Chapter 779: Nailisi’s Cunningness (Part 1)

Whatever the God communicated with the Pope was considered God’s order. The Holy War that the Pope had started was in the name of the God. The Oracles, the Pope, and the Supreme Court were all on equal standing and the Oracles doubted the authenticity of the orders from God as claimed by the Pope.

As a result, the Oracles did not lend their strength according to the Pope’s plans in the Holy War. It was the Supreme Court that sent out many armies instead. That included blood knights and wardens. The Supreme Court did not deploy too many Black Deacons and Adjudicators. The black high priests that were part of the vanguard did not hold important positions in the Supreme Court.

The red Bishops were not surprised by the deaths of the black high priests, but were by the appearance of the demon army. It would not have been strange if it was just a few hundred demons because it was still possible that they might have been summoned by some daring mages.

The problem was that this was a demon army with a system, officers giving orders, knowing how to get into complicated formations, cooperating with each other in battle. This was a serious problem.

Within the demon army was a powerful demon that massacred the blood knights with its gigantic long lance. The two red Bishops looked at each other and nodded. The sacred knights that were protecting them gradually approached the giant demon.

This demon was created from Nailisi’s ultimate shapeshifting skill. Its power was not even equivalent to that of a supreme demon. The red Bishops could not tell that, so they decided that they must kill this leader of the demons. It had caused so much misery for the blood knights. Now, the blood knights had to go around the flanks of the demon in order to battle with the demon army behind.

Blood knights did not seem to possess any advantage over demons. In terms of strength and defense, demons were much better than blood knights. The armor that Saleen had prepared for this ten-thousand strong demon army was of the same grade as devil armor, except for an eighty percent reduced flying ability. He did not require a flying army at the time. The demon foot soldiers were already fast enough on foot.

The demon that had been transformed into a devil led the way while another one-hundred or so powerful demons followed behind him as if they were his bodyguards, repelling the attacks from both flanks. This allowed the gigantic demon to charge forward unobstructed, causing the blood knights’ formation to be in complete disarray. Without their speed, the blood knights stood no chance against the demons, even if it was three or five of them against one.

The red Bishops approached slowly. The range of divine spells was approximately the same as that of spells, but the rate of attenuation of them was much faster than for spells. Typically, a mage’s attacking range might be the same as that of a holy priest, but the damage was greater. The difference between the rates of attenuation was less obvious if the attacking range was within one-hundred yards. This only applied to middle-grade divine spells. Grade-8 holy priests could already use high-level divine spells and their attacking range was more than two-hundred yards. Only alchemy crossbows could threaten their safety; ordinary crossbows would be rendered useless.

The demon at the forefront was sensitive to danger. The demons might not be very intelligent, as their brains have been damaged by the summoning magic array, but their basic instincts had become much stronger. The movements of the two red Bishops did not escape the demons.

More than four-hundred death knights moved amongst the demons towards the two red Bishops. Nailisi held tight onto the magic staff in her hand. The effect that Saleen was having on her was decreasing. She could activate grade-8 death magic now. This was her advantage over other demons – she could use mental strength to cast the spells that had been stored. This was something that other demons would not be able to accomplish no matter how powerful their mental strength was.

One of the red Bishops opened a divine spell scroll. A blinding light appeared, pushing away the clouds in the sky. A gigantic holy prose spun in the sky and lit up the ground. There was fresh blood, corpses, broken weapons, and grasses that had been trampled on everywhere.

The distance of two-hundred yards had just been reached and the red Bishop had completed what he needed to set up – a holy zone that would greatly increase the powers of the God’s disciples and double the effects of divine spells.

The huge demon suddenly howled and turned to run towards the side. The demons around him followed suit. They would avoid entering the holy zone at all costs. The demon army behind them did the same thing. They divided themselves into two, bypassed the holy zone, and attacked the south.

The red Bishops were stunned. The holy zone was only a tool for preparation and not to cause damage. Demons were not considered evil creatures, so their powers would not be affected in the holy zone. Nevertheless, these demons still bypassed the holy zone that occupied more than four-hundred yards. This was simply…

At that point in time, something happened that stunned the red Bishops even more. Hundreds of death knights were charging in their direction.

These spirits should be affected by the holy zone! Usually, when spirits of the dead entered this zone, their attributes would decrease by at least half for ordinary spirits and more than twenty percent for powerful ones.

This madness was incomprehensible. Death knights usually possessed mild intelligence, which should be sufficient for them to avoid landing themselves in such a disadvantageous situation.

The red Bishop’s sight landed on a death mage amongst the death knights.

The red Bishops could barely breathe for this female death mage was an absolute beauty. She held a green magic staff and was approaching them amongst the death knights.

