"Dr. Sison, good morning."
"Jessica, dear! How are you feeling now?" She rushed towards her and cupped her face, tilting it left to right, as if checking if there were any changes in her face.
A smile escaped her lips as a warm feeling covered her chest. She didn't expect Dr. Sison was this emotional seeing her after being sick for a few days.
"I'm feeling much better now. Thank you, Doctor."
"Oh, no! I heard this stomach flu is nasty. Dr. Schull is still white as paper in his office." she said, shaking her head. "The poor guy."
Dr. Sison held her elbow and stepped backward, giving her a look over, making Jess feel utterly self-conscious because Dr. Llano was in the room with them.
"Uhm, Dr. Sison. I'm here to get my laptop," she said, giving her an awkward smile. She doesn't know how to react to Dr. Sison's affection toward her.
"Oh, yes. But, Jessica don't over-exert yourself. I heard HR is giving you a week's break. And besides, Dr. Llano is working with me. He's an immense help."
She smiled at Dr. Sison and nodded a bit to Gareth who looked busy on his computer but every now and then, he would lift his head from his computer screen and give her and Dr. Sison a quick glance.
She kept her facial expression neutral but she was annoyed for the week worth of sick leave the HR is giving her. She didn't know that she was given that much sick leave. She had a feeling it was Noah's doing.
She also didn't know that Dr. Llano became Dr. Sison's assistant while she was sick. She has no problem with it but from what she heard from June and Luke about this guy, she couldn't help but be wary of him—despite him having a friendly demeanor.
She was going to the hospital with Ellise today. She just dropped by at Dr. Sison's study to retrieve her laptop. But she didn't know that Dr. Sison and Dr. Llano are both working from home today. She slowly made her way to her working desk and opened one of the top drawers.
Her laptop is where she left it. She held it in her chest and turned to Dr. Sison who was already busy with the mountain of papers on her desk. She slowly approached her desk and bid her goodbye. Dr. Sison as usual, whenever she's already focusing on work, she doesn't want to get distracted. She simply grunted and nodded when Jess said goodbye.
She didn't bother to say goodbye to Dr. Llano since he was also already busy on his laptop and the only sound she could hear inside the study was the soft tapping of his laptop keyboard.
She gently closed the door behind her when she got out of the study. Aadir was waiting for her outside the room to inform her that Miss Ellise was waiting for her in the car.
She looked down at the computer she was holding on her chest. If Ellise was already in the car, she would get pissed if she had to make her wait, hence, she didn't return to her room to leave her laptop.
"Thank you, Aadir," she gave him a smile before she made her way to the courtyard where Ellise was apparently waiting.
When she arrived, her brows knitted together. Ellise was the one behind the wheel of a Jeep.
"Where's the SUV?" she asked as she got on the passenger seat and clipped her seatbelt.
"I don't like it," she said, maneuvering the Jeep out of the courtyard of the villa. She glanced at the laptop on Jess' lap.
Another eccentricity of Ellise. She shook her head. If she doesn't like it, no one can force her to like it. "Where did you get this Jeep?" she looked back at the backseat of the car. There's a piece of luggage sitting in the backseat.
"From a friend," she said, glancing at the laptop again. "That's yours?" she asked.
"Yeah," a crease appeared between her brows.
"Did you know I put a tracker on it?"
"W-what?" she twisted on her seat to face her. "What do you mean you put a tracker on my laptop?" She widened her eyes, "you know that it's THE company computer, right?"
She scoffed. "Yeah, I know. Noah gave me permission to do it. Markus was there overseeing the whole thing."
Jess was rendered speechless. She looked at Ellise then at the laptop that was sitting on her lap. She eyed the computer as if it was a ticking bomb.
"When did you put a tracking device on it?" she asked in a small voice.
"Last night."
She sighed. "Ellise, tell me the truth. These bastards that are after me, are they serious?"
Ellise laughed at Jess's question. "You think poisoning you was a freaking joke? I told our aunt by the way. Expect a call from your father."
"Why did you do that?!"
"Because the people after you aren't joking. And I don't want to explain to our aunt and your father why you died under my watch."
She clenched her fist and exhaled a deep breath.
"Just so you know," she gave her a quick glance. "It's already confirmed that they are targeting you because of your relationship with Noah. I'm telling you now because as you can see," she cocked her finger to the backseat, "I'm flying out tonight."
She blinked her eyes and looked at the chaos of people outside the window—they are in front of a local market. She heaved another deep breath and returned her gaze back to Ellise. "What else did you do that I should know?" She asked in clenched teeth.
"That's all. If you have other questions, ask Noah. It seems like he was the one that had other things that he didn't tell you."
"I don't like that tone of your voice, Ellise. If you have something against Noah, spit it out!"
"I have nothing against Tiefenbacher. I just hope he told you that before he asked me to put a tracking device on your laptop, he already installed something there to spy on you."
"For goodness sake, Ellise! It's a fucking company-owned computer. I'm working on some confidential things. The company had it installed."
"If the company already has something to monitor what you're working there, then the more that you should ask Noah why he has the need to install another one."
Jess pinched the bridge of her nose.. She felt a headache creeping on her temples.
