Huff huff.

Running, there I was, the sticks and leaves screaming as I passed over them, as if in protest for my continued existence. As if I would heed them, death was the last of my priorities, even now, after I was forced here.

Huff huff

Though right now I have not much to do, even if I wanted to. Thump Thump, and that was not the sound of my heart, but the thing that decided that I looked like easy prey, and won’t relent. “Fucker, you could choose someone else for lunch.” I wanted to scream, but I needed to devote my all into running, even if this was on purpose this bastard of a lion and a hawk is persistent. Its continued pursuit would hopefully make it more focused on me, and not its surroundings, mostly because I could hear the crumbling of trees as it charged, probably young ones, since it wasn’t that big.

Thump, thump… thump, thump was all I could hear, the rest of sounds only a distraction, I needed to know how far it was at all times, and surprisingly, it’s speed was comparable to mine, even if my shape was not athletic, all I could thank was the cards.

And there it was, a place I found earlier, and just a bit more, just a bit… And Charge, all my muscles went into overdrive so that I could in a burst get the high ground, hehe, I couldn’t even perceive the sound of a glass breaking, the thing climbing and grunting as it tried to approach me very apparent, but regardless, it was the end of it, two cards in my hand, briefly glowing, and shattering with a distinct sound of glass breaking, a spear thrower and a spear, already in position, Precise Shot, and it went to its eye, I had 2 uses still, and 2 other spears, It either went down now or a bit from now, regardless I would survive.

Heaving up and down both looked at the other, the half-blinded knew it could lift itself, it hadn’t been gravely injured, so it did so, it’s prey briefly stiffening in what it could only describe as fear, but it did not relish in it, both because the prey took out another one of those sticks, and that it had been ordered to fight any other, even if unworthy, regardless it took a step forward, at least, it tried to, as its body failed itself, what had happened to it, worse and worse it got, as it body stopped responding to it, all it could see was the prey, no ambusher, relax and brazenly walk closer to it.

The beast was trying to kill me with its eyes, at least that is what it felt like, now that I can see it better, this is a griffin isn’t it, the fiction kind, not the one from the myths, but right now it mattered not, all I needed was to kill it, before I got to close I turned, there to the side was some tools of mine, what I needed, the axe, picking it up I went back to the griffin, chopping at its neck, a few times.

As I looked over to the beast, storing its head, I could only think back to how this came to be.

***

I was running, it seemed like it was a curse or something, but I can hardly remember why, just that something, very weird, non-existent was chasing me, my backpack in my arms I had not time to put it normally, but it was easier to run like this.

Woosh, it passed right after me, maybe its momentum was to high to suddenly stop, and since I had ducked to an alley, it went right after, there wasn’t anywhere I didn’t know around here, I thought, not wanting it after me I ran, like really ran, even if I wasn’t the fastest, strongest, or wisest, I had enough to know there was something immediately wrong, this alleyway was supposed to be 100 meters and open on both sides, and yet, it just stretched over and over, what was happening was weird, but I had the hearing to know that I did not have time to ponder, the hellish banshing of goats, or the screaming for help out of a voice that was neither old, young or any age in between could be heard behind me, there were more, but I could not nor did I want to describe them, not looking back I just ran, the ground was weird, the buildings stretching so far up the sky it seemed to devour it, and it felt twisting, not the road but gravity, as if it was rotating, the ground soft like jelly, and hard as a diamond, I felt sick, with so many conflicting sensations the food wanted to escape out of the confines of my body.

And then and there it happened, so far inside nowhere, I fell, not in a hole, but through the ground, then and there the only thought was, not the backrooms not the backrooms not the backrooms not the backrooms… over and over, as I continued to fall, flashes of yellow, the amount of time I fell made me go to terminal velocity and as if saying such things are bullshit, I just stopped, no answer, like magic, and I was inside a room, there was nothing but bricks, and a door right in front of me, wherever I was, at least the thing wasn’t after me.
