The notifications continued without end as I did my best to continue completing the quest ‘Till They Bleed’, it completed almost every second and the armor pieces simply continued to generate mid air and dropping onto ground without any end to them. But my smile was bright, it was simply too good to be true—no it was perfect.

One level for exploding the ceiling. I smiled, continuously claiming the rewards, reaping the benefits of the quest. More pieces of armor dropped, boots, greaves, trousers—anything. I was also getting bonus attribute points for leveling now. It was… nice.

The notifications slowed, slowly ticking for a few more minutes. Another armor piece fell onto the ground as the notifications finally seemed to come to an end. Two levels wasn’t bad. I smiled to myself, it was certainly better than what I had initially anticipated. I didn’t count, but the number of things I had killed was well into the triple digits. And as the notifications were ending.
[You have…
…
A dozen or more slowly came until they finally stopped.
No level 24? A small laugh left me, I was truly being spoiled. The ceiling around me was cracked and some of the trees were deformed—seeping black sap. But everything had come to a stability. The chamber next to mine had collapsed, the water source was gone and with it the explorer. I regretted it a bit, but I had given her a proper burial, at least I believed.
I finally turned to the pile of armor pieces on the ground, it finally settled in what I had gotten, and I counted about seven armor pieces, some repeated. But all of them were winter white with fluffy clothing, they all seemed to be part of a theme. Seven times forty— Over 280 monsters killed? It was unreal. I smiled feeling a mix of excitement and disappointment, excitement for the rewards and disappointment because it felt free. All I had done was blow up the mana crystal and—
I shook my head and first turned to my boots. I hadn’t even inquired them the moment I got them. For all I knew they were common quality.
[Boots of Winter Brilliance (Uncommon) — Boots from the exalted Brilliance Empire, standard issue for their lowest ranked soldiers. Infuse with mana to extend or retract metal spikes for additional grip.]
I was a bit confused and decided to try as the description commanded. My mana went to my feed and graced the boots, in an instant I felt the sole slightly shift within its comfy insides. I couldn’t quite see it from my position since I was sitting down, but some awkward shifting later I saw small metal spikes on the base of my boots. I touched it with mana once more and they retracted, though it was worth noting that the boots weren’t magically connected to each other, so I had to activate the spikes manually per foot.
I didn’t know how useful the information would be, but I liked the boots due to the lack of grip they had. Which admittedly also made them bad for most things. However, if I laced the spikes with mana—wouldn’t I be able to walk anywhere and everywhere without inconveniences? That was nice.
I turned to the other armor pieces, quickly noticing the pattern amongst them. Rather than white, all of them were uniform with black fabric and protruding solid white things, akin to dried bone. But when I inspected it I saw something rather—weird.
[Winter Brilliance Armor Set (Rare) — A mostly complete armor set from the exalted Brilliance Empire, standard issue for their lowest ranked soldiers. Missing pieces: Boots, Cloak, Gloves. Set Effect (From Current set): Vig +2, Wis +2, +2 Mana Efficiency. Special Effect: Prolonged Endurance — You can endure more pain and strenuous activities.]
Ha? I had the boots, but…
◇ ◇ ◇
After repeated testing of the armor set, no piece gave the attributes itself, instead only when combined would they do something. To add onto that the only piece that had a function embedded on it were the boots. At the same time I couldn’t keep the pauldron from the Illusionist that I had, or I would lose on a different stat. Ultimately, I couldn’t really see Mana Efficiency as a stat, but the total Mana Efficiency that I had seemed to remain the same based on my math. In the end, I was only left with my cloak and glove. I put on the armor that seemed closer to normal clothes than to armor. Their interior was just soft fabric, but the outside was rougher and there seemed to be a clear layer of insulation, and to it were adhered white plates for vital organs.

It didn’t take long before I was fully clothed — for the first time in days — there was a weird sense of uncomfortability as I placed the cloak on. I was now fully dressed in armor that seemed to be made out of bone with a draping black cloak. It was a weird appearance, but the comfortability of it outweighed any sort of other issue, the only concern that I had was the lack of head-protection, considering it was an armor. And then finally I turned to assess my attributes. Mostly pondering where to put the ten attribute points that I had gained from returning.

In spite of my high Vigor, I still needed it to remain alive, and even though the trial was one-sided I did not feel like I lacked any other attribute. Strength was compensated by mana manipulation and the capabilities of the spear, that said I didn’t know when it would fall out of relevancy. Agility was compensated by the ability to slide and explode my arrows, endurance—well I only struggled against the Kame? Perception— I did not feel its effects, so it was always ignored. Perhaps in the future when I had a surplus of points to put into it. But my most important attribute right now, was definitely Wisdom.
With all that in mind, I put 4 points into Vigor and 6 into Wisdom. Bringing them to 63 and 69 respectively. They were so high, a small part of me wanted to put a 3 to 7 distribution to get a 70 on Wisdom, but I figured an extra point in Vigor was better.

I smiled to myself, though I noticed something rather peculiar. My—the skill I had learnt earlier was now under Prophecy rather than the general section? Was it because it was related?
[That’s right, Blair,] Glim suddenly said, confirming my thoughts. It bobbed in place. [I want to apologize.]
“Apologize?”
