Chapter 25 LN: [ANGEL] and the Other Soul

Now that the two were alone Sahaqiel pranced around, humming some kind of hymn as she dragged her oversized toga across the cavern floor.

"Hey. How long do you think until my body recovers?" Jack asked, looking for a timeline as he sorted through herbs and fruits using a book from the bag to find which ones were edible.

"Days. Maybe a week at most, but if you just want access to your system I can pull it up for you."

Jack stopped what he was doing.

"Then-"

"But I wouldn't recommend it." Sahaqiel paused her dancing and shuffled over to the teen before plopping down in front of him. "The system shuts down as a temporary stop measure when the host gets overburdened. Forcing it on would probably send you into a coma, so I wouldn't recommend it unless you want to take a semi permanent dirt nap. Right now you need to rest and to eat more apples."

Jack sighed at the news. It wasn't what he wanted to hear. "Is that why you're so tiny now?"

"I'm not tiny!" Sahaqiel yelled, standing up and bonking Jack on his head. "But yes! If you must know, I have a reduced size because you! Nearly dying activated the failsafe I put up which burned my soul energy turning me into…. This!"

Sahaqiel look down her toga and frowned. "I'm like a prepubescent child now!"

"Sorry, I didn't know that would happen I just-"

"Oh forget about it. I'm a part of you, remember? I know why you did what you did, I was there." Sahaqiel wobbled back and forth. "Just try not to do that again anytime soon, otherwise it really will be game over, and not just for me but for you as well."

Jack winced at the thought before reaching down to eat one of the assorted fruits below him.

"Ooooh. A Zimaya fruit." Sahaqiel pointed at a dark green bulbous thing that looked completely unappetizing.

"This looks completely inedible."

"It isn't, I swear! Eat it!" Sahaqiel grabbed Jack by his shoulders and began rocking the teen. "Please!"

"Alright! Alright chill!"

Looks like her boobs weren't the only thing to shrink Jack as he picked up the green fruit and sunk his fingers into it.

"Hey! I heard that!" Sahaqiel frowned. "Besides, I should return to normal after a while… unless you prefer me this way?"

Sahaqiel looked coily at Jack and struck a pose but the teen only took on a look of disgust.

"Oh come on! Nothing?!"

"Sorry, Oppais are truth. Plus I'm not into little girls." Jack's gaze shifted away as the Angel began fuming.

"I'm not a little girl! I'm literally thousands of years old! I'm still sexy right? Right?!"

The little Angel began shaking Jack violently by his shoulders, trying to coax an answer out of the teen.

"No."

"Wha?"

"You look like the same age as my sister. I'll pass, thanks." Jack went back to sorting, ignoring Sahaqiel's stunned look of shock that quickly turned to her sulking in the corner.

Changing the topic Jack decided to ask why the angel had disappeared for several days drawing an Ah from the girl as if she remembered something.

"Oh well you see." Sahaqiel took on an odd look before her gaze began rapidly wandering. "How do I say this gently? Umm, well you're kinda dying."

Jack stopped peeling the hard shell of the Zimaya fruit.

"What?"

"Our fusion is causing instabilities in your soul and your body is rejecting everything that that wasn't originally a part of you including myself and -"

Jack put a hand up, cutting the angel off as he tried to process the bombshell that was being dropped on him unexpectedly.

"Wait just. Wait. Ok." Jack pinched his nose before looking back at the Angel. "How long do I have?"

"Weeks? Months? It was years when I was stabilizing everything but then using Soul Ignition cut that significantly."

"Why didn't you tell me about this sooner?!"

"I didn’t know! I only found the cracks when we boarded the landship but by then she was waking up and causing so many holes and broken arrays it took all of my attention to make sure you didn't immediately implode!"

Jack turned away, furiously peeling the bulbous fruit and accidentally snapping it in half. After some time of sitting there and processing the news Jack hung his head low.

"Unexpected consequences huh." Jack scoffed, remembering his discussion with the Angel when they first met. "Well...I can't say you didn't warn me."

He sighed, eyeing the scars running down his arms and legs. "What's that saying? Live fast, die young? Well, at least with this Jill gets benefits and a better future than that Corpo hellscape."

