Chapter 17: Fights

Saibus POV:

After his intervention, Leonidas announced the order of the fighting.

"First fight: Airi against Bett."

"Second fight: Soge vs. Zorr."

Third fight: Desmond against Saibus. "

Fourth fight: Thirteen against Vick. "

Last fight: Robin against Lydia. "

Hearing my name, I look at the other novices to assess them. I watch them one by one before my gaze falls on Desmond. Desmond is a 16-year-old young man. He has dark hair in a shortcut. He also had blue eyes. He's pretty tall and wasn't, but you could tell he was strong. He wore a white jacket, a white T-shirt, and black pants. From my observation and expression, he is the most substantial novice beside me, but there are chances to win thanks to his size and experience bigger than mine.

Moreover, he is among the most likely novices to become an apprentice. So it promises an exciting fight. I smiled and then settled against the wall to observe the two rows before mine with my reflection.

The first fight is Airi against Bett. Airi is a young girl with pale skin and white hair, most likely due to depigmentation. I could see a bow and short swords at his hip. She must surely be an archer and uses the shortsword when her opponent is close to her. Unlike her, Bett is a melee fighter. She wears metallic gloves with retractable claws. Bett is a young woman. She has caramel skin and black hair.

Airi and Bett stepped forward and positioned themselves within 50 yards. Leonidas stepped forward and stood between them.

"The match will start when I give you the start."

"Ready?"  The girls nodded at his question.

"2"

"1"

"Go"

As Leonidas gave the signal, Bett and Airi rushed toward each other. When they made contact, Bett landed a hook on Airi's temple, which she dodged and gave a short sword blow. With her speed, Airi managed to leave a thin cut on Bett's left arm. But Bett's training and strong constitution don't seem to bother her. Airi broke away from Bett and started attacking her with his bow. Bett is forced to get closer to Airi to fight her, but Airi wouldn't let her get any closer using her arrows with different effects.

Airi started throwing icy arrows at her to slow Bett or freeze the ground beneath her to throw her off balance. Then she switched with piercing arrows to pass Bett's defense as the ice arrows didn't slow her down. Seeing how the battle was going, Bett got excited, and her skin turned red. She seemed to be entering an agitated state. She rushed towards Airi without caring about the arrows she was throwing at him. Airi's arrows bounced off Bett's armor and skin.

Seeing Bett charging it, Airi started to panic. Even though she is good at melee, Bett greatly surpasses her. Bett hit him with jabs and hooks without giving him time to react. Airi could block and dodge, but she took some severe blows. She started to lose ground, but oddly Bett was getting slower and slower. When that happens, Airi smiles.

"What have you done to me?" Bett asked.

Airi smiled at him but didn't answer his question. Finally, Airi regained control of the fight, and the match ended with victory of Airi because Bett could not move.

"Airi wins the match."  declared Leonidas firmly.

Airi came down from the arena and saw a doctor for his injuries. Bett was transported and treated by doctors.

"Second Fight: Soge vs. Zorr."  Leonidas declared.

Zorr is a tall man with a heavy sword on his back. (AN: look at Guts de Berserks, he looks like him.).  Soge is much thinner than Zorr. According to his sword at his hips, he must be a fast type.

"The match will start when I give you the start."

"Ready?"  The two nodded at his question.

"3"

"2"

"1"

"Go"

Zorr sprinted towards Soge with his two-handed sword in his right hand. Soge didn't move and got into position to counter any moves Zorr might make. Zorr gave him a horizontal sword blow. Soge ducked down and slashed Zorr's legs before stepping around Zorr.  Zorr ignored his injury and captured Soge in a hug before giving him a head butt. Soge passed out instantly.

Well, this fight is anticlimactic.

"Zorr wins this game."
