Chapter 3: 3 : A Storm

After reaching base camp, Max digs a hole for the berry bush. He places the bush carefully and fills in the surrounding dirt. Patting the dirt, A blue box appears!

Information for gardening enters his memory seamlessly. ‘Huh... this system is super convenient’ he thinks while scratching his head. He then drags over a rotted log and places the mushroom so it will take root. Tired from work he rests by the river and drinks some water. With his back a bit sore from sleeping on the ground last night, He collects a bunch of fallen pine needles to sleep on. He lays the needles out evenly on one side of his shed.

 

Deep gray clouds roll in from the distance, as distant cracks of thunder silences the forest. The air grows thick and palpable with anticipation. Max gathers firewood in his shed as the sky darkens. The slight patter of rain lasts only a few seconds until it begins hammering down. Max sighs in relief when the shed doesn’t leak. He hunkers down with the door left slightly ajar. Sitting with his back to the wall. Downpour obscures the river completely from view. Max pulls out his hatchet and picks up a small smooth stone and sharpens the edge.

He adjusts the angle of the rock and pressure. The information from the new class helps him greatly. By nightfall the hatchet is sharper than when he received it from the system. The edge will last longer than before, too. He puts the hatchet back into his inventory and smiles. The rain slows down to a slow rhythm as he dozes off.
