Chapter 1385: Angel of Misery (Part 1)

Teleportation used up a large number of magic nuclei. The time was short. Once Saleen returned to the temple, he made arrangements for Sika and the children to settle down. Then he brought back the Winged Skull and the two of them returned to interdimensional space.

Metatrin City was being managed by Sika, and Saleen was totally comfortable with this. He also summoned Daniel back to assist Sika. This death mage was not so enthusiastic about this assignment and regretted having to waste time on it. But if his abilities had been lacking in any way, Saleen would not have given him the job.

He was born a minor lord and had received a good education. This was the asset with which he had established his position with Saleen.

If he wanted to get something out of this relationship, he would have to pay the price. Daniel regretted that he had spent so much time thinking of ways to organize his forces. Many aristocrats in the city hoped he was still alive. Once he found out that Saleen had advanced to level-11, Daniel understood he had been mistaken about something.

The aristocrats no longer ruled this world; the mages did.

Saleen made the appropriate arrangements for Metatrin City and had not even seen the female Duke Renee before returning to the interdimensional space. Because he brought along the Winged Skull, Saleen did not need to use his death troops. The Winged Skull’s superior combat abilities offered more than enough protection.

Its body should have evolved long ago. But Saleen had purposefully not evolved this weapon. In fact, he had always restricted him.

Nailisi was on her way back after being summoned. Saleen had been delayed in the interdimensional space for less than a month, and the Holy See’s troops had not arrived yet in Nature City. Fycro had only accumulated enough energy to advance after killing two of the Lord of Glory’s oracles. This time, the Holy See’s attack was not aided by the two oracles and Saleen wasted no time worrying about them.

Saleen allowed the Winged Skull to complete its advancement quickly in the interdimensional space. At level-11, it would no longer face too many dangers. For Saleen’s future matters, those whose grades were too low could not be used and he would have to handle them personally.

While the Winged Skull was advancing, Nailisi arrived at the interdimensional space, hoping to advance here. Saleen arranged for her to take away the disciples and return them to Nature City. Only Nailisi had the ability to handle the 1,600,000 disciples.

In the blink of an eye, another month passed during which the Winged Skull and Nailisi completed their advancement. Rafel had also absorbed the power of the divine fire, completely eradicating her body of all its wounds.

Saleen brought Rafel and the Winged Skull, along with the Violet Angel, and the four of them moved to the border of the interdimensional space.

There was a volcano there, which was also where Fycro had entered. Saleen had already dispatched a large number of deadly creatures to check out the place, but none were able to return.

The interdimensional space was evolving. Though the volcano was still erupting, it no longer posed the same danger as earlier on.

When it first erupted, it swept away most of the interdimensional space.

Now, Saleen’s preparatory time was very long, one month. He had been questioning the disciples who had betrayed Fycro about their origins at this time.

Saleen knew, in general, how these people had arrived. At the border of the volcano was a place that was connected to the Myers Continent. It was an extremely stable spatial pathway that also happened to be quite wide.

The pathway had been created by Fycro’s divine spell and was not a natural object. At the other end of the spatial pathway lay the Abyss of Light, located within the Chaotic Swamp.

In the beginning, Saleen had even walked over to this abyss but had not detected any connection between the planes. Even though Fycro had placed this object in plain sight, it attracted little attention.

Saleen did not realize that Fycro was creating a lair for the sake of opposing the Holy See. He had not thought that the purpose of this abyss was to span across different planes.

Battles between the gods were often ignited by the betrayals of a traitor. If he could tempt the subordinate of an opposing god to turn traitor and get a safe coordinate point within its divine kingdom, the Lord of Glory would create an Abyss of Light to invade the divine kingdom. After a near-eternal pathway opened, the Lord of Glory’s angel troops would begin their massacre incessantly and unsparingly.

Saleen had moved too many people into the interdimensional space. For someone like Fycro, it would not be hard to infiltrate this place once he detected the presence of others. Because he was afraid of being discovered by the mages, Fycro had opened a spatial pathway at the border of the volcano. Not much attention would be placed on such a location, hence the mages had only discovered his entrance after millions of his troops had entered. By this time, Fycro could already use godly power to temporarily disrupt the coordinates of the interdimensional space. Hence, his back-up troops would not be able to arrive there.

Saleen brought three subordinates to the border of the volcano. The earth was pitch black and twisted up and down, like a solidified ocean.

This volcano had once been where the fire element created chaos in the interdimensional space. Saleen looked ahead and took off. Arriving at the crater of the volcano, he looked down and saw an intense aura inside.

Although fire-elemental spirits had been born, they had all been consumed by Fycro: For him, becoming a god came with a cost. Without an immense amount of energy for wanton use, Fycro could not possibly have advanced so swiftly.

Saleen leaped into the volcano crater and expanded his Water Shield over his body. The temperature was exceptionally high. Saleen did not see any chaotic vibrations with his Elemental Eye. This volcano would not erupt for at least a few months.

The gases below made breathing difficult. Saleen looked around him. Near the point of the eruption were crystals left behind by a fire-elemental spirit. They were of a higher grade than the ones left behind by the great fire snake.

Saleen released his lightning warriors to gather them.

