Christmas Extra: Everyone’s Favourite Little Strawberry

JUNE 10, 2022 ~ KAHKA

At a small playground, a bright-yellow cabbage white [butterfly] was drifting in the slight winds, weakly flying around.

The weather was very good. Under the setting of the blue skies and white clouds, was a oil painting-like scenery- the butterfly was a rapeseed flower, unstably descending onto a tender little hand.

The owner of the small hand absentmindedly stared at the bright-yellow little butterfly on their finger, and the tender face even had an ignorant and dazed expression.

The child’s profile was much more cute and mellow compared to an adult’s lines.

This little kid’s forehead was plump, the tip of their nose was pretty and straight, making the profile from the forehead to the chin rise and fall delicately and joyfully, and very much had a charm of a small little beauty.

It could be imagined that in the future when they grow up, their facial beauty would not be that bad off. He was on this side sitting on a swing underneath the sun dazing off by himself, and not far off was a bunch of small kids playing around, when someone called out to him.

“Little Strawberry.”

Wen xiao’Ming turned his head to look, and the butterfly on his fingertips also flew off.

Xiao’Yao that was now the same height as him was leaning against the swing pole looking at himself, looking for who-knows-how-long since the beginning. Xiao’Yao’s expression still was a bit awkward, but faced with Little Strawberry who he liked very much, he pretended to act normal while speaking, “I’ll help you push the swing!”

He wanted to play with Little Strawberry. Only the two of them playing together.

Little children truthfully did not know to conceal themselves. Xiao’Yao’s pair of inky black eyes, when looking at Wen xiao’Ming, was full of fondness.

Wen xiao’Ming did not answer for the time being. He did not know just what kind of situation he was in right now.

Was he in a dream?

There was only this explanation. He still remembered that in the moment before, he was clearly still a corporate slave swimmingly over-timing for Christmas’ plans and Winter Solstice’s labour, making him so tired he accidentally dozed away. Who knew that when he opened his eyes again, the little strawberry would shrink from an eight-foot man into the current short-handed and short-legged tiny little strawberry.

And was even classmates with class one’s little kids.

Just in the time he was in a daze, xiao’Yao saw that Little Strawberry did not give a response after a long time, and even thought he was not willing to play with him. Xiao’Yao used up all his brainpower to think of something to say, and his fingers already started clutching the edge of his clothes.

Wen xiao’Ming discovered it, and hurriedly opened his mouth, “Xiao’Yao, want to play? I’ll help you push!”

The one who opened his mouth was the old Little Strawberry. And yet, today was not yesterday- right now, they were two face-to-face same-aged little beansprouts.

Xiao’Yao saw he was not unhappy, and as though he had finally had a breath of relief, said with a blush, “I want to help you push.”

As he said this, he enthusiastically circled to Wen Ming’s back.

Wen Ming’s two small and short legs were not enough to reach the ground. He watched the zealous xiao’Yao at his own back, then extremely considerately thought he’ll play a bit then change out.

He could feel xiao’Yao’s hands touch his back. This one push made the person fly up before they got mentally ready, breaking free from gravity, and flying towards the sky.

What not being mentally ready meant, was that Wen Ming seemed to not have played on the swings for a very, very long time.

When he was young, he played on the swings not that many times. Typically, he played the role of helping people push the swing, and after growing up, there was no need to say.

Gusts of cool breezes quickly blew past the face, and instantly blew the child’s fine and soft hairs to one side, and the stimulation of the body instantly soaring up and the weightlessness surprised Wen xiao’Ming into a giggle.

Being a kid is so fun!

He still did not forget his own goal, and after playing a bit, he hurriedly stopped, and wanted to let xiao’Yao play.

Yet xiao’Yao did not move, turned bashful for a bit, and stood there with his eyes shining while asking him, “Little Strawberry, am I your bestest friend in the nursery?”

Wen xiao’Ming burst out in laughter, as expected of you, victor xiao’Yao. At this moment, Wen Ming’s mental age seemed to regress back- he first tenderly stretched out his tone, and made an “en?” sound, and asked a rhetorical question of the soul, “You would really let me play?”

The number of swings at the nursery were fixed, and just like how monks were many with little porridge, there were many young children and few swings, thus, it was the top most popular activity all year round. When the kids played the swings, they took turns, not long after the first person played, there would be a second person coming up patting their shoulders saying it’s time to change out.

Who knew xiao’Yao would be extremely firm, “All for you!”

But it was not like he wanted to make things hard for him either. Wen xiao’Ming only wanted to tease xiao’Yao, and then free the seat for him.

But Wen xiao’Ming also suddenly discovered something at this time- he had occupied this swing for a good while, and did not see any little kid coming over to change with him the entire time.

What is it, how could no one inquire about a tempting game such as the swings? He remembered even the neighbouring seat’s kid changed out with a group of people already. But there would be some coming over to watch him play the swings- the small little people crouched not far off, but only watched, not play. Each of them was like this.

Ah? Has he reincarnated into a nursery school bully?

No way! To validate this finding, he randomly caught a passing Coda who was holding his head with both hands.

Coda honestly and timidly spoke, “When I play this, I will fall down.”

Coda did his best to describe the feeling of the face hitting the floor, “Pa-chi.”

Wen xiao’Ming, “…. Is that so.”

Wen xiao’Ming pulled another small animal to the swings again.

Carl the little Hedgehog bashfully pulled the swing from the other side over to Little Strawberry to play with too.

Xiao’Ha, “Little Shawbewwy, can I use my head to help you push the swing?”

Not one was cooperative. The little kids did not understand what humility was, but because of the little strawberry’s summons, they circled around him, as if they liked watching Little Strawberry sit on this seat.

Wen xiao’Ming did not understand, could it be that this bunch of brats wanted to watch him play rather than play it themselves!?

Xiao’Yao urged him with sparkling eyes, “I’ll help you push!”

Wen xiao’Ming did not understand, “Why must I be the one to sit?”

Xiao’Yao spoke with confidence, “Because…… because this is the rabbit’s exclusive seat!”

Your excuse can deceive little kids, but it can’t deceive me. Wen xiao’Ming turned around, and his gaze found a cute xiao’Mi standing by the side.

He looked at xiao’Mi, and xiao’Mi was also looking at him.

Xiao’Mi, “Meh?canto: what”

Wen xiao’Ming: ???

What is all this! Wen Ming couldn’t either cry or laugh, and at this time, just about understood what this bunch of kids meant.

A swing only for him was the manifestation of love from the young kids. Little Strawberry once again sat upon this seat like a moon being surrounded by all the stars.

Occasionally being doted on by the kids this once, felt…… quite nice.

After all, he would definitely not be able to experience this in his childhood years. If it was the usual, he might be unable to have an easy conscience to accept it, but in a dream, Wen xiao’Ming played with the swings under everyone’s gaze once again, with his heart all warm.

But a bit of an interlude happened in between.

“This seat is our class’!” A small chubby kid grabbed one of the ropes of the swing in one hand, “You already played long enough!”

Wen xiao’Ming felt like this bear of a child was a bit familiar. He went blank, and soon released the hand grabbing the swing, “Oh, okay.”

This spot was originally everyone’s, as long as he let out the seat, their class’ kids could play too.

He was about to brush his back and stand up out of habit, and give the spot that was originally his to the other person. Only this time, just when his body moved, it got pressed back.

He was still not accustomed to this three-headed body of his right now. A little person had short hands and legs, didn’t know where their center of gravity was, and once pressed by a kid’s hands, would be pressed back.

Wen xiao’Ming: Stupefied.
