Chapter 1
Alio knew it was pure insanity to fall in love with his twin sister. Even if his love was seen as unholy, disgusting, or even corrupted he couldn’t hide the feelings Ailoa made him feel, it was as if his very being was created just to love his mirrored half. To his surprise and pleasure, the woman who he thought would shun and abandon him also confessed her deepest secrets to him that night. They both had been walking the same lonely and twisted path.
It was as if fate became bored and decided to create its own drama show starring two star crossed lovers cursed with familiar origins. That night was like any other night, Ailoa sat by the window at the old; worn wooden table completing her homework assignment while Alio dazedly watched on in silence.
With a blank sheet of paper in front of him, he stole stealthy glances at the small girl before him, capturing her beauty with the delicate sway of his wrists. From the glow of her smooth and flawless carmel skin that had the sun’s blessings rained down upon it, to the two toned plump lips that seemed to be begging to be bitten and ravaged, even down to her full figure which was undoubtedly softer than any cotton and extremely comfortable to hold and squeeze.
With big, round, brown almond eyes, petite thin eyebrows; and two faint dimples along her cheeks. Ailoa was definitely god’s favorite child and he was going to capture all of it in this drawing or at least try to. They may have been identical twins but he felt as though he was cut from a different type of cloth then his sister. While she was a fairy-like existence, he felt like he was a hideous troll coveting beauty which did not belong to him.
With a tall and thin body, long lifeless black hair, mismatched brown and silver sharp eyes. The only thing about himself he liked was the warm brown skin he shared with his sister.
They resembled each other greatly but at the same time were vastly different. As Alio sunk into his thoughts he continued to sketch out the picture of Ailoa with great concentration.
Unbestowed to him bright brown eyes would shyly peek out at him from time to time and admire the features he disdained so much. Time went by peacefully like this as the two quietly enjoyed each other’s company. At a certain time Alio sat down his pen and stood up, his hoodie and sweatpants slightly making him hot. “Ailoa are you hungry? I’m starving..” he looked over at her patiently waiting for an answer.
Immersed in the book she had recently picked up after completing her assignment, Ailoa look up confused for a second before laughing lightly. “I completely forgot.. I’m definitely hungry, at the cafeteria today they served fish, yuck!” She said as she made a face of disgust. Alio was instantly charmed by his sisters cute reaction and grinned holding his hand out to her.
“Come on, I’ll make us something quick in the kitchen. Mom went grocery shopping before her and dad took that trip to Paris. She also said something about a credit card if we ever ran out of anything essential.”
Ailoa happily took Alio’s hand before slightly frowning at the news of their parents taking another trip out of country.
“Again without us?…”
He looked down at her feeling his heart ache seeing her with such a sad expression. “Look at me….” He placed his hand on her cheek and gently caressed her soft tofu like skin. A shameless thought of biting down on those dimpled cheeks came up in his mind and left just as fast as it appeared.
Realizing how wicked his thoughts were becoming he focused back on Ailoa’s bright eyes to distract himself. Ailoa, with her poor face held hostage stared right back into Alio’s deep eyes. “Yes?” She answered back in barely a whisper feeling butterflies swarm up in her stomach as she was looked at so intensely. Her mind fell into chaos and her earlier sadness was long forgotten with the presence of a new, more unstable emotion.
“We are all we need. When our parents leave and the world abandons us, I will always be by your side. Ailoa, you are my planet and I am your moon. My orbit will forever be focused on you. Always. You know that right? There’s no need to want what will never occur.”
Alio softly spoke before lightly tugging the stunned girl into the kitchen with a faint grim light in his eyes. He never noticed the small blush that surfaced on her face once he finished speaking. He tended to never notice the effects he had on her.
“I know, you are the only one I have in this whole world.” Ailoa smiled and her dimples faintly showed themselves uncovering a small window into the joy that she felt.
Alio’s eyes didn’t skip a single beat as they swept over and captured her every expression. The dark gloom building up inside him disappeared and his expression brightened. He washed his hands before heading over to the refrigerator.
“What are you feeling right now?” Alio asked as he opened the stuffed fridge sticking his head in. “Hmm.. mac and tenders?” She responded washing her hands at the kitchen sink then making her way over to the boy also trying to squeeze her head in the fridge.
The teens burst into laughter as they were both squished together. “Perfect choice.” Alio pulled the bottom drawer of the freezer and got out a pack of chicken breast. “Can you go to the pantry and get the pasta?” He asked, setting the pack on the counter top and grabbing a tin bowl, a chopping board, and a sharp knife.

“Okie!” Ailoa immediately agreed, heading back into the dining room.
On her way towards the mini pantry, she paused, staring at the incomplete drawing Alio made of her. So far, the drawing only had her face done; but it made her feel as though she was staring at a photo of herself. Only now did she realize her brother was a hyperrealistic artist. Usually he drew pieces in a casual anime inspired themed way.
“Woah.” She muttered and gently picked up the paper, treating it like a world class treasure.
“Find any pasta in there!”
Alio shouted from the kitchen wondering what held the girl up. “Ah- I'm still looking!” She quickly sat the paper down and hurried to the pantry and fished out the 2 boxes of elbow macaroni from the shelf. “Found them!” Ailoa ran back to the kitchen taking a few heavy breaths.
“Good. The water is starting to boil, can you add some salt?”
Alio asked as he finished washing the chicken breast in vinegar; while slicing the thick pieces into tender sized groups. “Alright, where’s the salt at though?” She was standing on her tiptoes scouting through the cabinets for the box of salt but didn’t find even a shadow of the little square.
“Oh yeah! I’ll get it. It’s at the very back, I forgot to move it up for you.” Alio came over to Ailoa and easily grabbed the salt which was placed deep within the cabinet. Because of their close proximity Ailoa was able to smell his faint minty scent.
“Did you eat my gum?”
She paused and her eyes narrowed down at the man. The box in Alio’s hand froze mid flight. “The one that was on the counter?” His adam’s apple bobbed as he swallowed sharply hesitantly meeting her eyes. “Yes! The one on the counter that had my sticker on it!!” She pouted and reached up trying to grab his ear. “Wait! Wait!” He held her wrist with one hand and covered his ear with the other.
“I’m sorry.” He said smiling, the corners of his lips twitched trying to be as convincing as he sounded.
“I don’t believe it, your face is trembling.” She responded, sighing and held her hand out. “Salt.” His head tilted to the side in question before a switch was turned on in his brain and he hand Ailoa the small box of salt.
“I’ll get you more gum later tonight ok?” He stepped to the side and let her pass by, noting she didn’t look in his direction once.
This brought back memories from their childhood. When they were small they'd always fight over even the smallest of items. Tired of hearing the complaint their mother assigned them both a color and bought a bulk of stickers in the specified color. So whatever was theirs they could lay claims on it and the other couldn't touch. It helped so much that the 19 year olds continued to use the kiddy system their mother provided to this day.
Alioa looked at her nails before sprinkling some salt into the small pot and crossing her arms. Alio internally groaned and floured the thick chicken tender slices dropping them in the hot oil on the stove. When he looked up Ailoa was already across the room watching the popping oil as if it was her biggest enemy. A chuckle broke out from his throat and was silenced under the pressure of her stare. He raised both hands in a surrendering manner and continued to cook the chicken until it was a nice golden brown color with a layer of crispy floured skin.
