My first thought was about the buildings that lined each side of me and the people walking next to them, not where I was. My second thought was to praise their intelligence, encouraged by the carriage running towards me. Taking the non-spoken advice of the carriage, I leaped to the side to avoid my first death being by horse, looking up towards the building I had fallen next to.

It was an inn and tavern in one, judging by the noises, the building itself seemingly competing with the buildings around it in size, and it was unmistakably winning. The only thing separating me from the patrons inside the building was a saloon door. It was a wide building rather than a tall one, with a sign out front with the words ‘The Fuzzy Duck Bar and Inn’. A strange name, but who am I to judge?

Looking towards the sky, I spotted the almost-too-literally blazing sun. It seemed smaller in comparison to Earth’s sun, but I assumed that to be distance, not quite based on mass or sheer size.

While I was still concerned about why the game had spawned me in front of oncoming traffic, I dismissed it for now. Checking my inventory, I noticed I had no starter currency, making me delay the renting a room goal I had thought of less than a minute ago. Then again, this wasn’t my destination anyway, so I didn’t want a room here anyway. Standing up once more, I looked down both ends of the street to try to figure out which side the entrance would be on. To no surprise, both sides had a gate, a small fountain sitting between the gate and the cobbled street that I was standing on.

Picking a direction, I maneuvered my way through the bustling street. It wasn’t an overpopulated street, but there were enough people that you did need to go around a few every few steps. I reached the edge of the road in record time, a personal best no doubt, and walked casually around the fountain.

The fountain itself was taller than me, although I didn’t quite know how tall I was, and I was standing at no shorter than 5’6” with quick comparison to people near me. It was about as wide as it was tall, and the road almost the same width as the fountain.

Passing the fountain, the monstrous gate was now a few hundred meters from me. It spanned the entire city and surpassed it, and here I could guess just how big the city I was in was.

I had the feeling it was a major city, but not the capital. I could be wrong, but the only thing I was going on was the fact that I didn’t see some grand palace on a mountain or something. Either this was a small kingdom or it was a major trading port like the lack of a wall to the west in the distance seemed to suggest.

Walking towards the gate, I sent a friend request to my sister using the game’s menu before I continued. I was honestly just hoping she recognized me, but I guessed it was rather a matter of time. I opened my menu by turning my hand into a fist, rotating it with my palm facing the ground, and then flicking my thumb upwards. The menu’s contents animated beautifully above my thumb, shifting to their positions in a few milliseconds. Using a finger, I pressed the Attributes button.

I wasn’t sure how I knew how to do this, but I was also not able to question it for long for another unknown reason. After both of those thoughts vanished mysteriously, I also knew that I could simply say the menu I wanted to open in my head, but that’s boring.

Name: Seraphine

Sex: Female

Class: Celestial Knight (UNIQUE)

Level: 1

HP: 70/70

MP: 56/56

Power:

Agility: 10

Intelligence: 7

Wisdom: 4

Vitality: 5

Endurance: 7

Unallocated: 10

A dark grey window popped up when I pressed the stats button. Next to each of the stats’ values was a plus button. Pressing the one on Intelligence, the attribute’s value went up, allocating an unallocated point.

The euphoria from seeing Female as my sex was almost uncontrollable, but I calmed down enough to allocate the rest of my stats before I reached the gate. I noticed quickly that my MP was the same as multiplying my Intelligence and Wisdom and then multiplying that by two. Seeing this, I guessed it was likely a lot more efficient to even out my Intelligence and Wisdom stats to get the most mana from it.

Glancing at my class, I wondered what that meant with only a few guesses but no answers. Thankfully, the answer came in the form of another grey text box moments later.

Celestial Knight

Unique

A one-of-one class granted to those the stars favor upon character randomization. Blessed by the stars, complexity is rewarded over all else. Being the sole Celestial Knight, you must unlock the secrets and represent the stars.

On level up, you gain:

+10% to Power, Agility, Endurance, and Vitality

My eyes widened as I read this. Represent the stars? I wasn’t sure what this implied, but staring at it won’t give me more information. One thing I did understand was the part about complexity, but I wasn’t sure how far that expanded. I knew that if my theory was correct, I would be able to form complex spells and skills easier than other players. I would have to experiment in the future, but for now, I moved my attention back to my HP and MP.

Checking for an MP situation with my HP, I saw that it was the same but with Endurance and Vitality. I grinned and evened out my Vitality to be 7, doing the same with my Intelligence and Wisdom to make them both 7. After that, my HP and MP were both 98. The issue with that was that I enjoyed having an excess of mana, so I invested 2 more in both Intelligence and Wisdom. With 1 remaining point, I invested it in Agility since I wanted it to be my main attribute with this character.

With that, I ended up with a staggering 162 MP. When I checked my menu earlier, I saw the ability creator, putting a mental note to check it out after I finished talking to the gate guards.