What a beautiful woman! If she could be influenced, cleansed, and subdued to become a disciple, that would be…

The two grade-8 red Bishops were seduced by Nailisi momentarily. That moment was all Nailisi needed to raise her magic staff and aim at one of the red Bishops.

Nailisi chanted in the spirit language that even she did not understand. Her mental strength did not require the compatibility of mantra, so she was merely putting on an act.

Gray magic light lit up and within the holy zone on the ground, thousands of tentacles shot out from the ground. Hundreds of wardens were tangled up and even more purple tentacles wrapped themselves around the two red Bishops.

The black armor on the wardens that had been tangled up clanked together. The death knights charged at them and used their gray bone spears to pierce through the gaps of the wardens’ armor.

Seduction was not a rare ability, in fact, some demons could even use spells that possessed attributes of seduction. The people that Nailisi managed to seduce were two grade-8 red Bishops, so it was something to be proud of, even if it was only momentarily.

Such a short pause allowed the grade-8 death magic spell, chaotic dance of death, to be successfully cast. The purple tentacles possessed a strong numbing ability and were also able to absorb the target’s life. Although the wardens’ armor was not broken, the death knights charged with so much force and forward momentum that their bone spears pierced through the wardens’ eye sockets without any obstruction.

“Damn it!”

The red Bishops were ashamed of themselves for falling for the seduction of a death mage, thereby allowing their enemies to attack their subordinates easily.

“Holy word!” A red Bishop read out a prayer for a short while before releasing a wave of holy light from his hands. Powerful Godly power was aimed at the death knights while a holy priest silently cast a bout of mental paralysis.

The target of mental paralysis was Nailisi. Nailisi had thrown out a piece of obsidian prior to the attack, which exploded in mid-air to release a gigantic spirit substitute. This spirit substitute did not possess any attacking abilities and its only purpose was to take the hit for Nailisi.

This spirit substitute would not be able to withstand physical attacks, but mental attacks would not be able to pass through it. The mental paralysis was used up entirely on the substitute. It became mad immediately and Nailisi lost the ability to control it. The spirit substitute screamed and sprinted ahead, attacking the wardens that had been tangled up by the tentacles.

Its attacking abilities were too pathetic. When the spirit substitute slapped the wardens with its palms, they broke into small pieces and the substitute screamed even louder. It was so loud that it affected the prayer that the holy priests were chanting.

Mental paralysis was a high-level divine spell. It was highly effective on mages, even more so than the Speech Prohibition spell. After all, mages did not need to chant mantras when they used scrolls and spells kept in magic staffs or other items. The main purpose of the Speech Prohibition spell was to disrupt mages from casting powerful spells as many high-level spells could not be cast immediately nor silently, even if the mage was very proficient in those spells.

Mental paralysis could cause a mage to lose control of their mental strength temporarily, so that he would have no way of casting any high-level spells. The problem was that prior to the attack, Nailisi had tossed out a spirit substitute instead of a spirit guardian.

Mental paralysis could penetrate through most magic shields, including something as tough as ice plate armor. Unfortunately, this divine spell was a single-hit attack and could not be cast continuously. After the spirit substitute absorbed the attack, Nailisi was safe and continued to charge ahead.

Using low-level magic to repel a high-level divine spell was a fighting technique that greatly resembled Saleen. This was not a gamble as Nailisi’s self-defense was so high that the enemy’s divine spell could not possibly kill her in an instant.

Nailisi’s magic staff could store two spells. This was the advantage of high-level equipment as ordinary magic staffs would only be able to store one spell and would not be able to store another for a short period of time after the original one had been used. Nailisi raised the magic staff, but did not cast any death magic spells. Instead, she used her other hand to take out a scroll from the leather skin bag and smashed it on the skeletal warhorse’s head.

The scroll broke into pieces and the skeletal warhorse was engulfed in green flames. Soul flame burned ferociously out of its eyes. Black flames appeared under the skeletal warhorse’s hooves and its speed increased by several times. The bones in its body could no longer bear such great power and cracks began to appear.

A low-level spirit instantaneously possessed the power of a middle-level spirit. The skeletal warhorse would not survive for more than ten minutes. The corner of Nailisi’s mouth raised into a grin that was just like Saleen’s. Her entire plan was to misdirect the enemy into thinking that she was a death mage and not just a pure imp, a Luoluokaluo.

Holy priests’ physiques were much poorer than mages so the outcome was obvious the moment a demon managed to get close to them. Nailisi was pleased. The skeletal warhorse reared itself up and brought down its gigantic hoof, that carried black flames, onto the red Bishop on the left.

