Yue Gu Zai read the doctors’ reports about Zhen Zhen’s body condition. He wouldn’t be happy until she woke up even though the reports indicated her body was in a stable condition.
‘Boss, there is a 0.1% chance Miss Zhen Zhen is in pain,’ Bai Yu Tian said. ‘It’s good news she’s not in a critical condition and she’ll wake up soon.’
Yue Gu Zai stayed in bed with Zhen Zhen until she woke up the following morning.
Zhen Zhen opened her doe eyes and she saw an unfamiliar room. Her doe eyes became teary and she heard a cold voice next to her ear.
‘Don’t cry,’ Yue Gu Zai said.
Zhen Zhen turned her head and she saw a beautiful man. But he looked fierce so she swallowed her tears.
‘Who are you?’ Zhen Zhen asked. ‘Why are you this fierce?’
Yue Gu Zai thought Zhen Zhen looked pitiful and he softened his tone.
‘Thank you Miss Zhen Zhen,’ Cheng Yi said. ‘But it’s better if you don’t like me.’
Cheng Yi didn’t want Yue Gu Zai to kill him.
‘Miss Zhen Zhen, why don’t you like me and Huyen Di but you like Cheng Yi?’ Bai Yu Tian asked.
Zhen Zhen pointed at Huyen Di. ‘I don’t like him because he’s too cold, not adorable.’
Zhen Zhen pointed at Bai Yu Tian. ‘I don’t like you. You’re smiling but it’s a fake smile.’
Bai Yu Tian’s body tensed. Everyone knew what Zhen Zhen said was true but it was an unspoken truth, because most people were scared of him and Huyen Di. He thought the naive and honest Zhen Zhen was adorable.
Cheng Yi’s stomach hurt from holding in his laughter. He was happy finally the Bai fox tasted bitter medicine.
‘Miss Zhen Zhen, thank you for the compliment,’ Bai Yu Tian said.
Zhen Zhen didn’t know why Bai Yu Tian wasn’t angry. Instead he thanked her for insulting him.
Zhen Zhen turned to Yue Gu Zai and she spoke softly to him. ‘Bai Yu Tian is a weird man.’
Cheng Yi couldn’t hold back his laughter anymore and he laughed loudly.
Bai Yu Tian calmly picked up an injection to reduce Zhen Zhen’s fever.
Zhen Zhen saw the sharp needle and she hugged Yue Gu Zai tightly.
‘I don’t want a shot!’ Zhen Zhen said.
Yue Gu Zai stroked Zhen Zhen’s hair.
‘It doesn’t hurt,’ Yue Gu Zai said.
Cheng Yi wanted to say Yue Gu Zai shouldn’t look serious while comforting another person.
‘Gu Zai, I don’t want a shot,’ Zhen Zhen said.
Zhen Zhen cried and Yue Gu Zai patted her back.
‘Don’t cry,’ Yue Gu Zai said. ‘Tell me why you’re scared of needles.’
Zhen Zhen shook her head.
‘From experience I think Miss Zhen Zhen’s fear stems from a past traumatic experience involving needles-’ Bai Yu Tian said.
‘Boss, the ICT system is attacked by a virus,’ a gang member reported at the door.
Everyone followed the gang member to the ICT room. The screens were black. Cheng Yi entered a code and Yue Gu Zai stopped Cheng Yi typing after a message from Shu Tang Jue was visible on the screens, ‘Yue Gu Zai, are you satisfied with the gifts? Even though the biological weapons plan failed, but the experiments yielded unexpected results. Yue Gu Zai, hope you’re appreciating the gifts.’
‘Cheng Yi, Tan Lang’s experiments are stored on their master computer,’ Bai Yu Tian said. ‘Can you search for the antivirus?’
Cheng Yi’s ten fingers typed in a code for ten minutes.
‘Did you find anything?’ Yue Gu Zai asked.
‘They know we would hack into their system so they put extra walls up,’ Cheng Yi said. ‘I need more time to find the antivirus.’
While Cheng Yi was thinking of a way to get through Tan Lang’s defences, Zhen Zhen’s fingers typed in a code. A minute later she smiled at Cheng Yi.
‘Take a look,’ Zhen Zhen said.
Cheng Yi happily knocked on the table. He forgot Zhen Zhen was a genus.
‘You did a good job,’ Yue Gu Zai praised and rubbed Zhen Zhen’s head.
Zhen Zhen was happy to hear Yue Gu Zai praise her and she offered him the bun she was eating.
‘It’s delicious,’ Zhen Zhen said.
Yue Gu Zai opened his mouth and Zhen Zhen fed him the bun.
Cheng Yi was used to being ignored after a victory so he was surprised Zhen Zhen high five the hand he held up.
‘Zhen Zhen, let’s go,’ Yue Gu Zai said.
‘Um,’ Zhen Zhen said.
Zhen Zhen walked three steps with Yue Gu Zai and she turned her head around. She saw a deeply moved Cheng Yi.
Cheng Yi was deeply moved because after many years he finally met another person who understood his struggles.