"Well you aren't dead yet." Sahaqiel crawled over and tried to chomp down on the slimy fruit Jack held out to her, but without a system the Consume skill failed as the girl's mouth merely faded through the green fruit. "Ugh can you eat it for me?"

He raised an eyebrow in response before looking at the peeled Zimaya.

"Please?"

Jack rolled his eyes and took a singular bite before immediately spitting the green fruit out. "What the hell?! This is disgusting!"

"NO!" Sahaqiel shrieked, "Don't spit it out! I like Zimiyas!"

"What kind of fruit is spicy?!" Jack spat, hurling the green bulb away where it bounced off the cave wall before frantically scraping at his tongue with his free hand as tears welled up in his eyes.

"The best kind! Now eat or I'm not telling you how to fix your soul core and save your life!"

"There's a way to fix me?! Why didn’t you lead with that instead of telling me I was dying!” Jack yelled, annoyed at the angel and grabbing her by her face.

“Hey! Cut that out!”

“Not until you tell me how to fix my core!” Jack held the little girl in place as she tried to reach out and swing at him.

“GAAH! CURSE MY TINY ARMS!” Sahaqiel screamed before folding her little appendages and pouting. “Fine! Once you recover and get your system back we just need to force a partial evolution, and it Should help to alleviate the stress on your core.”

“Should? There's no guarantee?"

"Hey I'm winging this as we go ok? This is my first time soul merging or forming a contract with anyone so I'm working on thousands of years old memories that I never paid attention to. But what I KNOW is that evolving attunes the body and can repair and mend damages to the soul."

"That's it? That’s all I have to do?” Jack replied skeptically. That sounds too simple?

“It's not. If you don’t immediately turn into a bubbling pile of soup or explode, your body’s morphology will shift. Melding all three of our cores closer together and changing you. Oh and it will hurt the entire time you’re doing it. Like reaaaaally hurt.”

“Well I have pain tolerance level two now, how bad can it be?” Jack chuckled and breathed a sigh of relief. Knowing there was a way forward helped to ease the anxiety and stress that was weighing down on him like an anvil. “By the way, is there a way to separate our thoughts so you aren’t reading my mind? I do like privacy, you know.”

“What?” Sahaqiel then disappeared before reappearing behind Jack and draping herself over him as she purred in his ear. ”You have something to hide?”

“Please note. That this is a lot less sexy and waaaaay more creepy with you being a loli now.”

Sahaqiel let out a loud whine before disappearing again. [JUST FOCUS ON GETTING BETTER]

Jack shook his head with a smile before realizing the tinyfied angel had said three and mentioned a she previously when talking about their cores.

[Oh yea about that, fragments of what remained of my original host was transferred in the process of us melding together.]

"Are you telling me there's ANOTHER soul inside of me?"

[No, I'm telling you the husk of what she was is. The core responds heavily to emotional stimuli and certain reactions, but there's no person there Just… an emotional comatose vegetable? Or shards of what remains of her anyway.] Sahaqiel explained sadly.

"And let me guess the system registers her as another person."

[Correct. There's enough here to pose a problem with our merger, but no consciousness to speak of to interfere and take over your body.]

"Is it possible to bring her back?" Jack asked out of curiosity.

[I'll be honest, I don't know. The fragments were supposed to fade away during our fusion but they hung on, coalescing into a small core and giving you access to some of her abilities. Maybe, IF you get strong enough there might be a way to use her core. But I don’t feel comfortable desecrating what remains of her.]

Suddenly smoke began to billow off his body, interrupting his conversation with a sizzling sound. Jack gazed down in alarm, but it was just his body healing. A large patch of burn scars fizzled away, only to be replaced with the soft skin he recognized. Jack watched in fascination, wondering why it didn't heal the scars on his arms from before the burn injuries.

"Looks like you're healing already." The familiar voice of Lieutenant Belfusa said, collecting Jack's attention as she stepped into the cave carrying a small white creature by its oversized ears.

"You ever skinned an animal before?" The woman asked, plopping the white horned creature beside Jack.

"Err no?" Jack replied, touching the soft smooth fur of the creature's still warm, yet lifeless body. “I’ve never been outside the city, most of the food I eat is processed.”

Eleanor planted a knife next to Jack's foot.

"Well, it's about time you learned how to be an Imperial."
