Nameless Captain of the Purple Orca, that’s what Sabrina Crook’s nickname is… As the most insignificant captain of the Magic Knight Squads, Sabrina is quite notorious to her fellow compatriots.
“Like what I was asking, where the hell is Philip!? Isn’t he Purple Orca’s Vice-Captain? Just leave me alone with my booze.”
Sabrina’s voice echoes in the Purple Orca’s headquarters. No one dares to raise their head afraid to get a reprimand from a noble of high standing.
Thanks to her connections with the royalty, she’s able to take hold of her Captain position. Some might say, it’s nepotism at work, but Sabrina has the apt qualifications and power to back it up.
Her only problem is… she’s too lazy.
When it comes to her own squad, she is uncaring and throws all of her work to Philip Jester, her newly appointed Vice-Captain. Now that her Vice-Captain is absent for a long time and the work is piling up, Sabrina takes it the man doesn’t want the position anymore.
“Who wants to be Vice-Captain? Xerx? You want?”
Xerx Lugner, a youth, with long lavender hair and of noble disposition respectfully bows at Sabrina. With a calm voice, he rejects Sabrina’s offer fully aware that his captain is just joking. “While I am thrilled, I’d rather not for the time being as there’s too much paperwork.” He weakly makes an excuse.
Sabrina appreciates the sarcasm, but she prefers it much more if she hears something different today as this was the umpteenth time Xerx rejects her offer. “So what? Is there any news today? Something that would get my mind off the annoying things.”
At her inquiry, Xerx starts frowning as he recalls a short memory of his.
“I believe Sir Philip is in need of assistance. The last time he left HQ, I realized he was acting weird.” Xerx adds with a reluctant expression.
Immediately, Sabrina left the Royal Capital on her magic broom. Standing balanced on top of it, she coolly torpedoes from the Purple Orca’s HQ to the skies.
The Jester, or Retsej as they were named in the past, have a weak standing as members of the nobility. It’s because of one reason— this family has a dark history with Devil Summoning.
There are many devil worshippers hiding in the shadows of the kingdom. Recently, there were reports of strong devils rampaging across the Clover Kingdom. Not that it concerns Sabrina, but if one of her subordinates does have a hand in this, the implications will be severe.
Sabrina’s post as Purple Orca’s Captain will be in jeopardy, and worse of all, she won’t be able to spend the rest of her life leisurely at her Vice-Captain’s expense. “Shit, Philip, what are you up to? It’s not even a month until you became vice-captain!”
It was a week ago when Philip asks her for a leave of absence. At that time, Sabrina isn’t suspicious of him as Philip was extremely careful of his actions while in front of her.
There was no solid evidence proving that Philip was summoning devils. Though the Jesters weren’t the only devil-summoning families, Philip as her subordinate is Sabrina’s responsibility. Moreover, her hunch is telling her that something is wrong.
Sabrina recalls the missing bundle of papers on her desk yesterday. Dark scripts of a distant land, all of them should be in the evidence locker and not idly lying on her desk. Because of her carelessness and laziness, a tragedy might come to this world... iF not this world, at least to Philip.
Summoning devils, the thought sends a shiver down her spine. Sabrina is aware of the strict ban on devil summoning as per Kingdom Laws.
In fact, there are many clans with devil-summoning traditions but that was all in the past especially after the 1st Wizard King Lumiel Silvamillion Clover strongly cracks on the devil summoning.
In no time at all, Sabrina arrives at the Jesters' estate, the Retsej Barony.
The smell of blood reaches her nose causing her to frown. “Hello, anyone there!?”
The Retsej Barony has become a ghost town. Even though it is bright high noon, there is this strong ominous feeling. Suddenly, from the interspersing shadows of an alleyway, Philip appears while clicking his tongue. “Tsk, tsk, tsk…”
Answering Sabrina’s words is Philip Jester carrying the headless carcasses of two Purple Orca Magic Knights. “Hello, their captain.”
Sabrina looks over the two bloodied robes of the subordinates she sent two days ago. “What have you done, Philip?” It looks like her hunch was right.
Philip Jester unceremoniously drops the dead bodies of his colleagues. “It’s for the Retsej Clan, oh Captain.” His words signal the start of the battle.

Sabrina Crook unleashes her magic power to the maximum anticipating her Vice-Captain to attack. However, that didn’t happen… as… Philip Jester falls to the ground thanks to a sword piercing him from behind.
From Philip Jester’s behind, his own son, Aaron Jester stands with a determined gaze. When his gaze shift to Sabrina, imploring then replaces the overflowing determination.
Dark hair, crimson eyes, and a slim physique. Aaron looks at Sabrina, trying to get all of the power from his lungs... he then begs her. “P-p-lease… Sa-ve me…”
Sabrina approaches Aaron only to realize the young man is experiencing severe magic deprivation. Carrying Aaron over her shoulder like a sack of rice, Sabrina rides her broom in a hurry.
The clouds are aplenty, and the sun is beautifully decorating the lands below with its golden shimmer. However, Sabrina can’t appreciate any of that as she prays in her heart for the well-being of the young Jester on her shoulder.
With incredible speeds, she races against time toward Purple Orca’s HQ. Arriving at HQ, she immediately starts calling to her people. “Hurry, bring a healing mage here!!”
Sabrina shouts at the top of her lungs and it hits her, Purple Orca doesn’t have any healers. “What kind of lame-ass squad is this!? We don’t have any healers? Are we really a Magic Knight Squad?”
Xerx who was busily conversing with his clique stands up at the captain’s presence. Aware of his Captain’s personality, Xerx points out where she should go. “Owen, find Owen.”
Without wasting any second, Sabrina bolts out from the HQ. Owen, a relatively famed healer, that’s the guy she should be looking for.
Because she doesn’t have this Owen character’s address, she has to fly for some time until she finally found him… at a certain restaurant. “Owen, right!? Heal this guy, he’s hurt!!” She hurriedly calls to him while carrying the youth on her shoulders.
Owen was just about to push another spoon of his food to his mouth when Sabrina, like a lunatic, start rampaging into the restaurant. With professionalism, Owen starts checking on the young man.
Standing from his seat, he approaches Sabrina and expertly checks on Aaron who was sleeping tightly. “He looks magic deprived, sit him here. We’ll feed him for now. Food created with magic can alleviate the symptoms.”
“O-okay, then?” Sabrina complains to Owen. “Damn, to think a magic knight captain will end up panicking like this.”
“I don’t even know you,” Owen points out the cruel truth. “But a magic knight captain?” He echoes in doubt.
Sabrina knows how unknown she truly is, but hearing this from someone directly, greatly hurts her pride.
Sabrina continues feeding Aaron. By manually moving Aaron’s jaw, then using magic to push the food to Aaron’s throat with magic, Sabrina was able to mechanically sustain Aaron’s health against the threat of magic deprivation.
Approaching her 30s, Sabrina never had a child as she has no interest in romance. By feeding Arron like this, Sabrina momentarily imagines that this is what having a son is like.
The thought of what happened in Retsej Barony occurs to her mind, just how in the world did Philip Jester become like that? Sabrina recalls her days while with Philip. The Vice-Captain tells her of stories of how much he loves his family, especially his son.
Suddenly, Owen raises his voice as he finds something curious. “Miss Sabrina Crook, can I ask you something?”
“What is it? By the way, Purple Orca doesn’t have any healers right now…”
“Did you not think, that maybe you could have just gone to another squad to ask for a healer? From how I see it, you wasted a lot of your time just by finding me…”
“…”
Screw Xerx Lugner.