The distance between both parties shrunk from one-hundred yards to less than a yard. Black flames engulfed the horse’s hooves as they trampled on the red Bishop’s chest. If they made contact with the red Bishop, half his body would be crushed.

“Holy shield!”

There was no time for the red Bishop to cast any attacking divine spells, he did not dare to sacrifice his life in exchange anyway. In his eyes, Nailisi was a death mage, so even if she was killed, she would still be able to transform her soul instantaneously to become a high-level soul witch.

Training over a period of time would still allow a soul witch to preserve her body and become a lich. As for him, if his body was crushed, he could only pray that the Gods would still remember him and allow him to be revived in heaven.

Nailisi crashed onto the blinding holy shield along with her horse. Behind her, the image of a three yard tall angel from heaven appeared. There was a pair of gigantic white wings on the back of this angel, who hacked at the back of Nailisi with the giant sword of glory in his hands.

The expression on the other red Bishop was a little dejected. The purple tentacles surrounded him and were within a yard of the Bishop, but were unable to get closer. This was the center of the holy zone, which was also a grade-8 technique. Touch of Death was a spell that caused area effect damage and was unable to penetrate his defense.

“Teacher!” The two death mages recalled Nailisi’s instructions and quickly called out to her when she was in danger.

The skeletal warhorse, which had been activated into a middle-level creature, crashed onto the transparent holy shield. The black flames on the hooves extinguished instantaneously and the horse’s limbs turned into ashes.

There was a vicious look in Nailisi’s eyes. A layer of electric current appeared on the surface of her body, following which, she dove into the holy shield like a fish and passed through the grade-7 defensive divine spell. On the other hand, there was nothing left of her skeletal warhorse as it had been cleansed by the holy shield.

There was a look of panic in the red Bishop’s eyes. Nailisi’s death magic spell was pure. He could never imagine that a beautiful mage like her was not human. No, she was not a mage at all. The smooth hands of hers were already growing sharp nails that were half a foot long and they pierced into the chest of the red Bishop.

Nailisi used lightning cloak to pass through the holy shield forcefully. She felt dizzy, as if countless disciples were chanting prayers around her, trying to convert her into a disciple of the Lord of Glory. Beneath her magic robe, all the obsidians that hung at her waist all broke into pieces and dispersed into the wind. The spirit powers stored in the obsidian was destroyed by the power of faith in the holy shield.

Nailisi’s disguise had completely failed. The two red Bishops finally realized that this woman was not a mage!

Nailisi knew that her nails had pierced through an illusion instead of a real target. She knew that grade-8 holy priests were not that easy to kill. She bit the tip of her tongue in order to recover a sliver of clarity and spit out a thin and transparent needle from her mouth. This needle pierced through the illusion and through the throat of the red Bishop, creating a hole in his collarbone and severing a nerve.

This needle was made from small pieces of dragonshards. It was purely a physical attack, without any elemental powers involved. Nailisi had to beg the two grade-9 sorcerers to help her refine such a needle.

Pure dragonshards and a pure physical attack were the best ways to overcome defensive divine spells. The two of them were barely a yard apart, so the dragonshard that Nailisi had spit out ended the grade-8 holy priest’s life.

This was how demons killed – by being cunning and unpredictable.

The red Bishop died instantly and the holy shield vanished. The illusion of the angel from heaven continued to wield its giant sword in pursuit of Nailisi. She did not bother to turn back and instead, turned her attention towards the other red Bishop.

At such close distances, holy priests and mages were no match for demons.

After witnessing his companion’s death, the red Bishop no longer dared to use a holy shield to defend himself. The ring on his finger flickered and rows of huge light spears appeared on both sides. They were clustered together like gears in a machine while rolling towards Nailisi. At the same time, he shouted, “Repent!”

Nailisi felt her body become heavy suddenly before crashing towards the ground. The sounds of prayers were roaring in her brain. She could not control her body and she could barely make out a pair of gigantic eyes staring at her and demanding her to kneel down in worship.

After being dealt a blow by the holy shield earlier, Nailisi was unable to resist the repentance technique of the holy priest. It looked like she was about to give in. She clearly remembered that she was crashing towards the ground, yet it felt like she was flying towards the top of a mountain.

No, that was not the top of a mountain. It was a lifeform that was as grand and majestic as the top of a mountain; it was a God.

The God was thousands of yards tall and was looking down at her, a small and pathetic life. Around the God were countless creatures that knelt at its feet and were singing its praises.

“Place your faith in me and you shall have freedom!”

The God’s voice rang in Nailisi’s brain. She could hear nothing else except this voice.

Nailisi was intrigued. “Freedom?”

