Little brother, are you an adult? (1)
Yang Xiao was instantly struck by that smooth voice.
She blushed for about three seconds, but quickly calmed down afterwards. She reminded herself that he was just a “tool” that she had rented for a few hundred dollars, and that his enthusiastic declaration was just a business tactic to impress her.
He adjusted to his role so naturally that he didn’t really seem like a novice to her. Perhaps he was already experienced with situations like these.
Yang Xiao immediately put up her walls and asked in her coldest, most ruthless, most businesslike voice: “Where are you? It’s already 11:30, how come I don’t see you at the entrance of the neighborhood?”
“I’m here too.” He patiently explained over the phone, “I was just working out a bit because I came early and your neighborhood is really strict. I can’t enter without a key card, so I’ve just been waiting for you.”
Working out?
Yang Xiao froze, her sixth sense urged her to lift up her head and look towards the basketball court.
But before she could react, the tall young man had already turned around. The sunlight was blinding, causing him to squint slightly so that his eyes were curved into two beautiful crescents. He searched his surroundings and he soon found his target – his gaze landed straight on Yang Xiao.
At that moment, the sunlight seemed to follow his gaze and illuminate her world.
“I see you!” It all seemed to synchronize with his bright voice, “You drive a red car don’t you?”
With that, he raised his hand high and waved it enthusiastically in her direction, rushing over afterwards.
Yang Xiao sat stiffly in the driver’s seat and watched the young figure run closer and closer.
Damn…
There was only one thought running through her mind over and over again—Tang Shuge didn’t rent her a high school student, did she?
That’s a crime!!!
Yesterday she wasn’t able to send her ex-boyfriend to the police station, was she going to be sent to the police station herself today?
In just a few seconds, Yang Xiao ran through countless scenarios in her head.

“Hold on a second.” Yang Xiao said firmly as she coldly pulled her hand out of his big palm. She gave him a suspicious look, “Little brother, how old are you this year? Have you even reached adulthood yet?”
“Huh?” The young man, no, Meng Yufan, slightly tilted his head in confusion. His face looked just like dogs do when they’re waiting for their owners to pet them. He said, puzzled, “I’ve been an adult for several years…do you want to see my ID?”
Yang Xiao carefully examined him again and found that although his face looked young, it was by no means a juvenile appearance. The only thing she could blame was her preconceptions. Seeing him playing basketball with a group of high school students, she mistook him for a high school student as well.
To be honest, this rental boyfriend of hers was indeed very tall and handsome. When you looked at him closely, you could see just how outstanding his appearance was.
He looked like the kind of golden boy who loved sports. Even his simple outfit, a T-shirt and jeans, couldn’t hide his excellent figure. He didn’t have the exaggerated large muscles of a fitness instructor, but instead tight, smooth lines. Yang Xiao mentally responded: “Satisfied, very satisfied.”
Meng Yufan propped one hand on the car door and bent down to speak with her, staring at her intently with those bright eyes of his.
Just then, a noise came from the basketball court, and a basketball landed right next to her car.
“Brother Yufan! Why did you just leave like that?” The group of high school students who were just playing ball came toward them noisily, “We agreed to play for a little while longer.”
Although they had just met today, Meng Yufan’s superb basketball skills easily won them over. It was so easy for friendships to start between boys.
“Whoa…”
High school students were pretty easy to coax. They all came closer, “Girlfriend? The one in the car is your girlfriend, right?”
When Yang Xiao heard that, it was as if alarm bells started going off in her head. This wasn’t good!
The neighborhood was a community filled with families, and they all had close relationships with their neighbors. Whenever something new happens, the whole neighborhood ends up finding out. When she told her parents she’d be bringing her boyfriend home with her, she specifically told them not to tell the neighbors about it. The whole point was to avoid gossip and being ambushed by old aunties.
Her real boyfriend was out of the picture obviously, so she was just trying to get this “meet the parents visit” over with. But it turns out this rental boyfriend of hers had other plans! He was telling everybody!
Yang Xiao covered her face with both hands, silently wishing she had Harry Potter’s invisibility cloak so she could just disappear.
The high school students swarmed around her car, stretching their necks to get a look of the car window. They had curiosity written all over their faces and tried to coax her to show her face.
“Brother Fan, tell sister-in-law to lift her head and let us have a look~”
“Sister-in-law, lift your head!”
“Which building do you live in, sister-in-law?”
“Have we met before, sister-in-law?”
Meng Yufan stopped the chick-like teenagers: “Alright, alright, that’s enough. Your sister-in-law is shy, don’t scare her.”
Yang Xiao didn’t really know why she did it, but like the hot-headed person she was, she actually stopped covering her face and instead hit the steering wheel. The car horn emitted a loud “beeeep-” sound, scaring the group of chicks and making them shut up instantly.
“Quiet.” Yang Xiao said sternly. Her eyes swept through the lively group and then said, “Make another fuss, and I’ll give your parents a call to drag you all home to work on practice exams.”
“……” The high school students were dumbfounded. They never would’ve imagined that the enthusiastic and cheerful Brother Fan was actually their neighborhood big sister’s boyfriend!
They stammered: “XiaoXiao, Sister XiaoXiao….You’re back….”
All their childhood, Yang Xiao had been the “child from another family” that all of their parents loved. She was beautiful and had good grades, and she had a playful, spirited personality. She was the most popular kid in the whole community, and they grew up listening to stories about her. She was a legend to them, and this group of small beans used to follow her everywhere. They never thought that out of nowhere, Sister XiaoXiao would actually bring her boyfriend home!
It turns out “Brother Fan” shouldn’t be called “Brother Fan”, but “Brother-in-Law” ah!
“Get in the car,” Yang Xiao said, scowling at Meng Yufan as she unlocked the passenger door for him.
Meng Yufan realized that he must have done something wrong and hurriedly bowed his head, cautiously getting into the passenger seat.
As soon as he got in the car, Yang Xiao stepped on the gas and sped down the neighborhood.
Meng Yufan’s legs were very long, so when he had to keep his two legs curled up, he looked miserable.
He asked pitifully, “That…Miss Yang, can I adjust the seat?”
“No.” Yang Xiao replied stiffly.
Meng Yufan didn’t dare speak, he shyly lowered his bashful eyes.
Yang Xiao parked the car in the garage, turned off the engine, pulled up the handbrake and put the windows up.
The whole car instantly became silent.
Yang Xiao twisted her head to look at him, and Meng Yufan stiffened.
Yang Xiao asked, “Mr. Meng, do you have anything to say?”
