There were multiple reasons why Robin had decided to try and bring Gastly. The main reason being the wild Pokemon in Pokemon Go weren't aggressive and never showed any kind of objectionable behaviour when a trainer came across them.
Pokemon in the animation and in the previous Pokemon games he had played on the PC had different behavior, but in Pokemon Go they always showed one kind of behavior. Robin was banking and betting on the fact that a Pokemon which could be brought here wouldn't be as aggressive as the one in animation.
If his calculations went wrong, well it would be game over. High risk, high reward baby!
The Pokeball fell on his bed and opened by itself. And from the aperture of the Pokeball, a white light shot out on an empty. After the white light stabilized in the air, it burst open and from it emerged Gastly.
Gastly emergence instantly ushered a sense of doom around. The bright LED light's power seemed to have diminished by at least half of the original luminosity. Robin felt cold all over his body. This cold wasn't anything like he had ever felt before.
He had hiked on hard ice before and he had felt the cold and chilling strong winds of a place whose temperature was below minus 10 degree Celsius. The cold which Robin felt like he was dipped into a place where there was nothing but loneliness and cold winds blowing all over. In addition to that Robin felt like he was listening to various ghost cries in his ears, whispering, muttering. It was as if someone was telling him that his end was near.
But this small sensation lasted for a very small number of seconds. Everything went back to normal after that. The cold sensation vanished and the light was working properly again. But that small amount of time, Robin felt like years.
He never felt so close to death ever before. Never!! Even after the feeling went away, the trauma remained and he was shaking in fear. Robin didn't notice that Gastly, who had just appeared, was also in a panic mode.
Gastly flew towards Robin and rubbed his head slowly over the cheek of him. Robin almost jumped away seeing this kind of approach of Gastly, thinking that it was going to attack him. But his response time really sucked at that point.
All thanks to his numb feet!!!
But then he realized that Gastly was just rubbing its round black and dull head over his cheek in order to show love. Robin just felt a small sensation when Gastly was touching his cheek. It floated away a few distance seeing Robin was better. It had a smile on its face as it looked at Robin.
It seemed like Gastly was trying hard not to smile like an evil Pokemon. Like the illustrations in the anime, Gastly in reality looked almost the same.
The Pokemon was a round black ball which didn't have any shiny surface. It was as if the Pokemon was built to suck light away from the surroundings. There was a faint black fire burning around its body but there was heat emitting from it. It was rather a feeling of cold that Robin could feel at that moment.
It had round eyes and two sharp canine teeth on both the sides of its upper lips.
Robin looked at Gastly for a few seconds before taking the courage to ask.
"Can you understand me?"
Gastly nodded his head. This response was something Robin expected since the Pokemon could understand the commands in a fight.
"Am I your trainer?" Robin asked again to make sure that the rubbing his head on his cheek wasn't just for show. Gastly again nodded its head signifying that Robin was its trainer. This time Robin didn't stop himself. He just straight jumped in joy.
There was no sound that came from his mouth but he punched in the air in pure excitement. He was absolutely right in his previous calculation.
The person controlling the character was himself so a thing which was brought back to the real world would consider him as the leader. It can be understood by another example. If by chance he was able to bring people from the game like Age of Empires that were under him in the game, then the people who were brought back would listen to him.
He was 80% sure that he was right in this calculation. He just needed enough time and space to prove it. But right now let Robin swim in his own ocean of happiness of getting a Pokemon. Gastly too was happy to see his trainer ecstatic and excited to see it.

Robin wanted nothing but to touch the body of Gastly and cuddle it. But sadly, Gastly was made of gas his hand went right through his body while only feeling a tinge of icy air.
"Gastly, from now you can be with me always and just hide when someone is near me. If anyone, be it a human being or an animal, seems to threaten me, you can teach the other party a lesson. Of course don't kill the other person or animal. You can just show him fear like you did to me a few seconds ago. Do that only when I call you out or signal you. Don't make rash moves before I order you to do so. Is that fine?"
Gastly looked embarrassed as he seemed to be feeling guilty of making his trainer fearful of it. But he understood and nodded his head.
"Gastly, what do you eat? Fruits?... Vegetables?.... Meat?..."
Gastly just nodded it head to all the options. In order to make sure he checked the internet to see what the internet thought Gastly ate. There it wrote Gastly tended to be omnivorous which made Robin also feel relieved. Pokemon couldn't go by without food and it would definitely need sustenance.
"If you want to poop, you can go out and do your work and come back." Robin remembered the other important thing. Gastly just shook its head to that that.
"You don't poop?... Oh God!! Another problem is out of the head. I am living in heaven." Like a good pet owner one must always care for all the things of their pet. Starting from food to the comfort and of course the excrement too.
Now one of the problems just evaporated on the burning black fire over the round head of Gastly. Robin went to check the game Pokemon Go only to see that the Gastly that he had caught was still showing on the pokemons he had captured.
Out of curiosity he checked the stats of Gastly only to see that Gastly wasn't really that powerful. It only had Sucker Punch and Ominous Wind. He decided to power up Gastly and see if there was any change that Gastly might feel.
And the moment he touched the button of power up, Gastly in reality felt the upgrade. Gastly's body squirmed for a bit before smiling happily at Robin.
"Did you get a power up?"
Gastly nodded its head. Wasting no time he continued powering up Gastly until he didn't have the required number of candies to power up. But having a boost gave Gastly immense joy. He needed to get more candies and for that he would either have to pay right now or play a long time to gather the ghost candies that were required to power up, evolve or even learn new attacks.
He could think of this later and right now he was checking Pokemon Go to see if there was any Pokemon nearby that he could bring to real life.
Not all Pokemon could be brought back and right now for Robin, only a ghost type Pokemon would work. He was lucky that he got Gastly that could vanish in front of others. If it was another Pokemon he probably would have never thought of bringing it in real life.
After closing the Pokemon Go game he went to the internet to do his research on the things that could be brought to real life. He needed first and foremost an AI. So in order to bring one he started googling. Gastly who was levitating nearby just floated down on the lap of Robin and closed its eyes.
Gastly looked terrifying for most of the people but for him it looked cute. He wanted to just pet the Pokemon but sadly this wasn't possible. Robin was still happy with his first Pokemon as he continued going through the Internet.
After a load of search and tons of research on google he finally found a game that could help him in his quest to find a good AI that he could control. The AI which he got was kind of famous but it came from the least expected game.
The game was called Marvels' Avengers.
Yup, that's right!! A Marvel game was his best chance to bring out an AI. Games based on movies wasn't one that Robin thought of before but after intensive research this was the only solution he could find. Of course, the AI he was aiming for was JARVIS.
And for this game he needed a PS4 which he didn't have.