“Hi,” my voice caught as another wave of euphoria hit. Mentally slapping myself, I regained composure and cleared my throat before continuing. “I was hoping you could help me find the direction to the capital?”

One of the guards facing my side of the city looked at me before speaking, “Go through the other gate and follow the road. You should pass through about 3 towns, but after that, you’ll reach the capital.”

Not seeming to want to continue talking, I thanked them before turning around and heading back into the city. Guess I didn’t get the 50/50 roll this time.

Maneuvering through the crowds was easier the second time, but it was still slightly annoying. Though as I was walking, I admired the architecture of the place. Reaching the other gate, I didn’t talk to the guards as I walked out. My mind was too full of euphoria and happiness to stop and talk, almost hopping with each step as I left. A few meters in front of the gate, I received a message from my sister. She had no idea who I was but accepted the request, curious as I know her to be.

SuperLynn: Who are you?

Seraphine: Hi sis!

SuperLynn: Harry?-

There was more to that message than that, but my eyes became blurry the moment I saw that name. The pure euphoria I was feeling up to that point faded the moment she said it, though I didn’t blame her for that. I had engrossed myself so deep into this fantasy that it slapped me back to reality with one word. A frown appeared, replacing the previous cheek-to-cheek smile with the reality of my situation rearing its ugly head in the form of a mountain of metaphorical water. As it washed over me, so did the dread, the fear, and the uncertainty.

I hated my name, the fake shell of a body I was assigned at birth, and I hated my powerlessness at it all. My bottled-up emotions were overflowing, overwhelming me, and I couldn’t think straight. My parents’ comments on people like me didn’t help my rapidly-deteriorating mental state.

Why was I forced to live in a body I didn’t want? If the ‘merciful’ God exists, why would they want me to suffer like this? I screamed primary at myself at this moment, vaguely noticing the ground shaking below me, the sky going a deep red. Moments passed, then all I could see was darkness.

***

My eyes opened, and the clear, blue sky I saw before was replaced by the vast expanse of space. Stars were visible in any direction I looked, except for directly behind me. The biggest shock was the star in front of me, towering over me as if I was mere meters from its surface. Not only was I not being harmed, but in contrast, I felt vastly more powerful.

<You are a strange one, child. We do not understand what you are.>

I stepped back, a ripple effect forming wherever I placed my feet. “Who are you?”

<Who is not the correct word, child. We are the stars you see around you, the body you see in front of you. We are all of them, yet none of them. Your connection has forced us to combine intelligence to speak to you.>

“I see. Where am I?” I asked, still confused. The voice itself sounded like billions of voices combined into one, all of them into one; it was incredibly disorienting.

<You were brought to us in a spiritual state by an unknown entity who also was the entity responsible for saving you. In the future, we recommend using only what you can handle.>

Processing this, I understood that an unknown entity saved me from destroying myself. I also understood that a star, or rather a group of stars, was talking to me. What a lovely day I was having, maybe I was insane?

“Would I be able to speak to you in the future?” I asked.

<No matter where in the universe you are, you will feel our connection to you. We recommend keeping our energy inside of your body, however, or your true world may collapse if you influence the atmosphere with our energy.>

“Wait, are you saying I can use this power on Earth?” I questioned, wide-eyed as I waited for a response.

<Your Earth is in this universe, so indeed you can. We do not feel a god’s presence on this planet, so you have freedom there. However, the gods of the world you are in now are active. Be careful to not over-use your power until you are prepared, though the unknown entity has saved you from that this time.>

My eyes widened more and more as it spoke, emotions of happiness and fear of the gods of Monarch Rising in equal measure. Not only could I transition, but I could do almost anything I wanted on Earth.

“Does this mean that the world of Monarch Rising is real?” I asked worriedly. This would change a lot if so. I had been suspicious of the previously-unknown organization behind the game, but I chalked it up to a good team.

<Indeed. While you may not be able to use god-like powers on Earth quite yet, the higher in power you grow on the world of Fairo, the more power you gain on Earth. We suspect that some other unique classes have a similar ability, however.>

I nodded, thinking deeply. Not only did this mean I was eventually able to transition correctly, but the more I leveled in the game, the more I leveled in real life. Not only that, if more people chose unique classes, more people may get similar powers on Earth and become stronger than governments can handle; a scary development for all governments, indeed.

I had no plan of playing hero, though. I would intervene if it got out of hand, but otherwise, I wouldn’t help if it was outside my area. Anything the government could deal with, I would let them. Either way, I doubted there would be anything truly threatening governments until people reached level 50 in a unique class.

The next step is ensuring that Earth doesn’t get taken over by an evil, lucky player.

“Is there a way for me to make sure people can’t control or get too powerful on Earth?” I asked, looking back at the massive star in front of me.

Not long after, I got a response I was hoping to avoid.

<Become a God.>
