Waking up to the luxurious lacy canopy, my mind was filled with questions.

What happened?

Where is this?

Who am I?

Unfortunately, all these questions were only pushed far to the most corner of my brain, causing a lot of confusion that can not be explained.

"Nngh!” It was then, a strong stab suddenly hit the back of my skull, spontaneously making me groan a little, and was about to raise my hand to stroke my head - which for the second time surprised me, realizing the weight that prevented my hand from moving.

There's someone there.

A girl, sitting on a chair while leaning her entire upper body against the bed I was lying on, fell asleep using my arm as her pillow.

Who's she? Her face is smooth, her eyelashes are curled, her nose is sharp, and her hair is dark black while her skin is as pale as white. Even in her current position, I could tell she had a tall stature. Although I don't know where that confidence came from just now, one thing I do know, her presence gives me a familiar impression.

The strange impression made the hairs on my neck stand up, enough even to make my own body tremble instinctively.

"Ah, I'll get nervous if you keep staring at me that way you know.”

That was the third time I was surprised.

The girl lifted her head, giving a smirk as her ruby eyes softened into mine. She also brings her hand towards me, moving to touch my forehead- to which I subconsciously respond by sliding my head away.

“Uh? What is it?" She looks concerned, stopping her hand briefly in the air, which somehow makes my heart pump like crazy.

I shook my head, looking down to avoid her gaze. The girl also took my response as okay and proceeded to touch my forehead with the back of her hand.

Like an empty shell, her cold hands gave me the feeling of touching a lifeless body - a corpse. Which also made me think twice- since when have I ever touched one?

"Thank goodness, you're feeling better." The girl smiled again, this time looking relieved. She then stood pushing my shoulders, adjusting my lying position, and smoothing my pillow. "Tell me, does it still hurt anywhere? How about your head?"

“I- I'm fine…”

“Hmm… Are you sure?”

How hard are my words to believe? I thought, seeing her doubtful face and eyes that seemed to completely expose my lies. “No, nothing… I'm fine…” Of course, I wasn't to be outdone either. Bracing myself, I tried to convince her as if to challenge her to a fight.

“Fuu~ good then.” Feeling happy and smiling broadly, the girl gently stroked my head, came closer, and pressed her forehead directly to mine. "I'll get you something to eat, wait here like a good girl, okay?"

The touch, and the excessive skinship, I felt that taking things like that normally wasn't like the real me (though I couldn't even remember who I was), but for reasons I couldn't figure out myself, it didn't feel bad.

Even though the sinister impression of this girl hasn't disappeared, I just silently obey and nod at her words, waiting quietly for her to finally exit the room.

Lonely and alone.

Looking around, I noticed that the room I was currently in was quite spacious. Putting aside the luxurious bed I was in, there were several large flower vases with beautiful carvings here and there, subconsciously telling me that the girl shouldn't be an ordinary person, which was basically exactly what I suspected from the start.

Is she a rich kid or something? Then what exactly am I? Friend? But considering her treatment just now, it felt strange to assume that. Someone you can always talk to and touch without feeling awkward at all, I should be a member of her family, right?

Bewildered, I got up and sat up, scratching my head stubbornly, messing up my hair enough to reach my field of vision. As for my own hair, it was long enough to reach my shoulders, but in contrast to the dark black of that girl's hair, mine was more reddish-brown.

Now that I think about it, should I have looked at my own face? I know it's not certain that all family members have the same face but… At least I think there must be some certain resemblance, right?

Once again looking around, I found a mirrored table right beside a row of giant windows that seemed to lead to the veranda. Feeling unhurried but wanting to make sure, I was about to get off the bed when I felt something heavy on my right ankle.

CLANG!

It sounded like two metals clashing against each other. From under the blanket, my feet touched something cold, was it iron? I thought curiously while removing the blanket covering half of my body-- only to be taken aback by the sight I saw.

Sturdy chain, made of real iron, small and shining without rust. The chain had two rings for each end, while the first end seemed to fit perfectly with my ankles, the other hanging over one of the bed frames.

My mind stops there.

With my eyes fixed firmly on the silver chain that seemed to be very well cared for, blood immediately poured down from my head, stopping me from thinking about doing anything. Is this the meaning of the impression I got from that girl earlier?

Those eyes.

That smile.

All the treatment she gave just now.

Let alone family, I don't think you should just chain someone up?!

No, no… let's try to calm down here.

For example, in any case, what kind of reason would you have to put someone in chains, which of course, would be, from a normal point of view?

Huh? W-what did I actually say? In the first place, where did the notion that chaining someone up was normal come from?! No-no-no… I mean, I can't remember doing anything bad?! (I don't even remember what actually happened!)

Ah, for some reason, this incident reminds me of a rumor, a rumor about a criminal who didn't end up being sentenced to death because he forgot all his crimes, but instead of being released into a prison cell, that person instead became a patient in a psychiatric hospital. -- no, wait… Was it supposed to be a joke?

Now, isn't the situation somewhat similar to mine? Even that girl, her considerate actions should suit the image of a nurse in a hospital very well, right? Then what about this room? Am I getting too crazy to be hallucinating and wishing I was a princess in a fantasy world or something? -- Oh… Let's stop. All of that, even for negative thoughts, is far from common sense. What's more, I feel sorry for myself…

Even so…

Uwahh-- I hold my head, to be honest, there is great pain in there. It felt like thinking about all this any further would give me nothing but annoying migraines, that's why I stopped, trying to catch my breath by inhaling and exhaling it a few times.

When it started to calm down, I tried to get out of bed and walk towards the dressing table. Luckily, the chain was long enough to get me to the window, but any further than that or even towards the bedroom door, it seemed impossible.

I shook my head, not bothering to think about it anymore.

Turns to the mirror, without taking a seat. My eye catches sight of a young girl in a slightly revealing evening dress-- it's me. There, under my shoulder-length, reddish-brown hair, I have a face that is not round but quite full. my height? Can't say for sure, but I'm pretty sure it's not something I can be proud of.

I tried to recall the girl's face, gaunt with sharp eyes.

Her gentle smile returned to my head, and I immediately practiced it on myself through the mirror.

It's terrible.

But that way, I can at least be sure that we're not related by blood. But that means, I still haven't come to any conclusions.

“Haahh…” sat back down on the edge of the bed, and along with a long sigh, I immediately brought my whole body into the pleasures of the soft mattress. The clatter of the chains bothered me, but well, there's nothing I can do about that.

The confusion, fear, and curiosity inside me were still swirling around looking for a way out, giving me a feeling of uneasiness, but like that girl said, in the end, I could only 'wait like a good girl' until she came back.

“Haahh… Just, what exactly happened…”
