Chapter 15: $chemes from Far AwaY.
In a golden city far away from Jack, a handsome man wearing a stark white mask stood observing a Military parade as it marched orderly beneath him.
One day it will all be mine. He mused to himself, confident in his abilities.
An expected knock at the door drew his attention from the splendor and extravagance below, sweeping his gaze over the ornate furniture, the man leisurely took a seat in a cushioned chair before placing his mask properly on his face and pouring himself a glass of wine. After a couple of sips, he pressed a button on his gilded gauntlet, allowing his visitors to enter.
“White Knight.” a man wearing a Black mask said, his voice modulated as he offered his greetings with a slight bow.
“Black King, Gold Queen, Red Rook.” The White Knight said, addressing the individuals gathered before him who each wore a similar, yet different colored mask that each had a chess piece stenciled on them as a reflection of their titles. As the group took seats from across one another, the White mask uncrossed his legs and leaned forward. “To what do I owe the pleasure of this impromptu meeting?”
“Purple Pawn has notified us that you wish to remove a few pieces off the board?” The Black King said, cocking his head to the side as he eyed the man known as “White Knight” with his fingers laced.
The dapperly dressed man let out a slight chortle.
“I wasn’t aware I needed High Table permission to remove pieces that are under my purview.” The White Knight replied, drawing a grunt from Red Rook and a “tsk” from the woman wearing an expensive form-fitting dress and matching gold mask.
“It does when your actions can have drastic political drawbacks that affect business.” Gold Queen chimed in, walking over and elegantly snatching the wine glass out of the White Knight’s hand and taking a sip.
“If you were anyone else, I’d have you killed on the spot.” White Knight said softly, drawing another grunt from Red Rook. A warning to reel it in.
The Gold Queen scoffed, turning to face the sitting man with her eyes buzzing with electricity. “Please, I’m more than confident I could take you in a scuffle.”
“Is that with your lap dog here or?”
“Let's stay on topic.” Red Rook interjected, remaining calm despite being called a lapdog as he beckoned for the Gold Queen to take a seat.
Black King cleared his throat before tossing a familiar file on the immaculate white table between them. “We’ve reviewed your plan and despite it being unapproved, it is sound. We understand eliminating Lieutenant Belfusa and her Attendant, but we wanted to hear from you directly your justification for killing Captain Skirita. We've poured a lot of resources to cultivate his potential as a candidate and have worked digitately to elevate him to his position. It seems like a waste.”
The White Knight made a thin smile, conjuring another wine glass from seemingly nowhere and pouring himself another cup of the smooth red liquid.
"It's simple really. They’d serve us better dead than alive. Imagine it, the first male in imperial history to be given his own command of a Landship. Only to be killed by a bomb placed by the sadistic! traditionalist saboteurs. His death would sow chaos between every political party, widening the divide and whipping them into a fury. Not to mention with the death of Blood Silver, a rising star for the progressives, It would make headlines across the nation." The White Knight stood up, adding emphasis to his speech. “There would be untold discourse and opportunity.”
"Civil War isn't good for business Knight." The Gold Queen spat, clutching the wine glass she stole tightly. "Especially when it's in my own fucking backyard."
"Only if you're on the wrong side." The White Knight replied, casually taking another sip of his wine. "Think of it as a way of eliminating competitive competition. Besides we've all known that this was the end game. I'm just speeding things along to their natural conclusion. I've already taken the liberty of stationing multiple… clean-up crews to eliminate the other pieces we propped up once Captain Skirita and Lieutenant Belfusa meet their… ill-timed and unfortunate demises."
"Can you call off the attack? Give us more time to prepare? We could solidify our guild halls for the coming storm." The Red Rook asked, surprisingly a hint of worry in his gruff voice for once.
"Afraid not. The bombs have already been placed and they've been out to land for the last day and a half. Once it reaches the third day, the charges will activate, disrupting multiple systems on the ship along with activating the lure, sealing their fates."
"And you couldn't notify us ahead of time?"
"Sadly no,” The White Knight replied before settling back down on the expensive velvet furniture. “The Matriarch has been running me ragged lately, gala after gala. She's been obsessed with selling me off to some whore to consolidate Imperial power. By the time I learned of the Captain’s duty station and the details of his voyage, it was late into the night. I barely had time to assign the task, much less notify the High Table."
A silence settled in the room for several seconds before it was punctuated by the Black King finally speaking up.
"Gold Queen, prepare to move operations-"

The Gold Queen spun, flinging red liquid across the expensive furniture. "This is absurd! We're not ready!"
"-And prepare to shift to Theocracy Territory. Thanks to the White Knights stunt, We're accelerating to phase two. Rook, prepare some disposable pawns. We're going to coordinate with Green Bishop to orchestrate an ambush. Gather as many imperial uniforms as you can."
White Knight eyed the stains on the furniture before shifting his gaze at the Gold Queen.
This dog
"I'll see what I can do." Red Rook replied, his eyes lighting up behind his mask with a red glow that made robotic noises.
"We aren't… we aren’t ready." Gold Queen reiterated softly, her voice wavering slightly as cracks began to appear in the wine glass she held.
The White Knight rolled his eyes behind his mask. The woman had gotten too used to a certain lifestyle it seemed, and was now showing reluctance to what needed to be done. Pfft, women. So weak.
“And what of the Corporate Alliance?” White Knight asked, taking a verbal jab at the Black King. "I heard there was a slight incident the other day that took out the plaza in Eden City.”
“It’s being looked into.” Black King replied, as if they both didn’t already know the exact circumstances behind the disturbance. After all, It was how the White Knight managed to convince the Black King to support his abrupt assassination plan and how he managed to move so many pieces so quickly. The white mask didn’t exactly know what the Black King had in mind for the sarcophagus he had given him, but he wagered a guess that whatever the Black King had done with the corpse inside, it had to do with the recent destruction of Cordell Engineering’s prized plaza.
After all, everyone here knew he worked hand in hand with Cordell Engineering. And whatever happened there had kept the man out of reach, and out of contact for the last several days. The White Knight wouldn’t press however, it was better to keep his cards close to his chest and pretend to know more than he did. At least until he learned more.
“Well now, If there’s nothing left to discuss I do have other things to attend to.” The White Knight said, standing up and gesturing towards the doorway. “The Matriarch is expecting me to meet the whore of the Valentius family and attend yet another Imperial meeting as if my presence was really required.”
“Sit down, Knight.” The modulated voice of the Black King broke for a moment, allowing a sliver of the man’s rage to seep through and making the hairs on the White Knight’s skin stand on end. “Gold Queen, Red Rook, please allow The White Knight and I some privacy while we discuss his recent... bashfulness In private.”
The man didn’t have to ask twice. In a blink of an eye, the two masked individuals were gone, leaving only the White Knight and the Black King alone in a room that suddenly seemed too small.
“Know your place.” The Black King growled. It was only three words, yet the temperature of the room appeared to drop as an overwhelming pressure threatened to buckle the White Knight. It took every ounce of willpower and internal Mana the man had not to let out a pitiful sputter as he found himself struggling to breath. Suddenly the intense pressure vanished, along with the Black King, leaving the white-dressed man alone in the room struggling to breath.
Damn plebian. The White Knight swore internally, before taking off his mask and composing himself just in time to greet the green-haired butler that arrived at his door way.
"Mi'lord, forgive the intrusion, however the Matriarch requests your presence at the ceremonial dinner for the Generals."
The handsome man looked up, fixing his white hair. "Tell her I'll be there shortly. Just freshening up for the Lady of the Valentius family."
The Butler bowed, "As you wish, Prince Roland."
A/N some art for the room
