Derek crept through the window into the 4 story house. His target was Mujahid Karim, a middle eastern freedom fighter that was protected by diplomatic immunity. A man that was the definition of scum. The lowest of the low. There was no proof, but he was in the area of 6 different bombings, including the destruction of the statue of Christ, the redeemer in Rio de Janeiro , however, he always had a perfectly crafted alibi. This was a man that was responsible for the death of hundreds, and the cause of the grief of thousands. Derek silently slinked into the house, slid into an upper floor bedroom, and opened the door. He crept downstairs and froze as one of the stairs creaked. Blissfully, however, there were no cries of alarm. He continued on and heard noise coming from the living room. He poked his head around the door and saw Mujahid watching TV. He then pulled out a circular object from his belt and removed a gas mask from his clothing. He then slid the gas mask onto his face and rolled the object in. Within seconds, a cloud of noxious white smoke emitted from the object.
There were cries of alarm from the security guards that quickly fell silent. Derek padded into the room, aiming down the sites of his custom-made Tec-9, with an illegal full-auto modification. Derek then yanked down his thermal vision tactical goggles and went into the smoke. He looked around the room, checking that all the guards were unconscious. However, Mujahid Karim was not. Suddenly, Derek gritted his teeth as he heard a clack from the smoke grenade, and the smoke started to dissipate. As it cleared, he blinked, and the next moment, the terrorist had knocked him over and was on top of him.
Derek quickly regained his wits, and just as the terrorist was about to stab him through the heart, he pushed his arm away, preventing it from being fatal. However, he didn't push it far enough and the knife plunged into his shoulder. Derek screamed in agony, however he was coherent enough to force him off and roll backwards. He looked around, and saw the grey, metallic sheen of his Tec-9. He frantically rushed toward the gun, as did Mujahid. He slid forward and picked up the gun first. He levelled his gun at him and pressed the trigger.
Mujahid Karim was having a terrible day. The Americans had already sent several assassins after him, and the more he killed, the better they got. Finally, while he was watching TV, an unknown object rolled into the room. Mujahid grabbed a gas mask from one of his guards and slid it on. Then the room blossomed into a pure white cloud. Mujahid looked around frantically, breathing heavily. He then he heard two thuds, as his guards fell onto the marble floor. He pulled out the knife he always had on his person and held in front of him with the countenance of an expert.
Clack! The smoke started to dissipate. As it did so, Mujahid caught a glimpse of a black-clothed figure through the smoke. He rushed towards him and knocked him over, sending his gun scattering across the floor, coming to a stop 10 feet away from then. He then brought his knife down, but as the assassin was about to die, he redirected the knife with his arms, and it plunged into his shoulder. The assassin screamed and Mujahid smiled in satisfaction. However, his eyes widened in alarm as he dashed for the gun. He ran for it as well, even though he knew he would be too late. He watched in despair as the black clothed man pointed his tec-9 at him. This was it. His death. There were still so many things he wanted to do, but alas, it was not to be.
Derek watched in satisfaction as a spray of bullets sunk into the man's head, killing him instantly. His look of satisfaction quickly changed to one of horror as brain matter and blood sprayed all over him. Some even went in his mouth, and he knew from experience that some would remain for the next time he swallowed, which he was not looking forward to. Then Derek blinked.
Derek suddenly found himself gripped with pain. He jerked around and managed to look at his arms. The skin was writhing and it looked like his muscles were visible growing. After his bodily pain stopped, an agonizing headache appeared, and Derek fell to the ground, clutching his head. Although he was in pain, he suddenly better remembered memories from long ago, and recalled them with perfect clarity. As he lived through his memories, Derek started picking up more details, he looked at the body language of his classmates, in one vivid memory, noticed the signs that said he was lying, the way he talked, his body language, his stutter.
Then, the pain shut off, and Derek found himself in a forest, in a group of people, all of which were panicking. However, the noise quietened down and they all turned to stare at him like he was a new novelty zoo attraction. He looked down at himself and realised he must be quite the spectacle. Gore covered clothes, a pistol in his hand, bleeding from his shoulder. He observed his group of 10, and as his gaze swept over them, they shrank back in terror from the mysterious man who clearly looked like he had just committed a murder. He looked around and saw similar sized groups of other people, for as far as the eye could see. He whipped his head around as a disembodied voice projected itself across the noise.

Derek's jaws drooped wider the more the voice talked as he digested the monumental news they had just been give. Some started to break down, weeping over the loss of their home, and separation from family and friends. After hearing this message though, a wild thought popped up in Derek's head. He used to be an avid player of games in his spare time, so he recognized some similarities, and if there were some, there were probably others, so he did what any self-respecting gamer would do in this situation, and said the word "status." As he said this, a list of letters and numbers unfolded in front of him

Derek frowned at the achievements section of his status, and his abnormally high stats. He concentrated on the achievement "First Kill!" and an explanation came up.
Due to being the first user to kill a fellow user on your version of the system you gain an unique achievement. As it is a unique achievement, you get +5 to all stats!
Derek then concentrated on the following two.
Due to ingesting a fellow user of the same species you gain the Cannibal achievement. This achievement gives you a +1 to all stats per 10 levels of a user you ingest!
Due to ingesting a fellow user's brain matter you gain +3 intelligence and a +1 to intelligence for every 10 levels a user has after you ingest its brain matter!
Bonus: As the first user to gain an achievement, after killing a foe, you have a 33% chance to gain their highest level ability and skill which you do not have and a 50% chance to get an ability OR skill
When Derek noticed the last line in his status, his eyes bulged. That was a really powerful ability. If he killed an experienced swordsman, he might become an expert overnight, if it was their highest skill level. Furthermore, it couldn't be one he already owned. Eventually, he could become a master at every weapon, an expert in all types of art, a perfect musician, anything!
After subtracting his bonuses, he assumed that 10 was the average for humanity based on the games he played in the past. Overall he was quite happy with his stats, however his titles would not look good if anybody was to somehow read them from his status. After carefully reading the skills section of his status, he frowned at only seeing 3 there. Surely he had more than that. Then, he connected the dots, courtesy of his high intelligence, which was probably the highest out of all humans right now, that he had to show his skills to level them up, which would make sense as he demonstrated his assassination and stealth before, and he held his gun perfectly.
As Derek analysed the increasingly agitated crowd, he realised that his skills as an assassin might come in useful here. He recalled what the voice said, and he wasn't one to shy from danger. He quietly disengaged from the crowd and snuck off into the forest. It was time to hunt.
