AN- Sorry for the delay, i was stuck at work.

Adui was covered in sweat, being judged by the council of the Ulapas family was making stress, especially when one of the members of the council wanted to kill him as brutally as possible. If somehow these guys finds out that he might have unknowingly stolen their family’s generations-old inheritance, and that too from under their noses, then he would be officially fucked.

“The members of the Ulapas family have spoken, Adui, what do you think would be the best punishment for you? Choose amongst all the things that ladies mentioned.” Like a benevolent emperor, Kaisel decreed.

This motherfucker. He wants me to choose the way from which they would get to torture me... That crazy sadist mother fucker! If I ever get a chance I will crush your breathing hole with my foot, fucker. He knew cursing him inwardly would not help him, he needed to think of a way out of the situation, fast.

It was then he spotted Gizelle smiling at him, she was enjoying every moment of this session. There was a very slim chance that he would be able to step out of this manor without any harm, there was nothing he could say that would make these guys change their minds, in the end, he decided to play a gamble, at least that way he could make that bitch stop smiling.

He cleared his throat, and with utmost confidence, he started arguing against his punishment. “Milord, you asked me to choose my punishment, I say that you forgive me.” Kaisel raised his eyebrows, intrigued by his confidence. “And why is that?”

“Milord, I may have made a mistake, my greed got the better of me and bewitched my judgment. For my foolishness,  Lady Gloria had already punished me.” Kaisel snickered, he had anticipated this.

He leaned forward from this throne, with still a smile on his face. “What if I want to punish you as well?”

What Kaisel didn't know, before even speaking Adui anticipated all of this. He sighed from sadness. “I would have no choice but to accept it.” Kaisel’s smile grew even broader, but then he continued. “But milord, I will be of more use to alive and well than 6 feet underground.”

Kaisel sat back. “How so?”

“If my memory serves me right, then you were under the impression that your house would have to go through some struggles to get that piece of land. But that didn't happen now, did it? Instead, I was able to secure that land for you within 2 weeks. I think this shows my competence as well as my ability to get things done in this kingdom.” He then waited for the fish to get caught trapped in his net, and indeed she did.

“We don't need you,” Gizelle said with contempt. “They already have me, I am far more influential and exercise more power than you in this kingdom. You are just some low-birth orphan.”

“And yet, I was the one who got the job.” Gizelle's face contracted with anger. Working for her for the past decade had taught him a lot of tricks that could anger her, he didn't know that he would have any use for them, until this day, isn't life full of surprises.

“It is true, but you were only able to pull this off because you have the mana stones that we gave you.” She tried to retort. But that wouldn't work. He had anticipated this as well.  “As a member of this great family, you had the access to the resources and the negotiating power far greater than me. Even then you could get the deed of the land. What does that tell you?”

Gloria grabbed the armrest of her chair, and tightly gripped them, she was super pissed. “If I had to do it, I would have done a better job you, negotiations were never part of my plan. We were…”

But it was then Kaisel cut her off. “ENOUGH! Compose yourself, you are a high mage as well as a member of a prestigious family, so behave like such.”

His words worked, she quietly sat down again. At that time she didn't understand it, but Kaisel scolded her because she might have said too much…

Wait, did she say that negotiations were not part of her plan? What the hell was she planning? Did she think that she could just talk to both Dukes and sort out the matter between both Barons, then she is truly a monkey waking around with a silver spoon. But something didn't feel right, Gizelle might be the worst woman to ever walk on this land, but she was not that dumb.

Even a guy with sub-par intelligence could see that the fight between the Barons was being orchestrated by Dukes, so surely she could too. But her words, if truly she didn't plan to go with the negotiation route, then there was no way that she could have gotten her hands on the deed. She might be powerful, but even she did not have that much power. Such power is only exercised by the Royal family, and surely they would not help her, then what was her plan?

“So you want me to spare you because you have some worth left to you?” hearing kaisel’s voice, he came out of his stupor. “Yes milord, it is true that you can kill me whenever you like, but I have proven my worth to you and you know this as well, I am a rather valuable asset.  And I don't think you want to waste a valuable asset, now do you?”

Kaisel chuckled, this was not a sadistic smile that had been stressing him for the past few minutes, this was a genuine chuckle. A ray of hope ignited in Adui’s heart, there might still be a way for him to live. “Fine then. I will give you one last chance, you have proven your worth to the house, so I will employ your service once again. But bare this in mind, young mage, cross anyone of my family again, and your faith would be worst than slow torturous death.”

He could help but smile, he was safe. I will keep that in mind, sir.”

Gloria healed you, did she not?” Adui nodded. “She used a very rare item to heal you. Because of it, not only are you healed but also have improved. In a way, she had raised your potential, if you play your cards right and stay diligent to cultivation, you might one day be able to complete a ring yourself…”

To say Adui was shocked would be an understatement, increasing someone’s potential was not possible, at least that is what he had read. A mana wielder’s potential was a measure that helps to estimate how much higher they could ascend in their lifetime, it is based on various factors such as the strength of meridians, brain power, bone power, etc.

A person could improve some of these aspects by eating pills and drinking elixirs or potions, but still, they could change their potential no matter what they consume. That is why in the books it is mentioned that increasing someone's potential was not possible. But here he was sitting in front of people who confessed to him that they had raised his potential.

Does he believe them? Yes, he does. They have no reason to lie, especially about this. He was shaken from inside, and couldn't help but wonder, what kind of height Ulapas family had reached that they torture normal mages like him, with such a precious item for their amusement.

He then noticed that Kaisel was still talking. “… With your potential increase and your work ethic, I believe that you would be able to achieve great heights in alchemy. And I want to use that for our family’s advantage.”