“Nailisi, eat me and you will be free.” Saleen’s voice appeared out of nowhere. His smile seemed to appear in front of Nailisi.

“No! What will happen to Master if I were to be free?!” Nailisi raised her head and her body began to grow. This time, she used the ultimate shapeshifting skill with the intention of becoming as tall as the God, so that she could fight it. She would rather eat up the God. She did not want freedom!

The illusion was destroyed when she had barely grown to twenty yards. Nailisi saw the grade-8 holy priest opening up a divine spell scroll. As for herself, she did not transform at all and had crashed onto the ground. Everything was an illusion that took place only in her heart.

The huge sword behind Nailisi slashed down and the tail that she had hidden behind her whipped out violently, smashing the sword into pieces. The angel of heaven was merely a puppet that had been summoned. Nailisi ignored the pain in her body. A pair of wings extended out from beneath her ribs and she stomped once against the ground to pounce towards the red Bishop with the magic staff in her hands. The layer of electric current appeared on the surface of her body once again.

“Despicable God, how dare you try to separate me from my Master!” Nailisi gritted her teeth. Her limbs and tails pushed off against the ground at the same time, giving her speed that was so fast it was hard to see her.

The red Bishop opened the scroll and a huge door of light appeared. Nailisi’s body passed through the door and landed a heavy punch on the red Bishop’s face. The electric current on her body vanished. She was now feeling the effects of the divine spell of space and although she managed to make it through, she could feel that almost all her strength had been used up.

This punch only resulted in some cracks in the red Bishop’s skull.

Nailisi was filled with hatred because the armor that she was wearing, which was the most fitting amongst all her armor, had been destroyed by that huge door. She was completely naked now and the red Bishop could see all the scales on her body.

Saleen had spent a lot of effort to refine the armor for her. The skins of purple-gold sea urchins lined the interior of the armor so that Nailisi would be able to store many items. Now, aside from her bracelet, all the other items had been devoured by that space door.

Nailisi’s power had been severely depleted. It would take time to transform back into her original imp form from human form. She had made this transformation almost instantaneously to leverage the complementing lightning guardian in order to overcome the divine spell of space, otherwise she could very well have been locked up in a place similar to the Twelve Notes of Purgatory.

After one punch, Nailisi’s tail curled up and the sharp spike at the tip of her tail pierced into the red Bishop’s abdomen.

Nailisi broke out in a cold sweat when she noticed the aura of life disappearing from the red Bishop’s eyes. She was fortunate that this was a holy priest and not a mage, or her mistake would have been fatal.

The holy priest’s attack was too simple, which posed little threat to an imp like her with complicated attributes. Losing the ability of lightning guardian temporarily to destroy a grade-8 divine spell was worth it.

Nailisi no longer had any more strength as she collapsed on the ground with the holy priest. She looked at the sky and all she could hear were the dull battling sounds between the demons and the blood knights. Both sides were fearless warriors, but the demons held the upper hand.

The angel of heaven, whose weapon had been crushed, lowered its head and stomped its foot down hard. Nailisi whipped her tail, crushing its leg into a cluster of white holy light that vanished into the air.

How helpless! Nailisi took out a bottle of magic fluid from her bracelet and consumed all of it. The holy zone had yet to vanish and was the reason why this angel of heaven was still around. It had lost a leg so it collapsed onto the ground, but it was still determined to crawl towards Nailisi.

Nailisi was fatigued, but there was still a lot of fight left in her. At least her tail still retained enormous power.

All demons cherished their tails because they represented a second life. When they were at their most fatigued state, their tails were the most reliable weapons.

Nailisi did not transform into her devil form. She could sense that an even more powerful opponent was approaching in the sky. She only took out the Twelve Notes of Purgatory from her bracelet and waited quietly.

This person came alone, so he must be very confident that he could not be defeated. Nailisi would not be able to defeat this person on this battlefield even if she transformed into her devil form. “Come into the Purgatory then.” Nailisi’s tail whipped at the angel of heaven again.

Over on the battlefield, the demons had gained the upper hand, but the fellow that was pretending to be a devil had already collapsed on the ground in fatigue and was panting heavily. This demon did not possess the powers of a devil, so it was too overwhelming to try and wield that long lance. Within a few minutes, the demon could not take it anymore and became a target board for the blood knights.

A red figure appeared in the sky directly above Nailisi. This was an elderly holy priest. He was wearing a tall hat and his long robe danced in the wind. His hands held a huge book.

He was shocked to see the two dead red Bishops, then he shifted his gaze onto Nailisi. There was a look of crazed fascination in his eyes when he saw Nailisi’s original form.

“What a unique demon! You are mine now!”
