Sitting back down on the sofa with a fresh coffee in hand, Amara started contemplating.

What kind of spell should I try to create?

I suppose what I’m really looking for is to see what’s possible. The risk of getting double the mana cost because you’re not imagining something properly really is a harsh penalty.

Also, having to draw a magic circle as well as supply a mental image seems rather inefficient. And stupid, if the spell is further enhanced by imagining what the spell does when you cast it. It would be much better if all you had to focus on was the magic circle.

Amara took a sip of coffee and enjoyed the scent as she crossed her legs.

Technically, you could have everything done invisibly just like with the Heat spell. But if I want to encourage the people in my domain to use the new spells I create, then it would be chaos on the battlefield if nobody can see what’s happening. Even though I haven’t spent much time thinking about how the people on Teyrin can help, they’re going to have to fight whether they want to or not, just like me.

Amara sighed as she glanced over the papers spread out over the table.

I wonder...what if I made a Flame spell that only has the part about what is displayed, making it only an illusion?

Amara put down the cup, got a pen and new paper before she started drawing a new magic circle, filling out the details for an altered version of the Flame spell.

I don’t know what mana costs would work, but I guess it doesn’t really matter for a single test. Might as well go overboard and use the same mana cost as for Flame.

I suppose I don’t know if this will be a new spell or not either. It should be, considering Flame without the image is Heat.

Satisfied with how to approach her first test, she activated her class skill and started drawing the magic circle.

‘-:

Once invoked and while channeled: display flashy flames of fire at the focus point of the mental image. If not supplied, draw an image of flashy flames of fire from the caster's subconscious preferences and double mana required to invoke. Mana required to invoke: 10. Minimum upkeep: 1 mana per second.’

Activate.

[Ding!]

[Ding!]

[Ding!]

A large yellow flame appeared where the magic circle had been. Amara moved her hand through the fire, not feeling any heat before she was satisfied with her test and cut off the flow of mana maintaining the spell.
