Three loud knocks on her front door was enough to set her and her aching hangover off. Cabana sat up, her eyes opening to the bright light coming through the window. Her bedroom was a complete mess, her clothes were strewn haphazardly all over the place. Her mattress was partially hanging off of it’s frame, yet she somehow slept like a rock. Mostly empty bottles of alcohol lay on the ground like she had fallen asleep in a bar’s alleyway. Cabana looked down at her nude body and thought back to what happened the previous night, three more knocks on her door took her out of her reverie and made her hangover pound all the much harder.
“Alright! Alright...Shit.” She stood up and quickly put on a bathrobe to cover herself up. Her living room was a mess, nothing unusual for her crazier nights, Maker the smell of it was enough to give her a good idea of what was going on, not to mention a few stains on her rug she was not looking forward to cleaning. Her couch was on it’s back, the bookshelf was on the floor, and some of her training weapons were off of their holders.
Cabana stepped over her knocked over rocking chair and reached to unlock her front door when there was another knock from the other side, Cabana put her hand up to her temple. You are reading story Ascension: Untold Tales at novel35.com
“I’m here! Save the Maker, fuck.” Cabana pulled her door open to see Igon in front of the door.
“Good mor-damn!” The dragon exclaimed, holding his nose “You could use a shower, the fuck happened to you last night?” He asked.
“I….I’m not sure, looks like I had one hell of a night though.” She said, looking at her home, “So….what may I do for you this fine morning?”
“I’m looking for Vasuki. I thought he might be here, or maybe you’ve seen him somewhere?”
“No, just woke up actually. You check the cemetery?”
“He’s not at his mother’s grave.”
“The Market?”
“No.”
“His room?”
“Not a trace.”
“Maybe he got himself a girl to spend the night with?” Cabana finally suggested.
“It’s possible, but he would’ve at least told me where he was going that night.” Cabana patted his shoulder.
“I’m sure he’s fine. He’s stronger than you give him credit for. Maybe not as magically skilled as his mother but he definitely caught on with his training pretty quick. I’d say he’s as almost as good as a trained knight.”
“He’s had a good teacher. I’ll go look around and keep you updated.”
After Igon walked off of her steps and into the forest Cabana turned around to examine the state of her home.
“Dammit.” She knew she needed to get to cleaning but there was something important she needed to check. She could feel the familiar sensation of something crawling down her back but it seemed distant, unlike yesterday where she could feel it breathing down her back. She lifted her rocking chair up and pushed it out of the center of the living room before she sat, her legs crossed, on the rug. She closed her eyes and breathed in counting to five, then stopping before letting the air out of her lungs.
Wind whipped at her hair, when she opened her eyes she saw the raging hurricane within her soul and the creature responsible. A beast of black fur and pitch white claws, trapped within a metal cage. She walked on the invisible floor of wind towards the imprisoned monster. She reached her hand into the air, her palm open and facing towards the sky.
“Calm.” The funnel of gusts that surrounded them immediately came to a stop. Cabana breathed a sigh of relief and looked at the monster and it’s cage.
“Whatever do you want, Cabana?” Halonoah asked, it’s voice was breathy and deep.
“Your bars were reinforced by your self-indulgence. Frankly, it is sickening.” She was almost shocked to see that the beast wasn’t lying to her.
“What’s wrong? Are you jealous you couldn’t join?” It let out a sickening laugh before responding.
“Bah! I have no desire to fill an infertile whore, such as yourself, with my seed.” Cabana saw red for a moment, and when she could feel her composure falter. She could almost hear the sound of the bars beginning to weaken.
“Have you forgotten that you were the one that broke that ability?”
“Hm….no….we became a powerful duo. The amethyst. The monster of the black winds. The hidden. Umbra. We earned many titles working together.” Halonoah claimed, a bar bent outwards as he continued to dig into her.
“Well, I’m sorry Halonoah, but I have a filthy house to clean,” She quickly closed her eyes and willed herself home before the monster could get another word out.
Cabana could feel a fresh tear rolling down her right cheek before rubbing it away. The truth was that Halonoah scared her, and it knew how to break everything she stood for and reduce her to nothing with just a few silencing phrases, she had fought dragons, demons, and some of the most powerful men and women she had ever known. But the history of Halonoah and the fact that it became her Ascender scared her more than any battle ever had. She came to a stand, calmed herself then went on to clean her home. It was quick work, though the rug would have to soak and then dry overnight, turns out there were a lot more unwanted stains on it. If she could remember last night she could slap the fucker that inconvenienced her this bad.
She leaned back in her bath, enjoying the warmth that came from the nashatalian runes in the body of the bath. She’d have to do something to fix that bent bar around Halonoah. She could do it in the bathtub, but it was nowhere near as fun by herself than it was with someone else. She absentmindedly dipped her fingers in the green paste and rubbed it on the teeth marks in her shoulder and calves, holding off the pain that came from the lifetime venom of the hellhound bites. After letting it set for twenty minutes she washed the paste off, got dressed in a beige tunic and brown breeches before making her way to her favorite place to get alcohol, as well as hopefully find an afternoon plaything.
Walking through the doors of the Dragon’s Den she was met with familiar faces and smells. The smell of alcohol, sweat, and wonderful food. Unfortunately for Igon she wasn’t interested in eating in-house. She waved at Mai and took a seat at a table in the corner of the bar. It was her usual seat when she was ‘scouting’ for a good time.
“What can I get for you?” Mai asked. Cabana had barely even noticed she had made her way over to take her order.
“Hellhound Whisky, and the bottle for the road.” She replied, not looking away from a cute brunette with hair that barely swayed against her shoulders, she was calmly sipping her drink while surrounded by three guys who were cheering over a hunt. She was the only human of the group and for some reason she just stood out to the feline.
“Here’s your whisky. If you’d like anything please feel free to say so, okay Cabana?” Mai suggested.
“I might, who knows?” She claimed playfully before smiling. When she looked up the brunette was looking her way. Cabana smiled and gave a small wave before gesturing to the seat in front of her. The woman looked at the group she was sitting for a moment before shrugging her shoulders and coming to a stand. It wasn’t often her potential toys came to her.
Cabana checked the girl out as she made her way over. Grey doublet, that wasn’t too tight against her skin, she had a normal sized pair of breasts, probably a C-cup. Her skin was slightly tanned, and as she got closer she could see that her eyes were a light brown. She wasn’t too tall, just ever so slightly shorter than Cabana. She couldn’t wait to break her in.
