「We’ve already reached an understanding with the Mercenary Association. Or rather, they’ve already transferred all rights to this Fortress Area to Metal Iris.」
「Huh?」
「When we tried to hand this Fortress Area over to the Mercenary Association, they actually rejected it and essentially threw it back to us. That’s not our fault, right?」
What Kou said was the truth.
Actually, the Association’s true target might have been the Silhouette Base, but Kou hasn’t told the two about it yet.
「Just what were they thinking? They really handed over a Fortress Area with a large industrial block to an Underground Force just like that?」
「Err, that’s a bit wrong, actually. They handed us control of this Fortress Area, and we just added the large-scale industrial complex afterward.」
「Huh?!」
Fortress Areas were legacies left by the Planetary Pioneering era more than 20,000 years in the past.
Until now, there were no examples of them having been remodeled or equipped with additional facilities.
「Matt, can I just go back to Boss? I feel like staying here is gonna be really dangerous.」
「He’s gonna get angry at you for sure. Though I feel like coming back too.」
「You guys really don’t need to worry too much. Asia will give you her support as well.」
「That’s what we’re worried about!」
There was no precedent for establishing a transferee company with Asia’s full support.
Of course, the companies would provide their services to her and protect her in return, but knowing that made Jialing and Matt realize just how heavy a responsibility they would have to shoulder.
「We’re going to establish two new companies. One company will exclusively manufacture things that I personally request, and one company will develop and manufacture products that will be sold on the market. We’re gonna have them undertake consignment production for a while though.」
「Produce what? Drills and half-track vehicles?」
「No!」
The image of Kou designing drills and half-tracks seems to have been firmly established in his two friend’s minds.
「Well, I’m a C-Class Development Engineer, so I’ll handle manufacturing the products you’ll request. I’ll leave the product development to Jialing.」
「You always take the easier way out, Matty……」
「I guess that would be for the best. Alright. I’ll show you guys the weapons I’m gonna request you to mass-produce. I’ll show Matt the Silhouette he’ll be handling the production of first.」
「This will be the first time we’ll get to see a Silhouette you developed, Kou!」
「I’m looking forward to it.」
They moved to the underground hangar.
There, four-legged Silhouettes were in the middle of being maintained by Therianthropes.
「There are three types of this quadrupedal Silhouette, and two types, in particular, are in high demand right now. I’ll leave manufacturing those to Matt.」
「Now just hold on one moment?! I’ve never heard of a Silhouette with four legs though!」
「That’s because these are exclusively just for Therianthropes.」
「Wait! You just dropped another bomb on us like it’s nothing!」
Jialing was also a proper Development Engineer. She was fully aware of the fact that Therianthropes were unable to pilot Silhouettes. It can be said to be one of their greatest sources of anguish and regret.
But what if they were given the ability to pilot Silhouettes? Therianthropes the world over would go absolutely nuts and eventually flood the gates due to such an opportunity.
「I don’t really mind if you improve them even further, Matt.」
「Can you please not carry on like it’s nothing? This is way, waaay more major than simply managing a new transferee company you know?!」
Kou tilted his head and called over a nearby fox-eared Therianthrope. The latter headed over at once and exchanged whispers with Kou.
「That’s how it’s gonna go. This is Matty. He’s going to handle mass-producing the Quattro Silhouettes for you guys.」
「Ah, the number of our gods will increase again……」
The fox-eared young man muttered in awe.
「Haha, oh c’mon. You’re exaggerating again.」
Kou has completely turned into an object of worship for the Therianthropes lately, but he simply thought that was their own way of showing respect.
He simply didn’t take their words of adoration and worship seriously.
「No, I’m sure he’s dead serious. That’s just how utterly amazing this is!」
Matty was finally starting to break down.
「I’m fine with managing the transferee company like usual. Really, I’m fine with just that.」
Matt, who always chose the easy way out, was suddenly thrust into a role with great responsibilities.
「I think you’re gonna get really busy just keeping up with the demand for this Silhouette model though.」
「You think?! I don’t even believe the demand for this thing will ever get satisfied!」
「Next, I’ll show Jialing the machines she’ll be responsible for.」
「Fufu. I’m already given this much responsibility. I’m sure Jialing’s will be even more amazing……」
「Hey! Quit saying that, will you? I’m getting goosebumps here.」
「There probably won’t be anything more major than the Quattro.」
「That’s major enough!」
The hangar was divided into several layers.
Kou explained the details of the contents of each.
「Hee. Familiar-use multi-role fighters, tanks, armored combat vehicles, and transport helicopters huh.」
「Normal, right?」
「Yeah. I admit that, at least.」
Jialing was convinced while Matt pouted in frustration. Obviously, unlike the Quattro, everything shown so far was just ordinary weapons.
「What was the last thing you showed us though? A heavy attack aircraft? It was basically a flying tank.」
「I think its similar to the Tachycineta that was made by Boss.」
「But the Tachycineta can’t be loaded with two types of Silhouettes simultaneously, right?」
「Even though they can be loaded with two types of Silhouettes, one just basically serves the same function as the aircraft’s cockpit anyway.」
「So, why did you go to the trouble of including a Silhouette that only serves as a substitute cockpit in the design of an aerial mobile combat machine……?」
「It’s exactly because it fights in the air. If the pilot ejects when the aircraft gets shot down, they wouldn’t be able to fight back anymore if I didn’t do that.」
「That’s overdoing it.」
Jialing got exasperated after hearing one of the Thunderstorm’s defining features.
It only turned this way after Kou improved on the design for Blue’s sake.
「I think they wouldn’t sell even if they did get mass-produced. Their fuel source is basically the Silhouette, so they’re really expensive.」
「What do you mean by that?」
「The Silhouette is equipped with a compact metallic hydrogen generation reactor.」
「I’ll say it again. That’s just overdoing it. Don’t you think you’re being a bit too overprotective of the pilots?」
「Didn’t the reconnaissance aircraft earlier also come equipped with electromagnetic armor?」
「The others are equipped with storage-type metallic hydrogen power packs. After all, they go out on battlefields where lots of railguns and anti-aircraft missiles would come at them, so I wouldn’t have them fly with half-baked defensive measures.」
「I kinda get that. That’s the reason why air power disappeared from this world after all.」
Jialing muttered while looking at the aircraft that were neatly lined up on the hangar.
「Though not as much as Matt, it looks like I’m going to be really busy too.」
「You just had to remind me.」
「Do your best with meeting those orders, Matt.」
「Uuu……」
When they got back to the combat command center, the rest comforted the two that were subjected to Kou’s unreasonableness.
Only Kou himself couldn’t understand why they were acting that way.