“I understand milord, but exactly do you want me to do?”

“You will go to Gorgon city, the capital of this little kingdom.” He then continued. “Open an alchemy shop over there, increase your presence as well influence in that city. I think the mana stones that you have left would be more than enough for you to open your shop there, right?”

Still confused about where this was going, he simply nodded his head. “Yes, milord.”

“Good.” he then continued. “Make a name for yourself. We will stay in contact, but no soul should ever find out that you know us, nor they should find out about the existence of the Ulapas family. Do you get it?”

“I understand milord.” He could not understand the motive of this move, but he didn't voice out his concerns. This time Sara chimed in. “And for the love of Tibba, change your fucking name. Adui, it is such a weird name.”

“My name?”

“Yeah, your name.” Patrica also joined in the conversation. “Adui is a very weird name. Think about the position you would be handling in the future, you would become a laughing stock with that name.”

Ah…”  He was speechless. He knew that his name was weird, his father was the last surviving member of an ancient tribe of this land, and he named him after the greatest warrior in the tribe’s history. Many people have commented in the past about his name, but he never changed it, his name was the only remembrance of his father, and he didn't want to let it go.

“Do you have a name in your mind, Sara?” Kaisel asked, to which she was happy to answer. “I don't know. It should be something that emanates power you know. Like Arthur, Cleagane, Drac, or Nathan.”

“What about Drac? It means Dragonoid, yes? It would be a suitable name for him.” Patrica said. Gizelle shook her head at her words, she didn't like his new name. “He doesn't look like a Drac, even a fart could blow him away, no one would believe him to be a Drac.”

Till then Kaisel had already made his decision, he ignored Gizelle’s comment and moved on. “Let's just settle on Drac. We don't have all day to think of names.”. It was then he raised his hand and a magic circle formed in the air. As the circle glowed brighter, Adui started feeling agonizing pain from the right side of his chest. He ripped his shirt open only to see, a burn stamp of insignia of the Ulaspas family had formed on his right side chest.

Kaisel stood up, and then continued “Adui Hampshire, rise from your seat,” he did what he was ordered. In a blink of an eye, Kaisel made his way to him. “Get on your knees.” he complied.

“From today onwards, you are part of the Ulapas family, you are this family’s 3rd rate member. From this day onwards you will abandon the name of Adui Hampshire forever and take the mental of Drac Ula forever. You will serve this family and follow their every order till the day you die. If a day comes when you fail to follow orders, this mark of slavery will give you such an agonizing death that even Dryads would be put to shame. Are my orders clear?”

“Yes, milord.” Kaisel smiled. “Now stand up, do you have more questions?”

Everything happened so quickly, that he still couldn't process what had transpired. “Milord, can I keep my surname? That surname is the legacy of father’s tribe and I want to keep it alive.”

Kaisel shaked his head. “No, you may not, the bearers of Ula surname had always been servants of the Ulaspas family. And you would honor that tradition as well. Do you understand?”

“Yes sir.”

***

Opening a potions emporium in the capital, to increase their influence; Gizelle was not planning to do any negotiations from the start, and there is the land acquisition matter. Why am I getting a feeling their visit to this land was never about the Mage tower, to begin with? They are here for something else, but the main question is what exactly does this land have, that is making such strong people go crazy?

He had a lot of theories and speculation about their motives, but in the end, nothing could be said for sure, especially not without any proof or information. It was very hard to determine what that family wanted with this land. If they were only after the inheritance, then could have just taken it, and vanished from this place, but they didn't.

They are after something else, but what could that be? He had read about most of the cities that had ever existed in this kingdom, and none of them mentions a resource that could make such high-ranking people go crazy, so it was safe to assume that whatever they were after, it is either far older than the records of the kingdom or is a relatively new resource which he does not know about, but they do.

Now that the Ulaspas family officially has a hold on him, he was very stressed, he had gotten mixed with people whose power he could not even fathom, and in a way, he had already taken something of great importance from them.

The only good thing about his situation was that he could complete his first ring, he could surpass Rank-10, and become a Rank-11 Mage. He thought that he would never be able to reach that height, but now it was not his dream anymore, it was his future…

Tired and stressed from his life, Adui wandered in the streets of Laverdale, thinking of ways from which he could get out of that family’s grasp. It was a fruitless walk, the only thing he acquired from the walk was a headache. Now, tired he decided that it would be best to go home and relax, he was not in immediate danger, so he should take things slowly, for now at least.

While walking he eventually came across the business street of Laverdale. This street has many shops ranging from clothes, weapons, potions, books, clothes, and many more, Gizelle’s shop was also on this street. Walking through the busiest street of Laverdale, he couldn't help but wonder about the shop that he would open in the capital.

He knew the potion-making inside and out, he could handle that part pretty well, he could also handle logistics and customer support, in a way he could run a successful shop without anyone’s help. All he need to do was find a suitable shop that would serve his need pretty well.

I should probably find a shop with a good support structure, or maybe I should commission one. Gizelle’s shop may look good, but the material used to make the building was so bad that the building itself is a travesty. And most importantly, that damn basement was a literal sinkhole. Gizelle had to spend a significant amount of money to make the building suitable for trading, but that would not happen with his shop, he would see to it.

It was funny because sometimes his workers and he use to joke around that builder of that monstrosity must have made the walls of the building first, then it had built the basement. Wait a minute, when making a building, usually builders construct a secure base, and then he moves up, assembling all the other floors as it goes up.

He had an epiphany, he was doing everything wrong from the start, the cube was never supposed to be solved face by face, it was supposed to be solved like a building…
