was already on the level of a great calamity. If an S-Rank attacked this island, we wouldn’t stand a chance the way things were now.
I had more than ¥12 billion in my possession, but if you were to ask me whether I could scrounge up enough to afford an S-Rank monster, I would have to shake my head sadly.
I would probably need around ¥1 trillion…
“Maybe I should just sell any buildings I can lay my hands on at this point.”
I avoided selling other peoples’ possessions as much as possible, but at this point maybe I should just embrace the thieves’ mentality.
However, I still had to keep my own principles in mind. I didn’t want to do anything that would go against what I thought was right.
But then again, what if the property or item was clearly abandoned?
“But things still under peoples’ ownership don’t sell for very much though.”
I tried it before. One time, I tried to check the selling price of a two-story home owned by someone else by storing it in the <Box>.
The original price would have been ¥50,000,000, but the selling price it showed was only ¥2,500,000. In other words, it was only about 5% of the original price. And this was for properties that were purchased less than a year ago too.
Of course, the property’s value would drop if it was dirty or damaged in any way or if the house had been lived in for a long time.
As a result, I would have to sell the properties at a much lower price.
If I were to try to make ¥1 trillion like this, all of the buildings in the city would be gone. If I did that, it would make me feel like I was the one who had brought about a disaster, and it would make me feel horrible.
“Man, I really wanna find a way that will go bang… and make me a ton of money all at once.”
I was sitting on the porch in front of the house, thinking to myself, when Ior and Yofel came over.
“Your face is making it look like your soul is leaving your body. Are you okay, Master?” (Yofel)
“Are you… feeling okay…?” (Ior)
“No, don’t worry about me. I’m feeling great. Oh yeah, I heard that you and Yofel have been going to Nike’s island recently to help him with the farm work, Ior.” (Bouchi)
“Yeah… Ma-chan is always so happy to see me.” (Ior)
He and Mahina sure were close. Mahina was a good girl, and I hoped she would grow up as honest and straightforward as she was now.
“But it’s a bit surprising. I didn’t think Master would let him do something to benefit someone else’s island.” (Yofel)
“Hey you, how narrow-minded do you think I am? As long as it doesn’t harm me, I won’t restrict anyone’s freedom. I always let you and Ior do what you want, right?” (Bouchi)
“That’s true… And as your attendants, we are happy for it.” (Yofel)
Well, Ior wasn’t my attendant yet.
“Anyway Master, why were you like that even though you’re feeling fine? If you have any troubles on your mind, please tell me. Perhaps I may be able to do something about it.” (Yofel)
I was grateful for their thoughtfulness, but well… the two of them were otherworlders, so they wouldn’t know of any hidden treasures on Earth or anything… Huh? Wait, otherworlders…?
“…Hey, Yofel. In the other world, where you guys used to live, were there any legends about, say, treasure for example, which could serve as a way for me to quickly make a fortune?” (Bouchi)
Perhaps there were islands with hidden treasure on them that had been transported to Earth, or something like that.
“Quickly make a fortune? Hmm…” (Yofel)
As expected, there was no way there would be such a convenient story, huh?
“…Well, there are several stories.” (Yofel)
“I’ll bet. Stories about making an easy fortune would be—wait, what? There are several?” (Bouchi)
“Yes, but I don’t know much about the details.” (Yofel)
“Ooh, please tell!” (Bouchi)
“A-Alright. You look somewhat motivated now, Master.” (Yofel)
“Come on, hurry up and tell me!” (Bouchi)
“F-Fine. Ahem… First is the story of the hidden treasure of the famous pirate, Duarte Taylor.” (Yofel)
“A pirate, huh…?” (Bouchi)
“Yes. He’s not alive anymore, but he was once one of the most famous heroes in our world. He once fought off one of the Empire’s fleets consisting of 30 ships with just a single pirate ship.” (Yofel)
That sounded like an amazing feat. I didn’t know how strong the Empire’s fleets were, but their forces were 30 times greater than his. The fact that he was able to fight them off instead of trying to flee was shocking.
“Duarte was the most powerful pirate captain of his time, and he was a man without equal. But in his later years, he fell ill. It was rumored that he landed his ship somewhere and hid the treasure he had gathered over the decades.” (Yofel)
“I see. So that’s the part about the hidden treasure, huh?” (Bouchi)
“Yes. But of course, there were many famous adventurers and treasure hunters who set out to find his treasure… But as far as I’m aware, it hasn’t been found yet.” (Yofel)
Still, there was a possibility there, and it was worth seeing if the island had been transported to this world.
This was treasure left behind by a legendary pirate. As a man with some romance in his heart, I had some interest in it aside from simply earning money.
“And then there’s the… Mirage Diamond Ruins, I guess?” (Yofel)
“Ooh, that sounds like a topic that any woman would jump at.” (Bouchi)
“Well, as its name might suggest, it’s a ruin where there are a lot of a single type of gem, diamond. The rumors say that the ruins themselves are made out of diamond.” (Yofel)
That sounded incredible. If I were able to get my hands on that, I would be able to spend ten lifetimes taking it easy and not having to work.
“But because it’s said to be a mirage, no one has actually found it.” (Yofel)
“So why are there rumors about it?” (Bouchi)
“Because it was written in the journal left behind by a mysterious adventurer named Yomiya.” (Yofel)
“Yomiya…?” (Bouchi)
For some reason, this name… I felt like I’d heard it somewhere, but where?
“Apparently, he’s already passed away. In the journal that Yomiya left behind, he wrote about his many adventures. And in one account, he mentioned the Mirage Diamond Ruins.” (Yofel)
