On 21st Century Earth, the engagement distance of tank battles was generally 2 to 3 kilometers. The greater the distance, the more difficult it was to pierce enemy armor.
Since railguns and light-gas cannons have been put into practical use on Planet Asia, that effective range had been nearly doubled. There were many among the transferees who felt it was still unexpectedly short, but one also had to take into account that gravity on Planet Asia was slightly stronger compared to Earth.
Other long-range weapons such as missiles had a minimum range of about 5 to 10 kilometers. The maximum effective range was 20 kilometers.
The railgun mounted on the super-heavy tank was theorized to have a maximum range of 200 kilometers that shells could reach in about 5 minutes, similar to a Silhouette-use sniper cannon, even though it fired larger shells. The terminal velocity of the railgun shell was enough to maintain speeds of Mach 5 or higher.
However, it was next to impossible for an enemy located 200 kilometers away to indefinitely remain stationary. Hence, the practical effective range was actually tens of kilometers out.
The Metal Iris and Storm Hound members used the terrain to escape from the firing line.
The approaching Keres were immediately crushed with concentrated barrages.
The Keres could be said to be anti-Silhouette weapons. However, they did relatively poorly against tanks. In particular, Ant Worker-types weren’t equipped with a Whis power unit, so they were especially susceptible to tank fire. Conventional weapons were more than enough to be effective.
Kou also started fighting with his newly improved Unit 5.
He was conducting support fire from a distance. His favorite great sword was still carried on his Silhouette’s back.
Unit 5 held its new rifle with both hands as it fired away.
Shooting while moving was a basic skill in firefights. Getting pinned down could equate to one’s death.
AK2’s power was considerable. It wasn’t suitable for rapid-fire because of the high recoil, but it was more than enough for Kou. He wasn’t fighting alone after all.
It would be fine if they covered each other.
「Kou, match your targets with our allies!」
「Gotcha!」
Jenny obediently heeded Jenny’s advice.
He shot his AK2 at the same targets his allies were shooting at. It was actually capable of rapid-fire, but due to the recoil and the relatively low number of bullets in its magazine, that wasn’t exactly advisable.
He destroyed an Ant Worker with a single shot.
「What the heck has Kou-kun gotten himself equipped with……? Why is that Silhouette rifle as destructive as a tank’s main gun?」
「That person’s weird after all.」
Kou shot down Murders one after another with his Silhouette’s new rifle.
Jenny and Blue watched the scene with amazement.
The customized large-caliber battle rifle was completely modified for Kou and Unit 5’s exclusive use and slapped with a Wildcat cartridge. Regular Bears wouldn’t be able to make full use of it, if at all.
Unit 5’s overall appearance was also quite different from what they knew.
On the other hand, Kou was getting increasingly agitated.

He wanted to cut them down so bad.
Kou was trying his best to learn long-range combat while suppressing his urge to just run up and hack away at the enemies.
「We’ll be reaching the enemy super-heavy tank soon. Let’s close the distance all at once!」
At Rick’s command, his troops moved like a single huge creature.
A combat engineering team moved ahead to pave a path for the hangar carriers and the supply unit.
「Rick, what’s our strategy for taking that monster tank on?」
「Let’s follow the words of one of our great predecessors. Throw them into confusion! Restrain them! Pin the enemies down!」
Rick related to Jenny the words of a well-known commander of armored troop operations who was once known as the Desert Fox. [1]
「Pin the enemy down huh.」
「It would be enough to restrain the enemy’s movements and create an advantageous situation for our troops. The enemy has superior firepower and overwhelming defense. So our greatest advantage is our mobility.」
The tank unit led by Rick began engaging the super-heavy tank in earnest.
They chose terrain that can shield them as much as possible from enemy fire and quickly advanced toward the enemy’s position.
The enemy super-heavy tank was now clearly in sight.
Aside from the railgun, it also sported a heavy Gatling gun as a secondary weapon that also doubled as an interceptor. It wasn’t a multi-turret tank.
It sported four tracks covered by tough armor skirts.
It certainly didn’t seem to be that mobile. However, its armor was obviously quite thick.
「The weakness of tanks is close combat. So I guess we’ll have to get up close and personal. Luckily, our members also brought anti-tank weapons with them.」
「Make sure to be careful out there, Jenny.」
「I know!」
The armored vehicles following behind were also going to close in as much as they possibly could. They were composed of supply vehicles and combat engineering vehicles.
Since they weren’t expecting any reinforcements, their current numbers were all they had to work with while the number of enemies was unknown.
Hence, it was essential to make an accurate and strict judgment regarding the culminating point of the offensive. In order to facilitate that, a rapid supply system needed to be established.
The enemy defense forces were waiting for them in a Herringbone formation, which was a V-shaped defensive formation.
Rick’s troops, on the other hand, advanced in a wedge formation. It was an offensive armored tactic famously known as Panzerkeil.
Even if the formation somehow got deformed, tall Silhouettes and armed armored vehicles were ready to pick up the slack.
