The Sixth Cup of Coffee Part 2

With a loud alarm ringing through her mind, Jiang Ying’s voice lowered and cursed out a dirty word. She got up quickly and looked around, looking for a place to hide.

Yun Xian noticed her actions and asked her, “What’s the matter?”

Jiang Ying had no time to think. The door was about to be pushed open. She glanced at Li Zhicheng, who was not far away, then looked back at Yun Xian. Her mind was blank and her heart was jumping out of her throat.

As the bell rang again, Jiang Ying just crouched down behind the counter.

She listened to the sound of Li Zhicheng’s leather shoes against the floor. She was nervously about to explode. She clutched Yun Xian’s trousers without realizing it. Her chest was heaving. She covered her mouth and did not let herself make a sound.

After a busy day, Li Zhicheng’s complexion had turned pale. “Give me a cup of lemon tea so I can keep living,” he said to Yun Xian.

Yun Xian glanced at the tea bag on the shelf faraway and said, “No, you can drink something else.”

Li Zhicheng did not believe it. “Is that possible?”

“Well, I forgot to get more. Drink something else.”

Li Zhicheng could only compromise. “Fine, make me a glass of sparkling water.”

Yun Xian looked at the refrigerator. It was obviously not in an area where he could move to now.

His eyes locked in on a coffee machine in front of him, Yun Xian asked without a change in his expression, “Only coffee, do you want it?”

Li Zhicheng, who had been begging investors all day, was still being treated like this. He became annoyed and slammed the table, he raised his voice and shouted, “Shit, is that the kind of service your shop has towards its customers? Are you doing it on purpose?”

Jiang Ying, who was curled up, was startled and her fingers holding onto him turned white.

Help! Why are you fighting?

It was terrible for Li Zhicheng to get angry, but Yun Xian was not afraid of him. He knew how to smooth things over with him. “Just drink coffee, I just learned to pour flowers.”

Hearing this, Li Zhicheng stared at him and examined him. He snorted and said, “Oh, if you want me to taste your skills, then I guess I will have to reluctantly drink coffee.”

Hearing Li Zhicheng grab a chair and sit down, Jiang Ying breathed a sigh of relief and loosened her hand that had been holding onto Yun Xian’s legs.

He was wearing khaki trousers, and the part she clenched onto was a little wrinkled. Jiang Ying stroked it gently.

Yun Xian felt the grip disappear and saw her small movement. He rubbed his nose with his hands to try and cover up the smile creeping from the corners of his lips.

The crisis had been temporarily relieved. Under the reception area, Jiang Ying took out her cell phone from her bag and stealthily pulled on Yun Xian.

Yun Xian looked down at her calmly. He coughed and the metal spoon fell to the ground from the desk.

The sharp sound alarmed Li Zhicheng, who looked at him. He saw nothing else and turned away. He continued to look down and play on his cell phone.

Yun Xian took a small step back and squatted down. He looked at Jiang Ying and mouthed, “What’s the matter?”

Jiang Ying showed him the words she had typed up: That’s my boss! He wasn’t here this afternoon, so I snuck out. Hell, I don’t know what’ll happen if he sees me here! My bonus will be gone! Help! Let me hide for a while!

After quickly scanning through the words on the screen, Yun Xian picked up the spoon on the ground and got up.

“Not going to the office today?” He asked Li Zhicheng.

Li Zhicheng replied, “I’ll go and have a look later. There are only a few hours left before work is over.”

Hearing this, Jiang Ying wanted to die.

Yun Xian glanced at Jiang Ying’s many changing expressions from the corners of his eyes. He pursed his lips to stop smiling.

He handed over the coffee he had just made and urged Li Zhicheng, “Come on, so this is what a lazy boss looks like?”

Li Zhicheng replied in a way that looked like he was in the right. “What’s wrong with the boss being lazy? I just don’t need to be lazy with the employees.”

Ironically being the lazy employee, Jiang Ying closed her eyes and silently recited a Buddhist mantra in her mind.

Fortunately, Li Zhicheng drank half of the cup of coffee and sat for about ten minutes before he left.

When the man disappeared from his sight, Yun Xian lowered his head and said, “He’s gone. Get up.”

Jiang Ying put her hands on the edge of the table and tried to stand up. Just as she was trying really hard, she was hit with the pins and needles feeling that quickly went up her legs.

“Ss!” She squatted awkwardly, not knowing whether to stand or not.

Yun Xian asked, “Is your leg numb?”

Jiang Ying frowned and nodded. She was ready to cry, but didn’t have any tears. When she moved, she would pull on the numbness and inhale with pain.

Yun Xian stepped forward to support Jiang Ying and gave her a hand. “Don’t worry, just stand for a while.”

Jiang Ying bit her lower lip and nodded. No matter how embarrassed she was, he could only stand firm with his help.

They stood strangely in place for three or four minute. The wait took a while before Jiang Ying tried to take a few steps forward. She felt fine, so she was ready to run out. “I’ll go first.”

Looking at her hurrying back, Yun Xian shouted, “Concentrate on your work, and I won’t cover for you next time.”

Jiang Ying waved, pushed open the door and ran out.

After a while, Yun Xian received Jiang Ying’s Wechat message.

Orange Sunset: I’m at the office!

See the Mountain: Your boss didn’t say anything about you, did he?

Orange Sunset: My colleague lied and said I went to the bathroom. Nothing happened!

See the Mountain: The colleague is nice.

Orange Sunset: Yeah, I bought her afternoon tea in return for helping me out.

See the Mountain: What about me?