They could not be wasted. To operate, all his equipment relied on huge amounts of energy. The Floating City was certainly powerful but when used in battle, the number of magic nuclei and crystals it burned up really caused one’s heart to ache.

Fortunately, the ancients’ magic power furnace could contain anything. Even if it was a lower grade magic nucleus, it could still be refined into pure energy.

Saleen returned to the ground’s surface and began looking around the border of the volcano. Fycro had not concealed any clues; very quickly Saleen arrived at a fault in the rocks. When looking across this at ground level, there was nothing in front at all; however, when looking down from a high altitude, steps at the crack in the earth that led deep underground were visible.

The width of these steps reached about 500 meters and could accommodate a thousand people moving forward. The steps were pitch black. The smoke below was thick, yet the temperature was not as high as in the volcano crater.

“Let’s go.” Saleen pointed at the huge steps.

“Master.” Rafel took a step forward and allowed Saleen to walk behind her.

Saleen smiled. It seemed that Rafel had finally put aside her matters of the heart for the time being and no longer talked about leaving. With Rafel taking the lead, the Violet Angel and Winged Skull were also relaxed. They stood on each side of Saleen and followed the huge steps to walk underground.

Saleen had added a Water Shield to each person to support them. Rafel simply smiled at such magic spells.

To her, a level-10 Water Shield was fragile. This was already a very high evaluation. A level-10 skill, in the eyes of a person with level-13 strength, would typically only be able to receive a poor evaluation.

The Winged Skull released two balls of jade-green flames to shine above everybody’s head. Once they were released, the nearby soot was forced aside by the Power of the Dead. Their line of sight became much clearer.

The steps were wide but not very steep. It was possible to ride a horse and gallop down them. t.

Rafel picked up speed and sprinted toward the bottom of the steps. Saleen and the others naturally kept up with her. Gradually, only the jade-green flames released by the Winged Skull were illuminating their path. All outside sources of light had vanished.

Saleen retrieved a piece of seabed jade, a precious stone of a slightly lower grade than chlorite. This meant it contained godly power.

Stored within this seabed jade was the Lord of Glory’s godly power. Saleen had conquered millions of armies and had acquired many of such stores of godly power.

Godly power of light was released. The steps immediately flashed a few times and released a gentle radiance.

The godly power was absorbed by the steps. Then, Saleen saw a path that was 50 kilometers long.

The end of the path was still thick with smoke.

Rafel’s began running faster. The Violet Angel and Winged Skull had no choice but to spread their wings and fly in order to keep up. Saleen used the earth’s power to follow behind them at a comfortable pace. He still had some excess power.

They sprinted for about 100 kilometers. Suddenly a spear appeared in Rafel’s hands and was flung into the smoke.

A low, muffled cry of pain sounded. Saleen retrieved his clan badge and was prepared to deal with the unknown enemy.

Rafel retrieved her spear. A monster that was not even one meter tall was skewered onto the spear. With its feathered wings, it looked like an angel; however, the little monster’s wings were tattered and multicolored instead of one pure color.

The little creature even brandished a sharp fork in its hands. Rafel’s shook her spear and tossed it in front of Saleen.

Howl!

A large monster about ten meters tall came rushing out from the smoke. Saleen saw it with his eyes and felt it was like a mountain troll that had shrunk in water. There were relatively more types of magic beasts in the Chaotic Swamp. The monsters that suddenly appeared in the smoke all looked malnourished.

The lighting warriors flew out from Saleen’s magic amplifier and charged at the monsters that kept increasing in number. Rafel did not slow down: She killed everything in her path as she moved and advanced about five kilometers. A blinding light suddenly appeared, and the steps beneath their feet could no longer be seen.

Within the light, there was a great number of angels…

Not angels, but demi-angels. Fycro had not completed the production of these combat weapons. He used the creatures within the Chaotic Swamp to create them but had not used godly power to create them from scratch.

Demi-angels were a miserable lot. They had a lower position than angels and served as cannon fodder.

On seeing Saleen and his party, these demi-angels that had lost their god rushed up one by one. Saleen sighed and emitted his Lightning Constellation, releasing all the lightning warriors to meet these demi-angels head-on.

Rafel and the others stopped and watched the demi-angels perish like moths attracted to a flame as they entered the Lightning Territory. Zap! The lightning warriors killed every last one.

The combat ability of the demi-angels was simply too weak. Without a god, their level was not even as good as it had been in their previous lives.

After some of the level-8 and level-9 magic beasts in the Chaotic Swamp had been manufactured into demi-angels, their power had decreased continuously. They were probably only at level-5 or level-6 strength. They needed to gain Fycro’s godly power, after which would they be able to explosively release power surpassing that of level-9.

Currently, these demi-angels didn’t have anything and were all in a tragic state. Before Saleen and his party arrived, the demi-angels had already begun killing each other off.

After Saleen released his Power of the Soul outside, he looked around. He discovered in this abyss enveloped in light that the number of demi-angels numbered 30,000.

Weren’t there only so many magic beasts that could be used in the Chaotic Swamp? Fycro had probably brought all the decent magic beasts to manufacture his demi-angels. The Chaotic Swamp would probably no longer be as dangerous as it once was.
