Proverbs

I brought pudding, a spoon, and boiled barley tea on a tray, and spread out drawing paper on the chabudai.

Mai was excitedly holding out a drawing in front of Shindo.

It was drawn last night.

"This is Mai's drawing! This is Rei-chan!"

"What...? I don't have such a beautiful dress like that."

"Huh! But this is Rei-chan!"

Mai doesn't mind at all.

Shindo hasn't moved at all.

It seemed as if they were talking to each other, and even though they seemed to be passing each other by, they were still having a conversation.

"That thing on your head is a jewel."

"It looks expensive."

"It's a present from Prince Charming, so it's all good."

It was realistic.

Still, it is surprising.

Despite her expressionless face, Shindo seemed very kind to children.

I don't mean to be rude..., but it is a hard figure to imagine from the impression I had of her in high school.

"I don't know the prince."

"Huh! Then you're going to meet him anytime soon! I hope so."

"I'm sure Mai-chan will meet him too. ...And what's this long, thin thing?"

I frowned when I saw Shindo pointing at me.

However, that has nothing to do with Mai.

"This? This is Rei-chan's home!"

"Home..., home?"

"Yes! It's a castle where the princess lives."

"It looks more like an apartment than a castle."

"Yeah! Onii-chan told me that a princess lives there! You're a princess, aren't you, Rei-chan?"

"...Jin-kun?"

"You live at the top of the stairs! Look, that big one!"

Mai pointed out the window.

Shindo was caught and looked at.

I turned my gaze in the same way, as well.

A 50-story tower apartment outside the window.

This is an inside story that only my little sister and I can tell.

Forgetting to put the tray down, I was about to interject, "No, that's just small talk....".

Shindo looked at me and crossed her arms as if to hug herself.

"...I'm sorry."

The obvious wariness is apparent.

The softness that I had felt earlier disappeared all at once.

"What happened…?"

"Before you eat that pudding, can you explain to me how you know where I live?"

Huh?

"...What?"

"I said, tell me how did you know I live on the top floor of that apartment building? I only gave the floor number to the school."

I spent a good ten seconds trying to understand.

"...Really?"

Can anyone give me a proverb to use in this situation?
