Chapter 74: Earth Elemental

Maryanne and Saibus have been walking through the corridors and rooms of the Undod ruin for about twenty minutes. They quickly arrived at the place protected by elementals, thanks to Maryanne's knowledge.

The elementals are two earth elementals. An earth elemental is a magically animated mud, clay, sand, and rock agglomerate. Seemingly slow and clumsy, it is nevertheless terribly dangerous and must be avoided at all costs.

When faced with an earth elemental, "solid as a rock" takes on its whole meaning. Its mass is such that it is almost impossible to topple, does not bleed, and is insensitive to pain, poison, and fire.

He can kill a man with alarming ease, crushing him with his fists or throwing huge stones at him. Its only weakness is a relative vulnerability to dimeritium dust, so it is advisable to carry appropriate bombs before facing this formidable opponent.

Saibus thought about what he knew about earth elementals before giving Maryanne the information.

"Now that we know only two of them protecting the gate, what do we do?" questioned Maryanne.

"I can think of several strategies we can do, but only one seems viable with the least risk, and it starts with the most important step, separating the elementals," states Saibus.

"Fine, but that step alone will be complicated," replies Maryanne.

Saibus nods his head before explaining his plan.

"The plan relies on my dimerium bombs. We isolate an elemental, and I drop a bomb on it, which makes it weaker and prevents it from using those magical attacks. All I have to do now is cut off his limbs while you send him rocks out of the area with the dimeritium."

Maryanne looks at Saibus strangely.

"Your plan is messed up, you know, the beginning is fine, but from the halfway point, it becomes hazardous," says Maryanne with a troubled voice.

"Yes, I know, but this is the easiest and safest. So don't worry about me. I'm keeping Talgar tears, Zerrikanian fire, and acid just in case," replied Saibus.

"Well, I hope you know what you're doing, but just know that if there's any risk at all, it's getting us out of here, even if you don't want to." Maryanne finished with a determined look.

"All right."

"Well, I'm going to try to attract an elemental. Wait for me in the front room," says Saibus.

Maryanne complies and goes to the previous room, where she prepares to intervene and help Saibus.

Saibus, as for him, throws a spell of dissimulation on himself before approaching discreetly without making the slightest noise. He gets closer until he is about twenty meters away from the elementals. He then uses his magic to cast the Axii sign on the elemental most intimate to him. The disturbed elemental resists the sign's hold. He struggles, which intrigues the other elemental, but he only looks at him because he is not programmed to move and think.

Seeing that the elemental was resisting, Saibus amplified his sign by injecting more chaos energy into his Axii. The sign breaks the elemental's mental defense, causing it to stop. Keeping the sign channeled, Saibus had a crazy idea, but one that c, could allow him to trounce the two elementals.

Controlling the elemental, Saibus uses it to stand behind him and drive his fist into the other elemental's chest to destroy its heart. But instead, the basic goes his stone fist into his twin's heartbreaking heart, which creates an explosion of magic, releasing the elemental of the Axii sign.

The elemental who no longer has a heart falls to dust. The other elemental now sees Saibus in the distance and rushes toward him. Saibus turns and runs towards Maryanne's position.

BAM BAM' The elemental creates waves of rocks towards Saibus that he dodges without difficulty. Saibus takes advantage of this race to throw fireballs at the elementary, slows down the elemental, and destroys the earth magic he throws at it.

After a chase punctuated by earth and fire magic, Saibus passes Maryanne.

"Akhan Daal," Maryanne utters an incantation that creates an explosion that repels and staggers the elemental.

Saibus takes advantage of the elemental destabilization to take out a dimeritium bomb and throw it at him. The bomb flies in the air in an arc to finish its flight in the head of the elemental. The bomb explodes on contact releasing a cloud of green dust that flies in a large area. The elemental slows down under the effect of the dimeritium. Maryanne moved behind Saibus to support him from afar with her mixed magic, as it was warned.

The elemental stabilizes and taps his foot on the ground causing a series of earth spikes between him and Saibus. The latter dodges by rolling to the right. Standing up, Saibus sees a rock explode three meters away from him.

"Thank you," thanking Maryanne for the support. He propels himself forward with his sword pointed at the elemental. The elemental breaks an earth spike and throws it towards Saibus' head. Saibus casts a small spell that covers his blade with a layer of wind. Then, he makes a vertical cut that splits the spike in two and sends an edge of wind flying toward the elemental. But this blade dissipates before it makes contact with the elemental because of the dimeritium in the area around the elemental.

The elemental lets out a roar and begins a charge. It smashes everything in its path, which isn't much except rocks. The two quickly get within range, and the elemental takes the initiative. He throws his fist in the direction of Saibus' face. Saibus moves to the left and scratches the elemental's arm as he moves up toward his torso.

Sparks fly as the sword scratches the elemental's torso. The elemental brings his arm back and punches Saibus. The latter bends his knees and bends down. The elemental's fist hits behind Saibus and makes a small crater. Saibus takes the opportunity to slide under the elemental and slashes his legs. The cuts are a little deeper than on the elemental's torso but are still superficial wounds.

The elemental grunts and slowly turns to face Saibus, giving him time to move away from him and pull out a vial of acid. The elemental in front of Saibus hits the floor, causing a tremor throughout the room. The earthquake does not affect Saibus, who remains on his feet. The elemental throws himself forward with his fist. Saibus throws the vial of acid at his chest.

CRACK' the glass vial shatters as it hits the elemental's stone skin. The green liquid flows down the elemental's torso.

The creature lets out an angry roar as its life-sustaining heart is now visible and unprotected.

What a powerful acid. I didn't expect it almost instantly to corrode the elemental's defense.' thinks Saibus with shock at the power of the acid.

'Maryanne, his heart is visible! I'm going to turn it towards you and throw the biggest rocks you can at it to try to break its heart!" Saibus shouts to Maryanne what he plans to do and orders Maryanne.

Saibus then runs to the right of the elemental in an arc before running again, this time in a straight line.

The elemental tries to grab Saibus as he spins around, but Saibus dodges by jumping forward. Now in front of Maryanne and Saibus' back as she moves away from him.

He sees Maryanne throwing a rock of several tens of kilos at his body. The elemental takes momentum and strikes a powerful punch on the rock, exploding in several pieces and dust. A cloud of dust rises, leaving only a part of the elemental body visible.

CRACH

A loud cracking sound resounds in the room. Maryanne sees cracks appear on the visible parts of the elemental. The cracks grow, making the elementals collapse into pieces of rock on the floor.

The dust then rises to leave Maryanne to see Saibus above the pile of elementals.

"Well, we succeeded, but your last action was risky, Saibus. Especially since you didn't warn me, I wouldn't have been able to act if you had missed your stabbing strike," says Maryanne reproachfully.

"I know, but I saw an opportunity and took it. Don't worry. I had activated a Gwen just in case I had to defend myself." Saibus reassured his sister-in-arms.

"Well, the way is clear. Let's explore the ruins."

"There is still one elemental left, Saibus.

"No, to separate them, I used Axii amplified, taking control of the elemental for a moment. Then, I used it to destroy the other elemental's heart without it being able to react."

Stunned by Saibus' explanation, Maryanne is intrigued by the sign's potential.

"I didn't know you could use this sign to do that." Said Maryanne.

"Neither did I, but when you think you can do it on humans or certain monsters, why not on elementals." finished Saibus with a shrug.
