Right after she entered her bedroom and escaped Luke's line of questioning, she checked her phone. She was disappointed to see that Noah had not contacted her.
After what happened with them last night, she was expecting him to pester her this morning. But there was nothing.
She was debating with herself whether or not to send the first message. Her pride was saying no, but she missed him. She wanted to know how he is doing this morning. So, she sent him a good morning text.
After sending the message, she threw the phone on her bed like it was burning her hand. She sighs deeply as she closes her eyes in irritation. She knew she was acting weird, but she couldn't help it.
This is something she has never done before. No man ever received a good morning text from her. Neither her father, grandfathers, nor Luke.
Giving her phone on her bed a strange look that a few minutes have passed and still no reply. The last time she texted Noah, he replied within a few minutes of her message. He must be busy today.
She turned around, pulled the hem of her shirt over her head, and dropped it on the floor. Her black underwear came off her body next -- naked, she headed to the bathroom to take a shower.
She was inside the bathroom for more than thirty minutes. When she came out, she checked her phone and found that there was still no message from Noah.
She sighed and put on a white house dress. She grabbed her laptop from the bedside table. She grabbed her phone and shoved it inside the side table drawer. She doesn't want to keep on checking her phone for Noah's phone because that would be so pathetic.
She would admit being in love but never being lame. She is not going to be one of those clingy girls in Noah's life. She scoffed, slamming her bedroom door.
When she came out, Luke was in the living room. He was giggling while video calling someone. She was just going to leave him alone when he called her.
"Hey, say hello to Lucille," he said, lifting the phone so she could be on camera.
She saw the familiar face of Lucille, she was sitting in a garden chair, she had her panda stuffed toy on a garden table, where she propped her chin.
"Hello," she smiled awkwardly to the kid. She suddenly remembered what Noah said about giving Lucille a younger sibling and her cheeks flushed with the memory.
"Little Miss Jessie!"
Jess chuckled in amusement when Lucille perked up, seeing her.
"How are you, Nugget?"
"Bored! I have so much homework. My mom wanted me to join the Science Club at school but I don't want to. Most of them are so snotty."
"You should join," she told her as she sat down next to Luke for them to be in the phone camera with him.
"I just said that I don't want to because they are snobs," she rolled her blue eyes at her.
She chuckled, "That's why you must join. You can be snotty too!" She grinned, clearly teasing her but Lucille took it seriously and squinted her eyes that she got from her father, and told her, "I will tell my father that you called me a snob!"
Luke elbowed her, but she just shrugged her shoulders nonchalantly, "I don't mind."
"I don't understand why my father likes you," she pursed her lips and scoffed.
"I also don't know. And not sure if he truly likes me."
Luke tugged her elbow, and mouthed, "What are you doing, Jessica?" as he leaned away from the phone camera so Lucille can't see him.
"If you are not sure that my father likes you, why are you with him?" she asked with sheer curiosity.
Jess pushed away Luke who wouldn't stop tugging her elbow.
"Because I want to take revenge on your daddy."
"You should get me if you want to take revenge on my father."
"And why is that?" She arched her eyebrow at her to show her disbelief.
Lucille laughed, and said, "Because Daddy said I am his world!"
"Oh? I guess I made a wrong move on that one. Thanks for letting me know. Make sure not to tell your father that we talked."
Lucille giggled, "You are so funny, Little Miss Jessie."
Jess received an open palm from Luke. He was surprised by the flow of conversation between Lucille and Jess.
Jess couldn't help but laugh softly at how Lucille was giggling so hard.
"You should definitely check out that Science Club, Nugget," she said when Lucille stopped laughing.
"You think so?" she asked with uncertainty in her small voice.
"Hmm," she replied, nodding. If you do that, you may discover that not all of them are as snobby as you think, and also, you seem to like Science, right?"
"Yeah, I like Science. It's one of my favorite subjects at school. And we have a really cool teacher. Thanks, Little Miss Jessie."
"You are welcome, Nugget."
She handed Luke's phone back to him. She furrowed her eyebrows at him when she noticed that he was gawking.
"What's wrong?"
"You two are very strange."
Jess just scoffed and picked up her laptop. She left Luke in the living room and went out to the balcony. She has to distract herself with something productive than just staring at her phone, waiting for Noah's reply. Or worse she could be like an obsessive girl that would send him hundreds of messages. She shuddered with the thought of it.
She opened her laptop to read about her research when an email notification from Ellise popped up in the lower right corner.
When she opened the email, she was stunned by its content.
"This is bad," she muttered under her breath.
"What is bad?"
She glanced up at Luke, who followed her to the balcony. He must have done talking to Lucille.
"Nothing," she said, closing her laptop. She is no longer in the mood for studying.
