Chapter 36: Speechless, how can someone be this coquettish?
When Xu Sui woke up, she found herself lying on a hospital patient bed, and her surroundings were just snow-white walls. Xu Sui struggled to try to get up, but Liang Shuang hurriedly stopped her: “Ai, don’t move, you’ll shift the needle and cause bleeding.”
After speaking, Liang Shuang came over to help her get up and stuffed a pillow behind her waist.
When Xu Sui saw that it was her roommate, disappointment flashed in her eyes, and she raised her eyelashes: “Shuang Shuang, how come it’s you?”
“The Great God called me to come over.”
“Huh?”
“Did you know that you didn’t eat anything for a day and fainted from hypoglycemia? He has been watching over you since he brought you to the hospital. Later, he seemed to have some urgent family matters and had no choice but to leave,” Liang Shuang said excitedly, “So then he called me to come over and asked me to take good care of you.”
Xu Sui’s dark eyelashes quivered, and she didn’t say a word.
“Okay, after the IV drips, eat the sharkfin porridge that Zhou Jingze bought, as well as the red dates and pumpkin soup. There’s also some sweets,” Liang Shuang sat there and pointed to the things on the table, “He told me to watch you eat and make sure you finish everything.”
Xu Sui looked at the big pile of stuff on the table that Jingze bought; she pursed his lips and said nothing. Fortunately, the drip was quickly finished, and with a bitter face, Xu Sui ate the food one after another under Liang Shuang’s deadly gaze. In the end, she was unable to say a word, and Liang Shuang reluctantly let her go.
After the glucose infusion, Xu Sui packed up her things. She subconsciously touched her pocket and found that the silver ring she was going to give to Sheng Nanzhou was missing.
“Xiao Shuang, did you see a ring here? The one we bought together before.”
“No, I didn’t see it, maybe you lost it somewhere.” Liang Shuang replied.
Xu Sui wrinkled his nose, and her tone was mixed with pity: “Maybe.”
After returning to the dormitory at night, Xu Sui finished washing up and turned on her phone which was off for a long time. During this time, ZJZ sent three messages:
【Feeling much better? 】
【My girl isn’t texting me back. 】
Xu Sui’s eyelashes moved, and she didn’t mention the matter again, replying in the dialog box:【Feeling much better. 】
She obviously didn’t mention it again, but two minutes later, Zhou Jingze knew what she was thinking about and took the initiative to talk about it: 【I removed her. 】
【There’s nothing between me and her. 】
【I despise her. 】
【Yi Yi, I was wrong. 】
Zhou Jingze’s sudden softness caught Xu Sui by surprise, and these words made her feel more secure. After a while, she replied 【En. 】
When this matter was almost over, Miss Hu Qianxi finally went back to school. For some unknown reason, Xu Sui felt that Hu Qianxi had lost a lot of weight. Her face was pale, and she had lost some baby fat on her face, making her eyes look bigger.
“Xixi, why do I feel you got thinner?” Xu Sui asked.
Speaking of this, the eldest lady had a sorrowful expression, and she looked at her shiny fingernails and said, “It’s because a cook in my family asked for leave. The new auntie cooks so salty that I don’t even want to lift my chopsticks.”
“Did I lose weight?” Hu Qianxi touched her face and said happily, “Then I’m so happy.”
After Hu Qianxi and Xu Sui chatted for a while, the conversation changed: “Baby Sui, I heard that you and my uncle quarreled.”
Xu Sui hesitated for a moment, and then nodded, “En.”
“I heard the general gist of the story from Sheng Nanzhou. Liu Sijin is really one of the best white lotus flowers in Beijing, full of green tea,” Hu Qianxi said. She did a manicure, and every time she gestured in the air like a weapon, “If I was there, I would’ve definitely tear her to pieces and give her a hard time hearing from my fists.”
“It’s okay,” Xu Sui recalled the scene that day and paused, “I just think I worry too much.”
Just a woman sitting next to him, and she couldn’t stand the slightest gesture of intimacy.
Hu Qianxi shook her head: “You’re right, men are so cheap! Let me tell you, don’t take the initiative in the future. You can care about it but don’t show it, pretend you know!”
“But I’m on your side. My uncle has been spoiled, and you can fix that bad temper of his.” Hu Qianxi said.
Xu Sui nodded understandingly.
On Wednesday night, Sheng Nanzhou posted a two-day and one-night ticket to Beishan Ski Resort that they won in the school competition last year, along with a message: 【Did everyone just remember something? 】
Zhou Jingze: 【? 】
Da Liu: 【Oh shit, I remember after we won, we didn’t go because of exams. 】
Sheng Nanzhou: 【Bingo, it will expire in a month and a half, go go? 】
The eldest lady immediately raised her eyebrows: 【Hand raised! I definitely want to go. 】
Zhou Jingze: 【… Are you sure? 】
Hu Qianxi: 【Why wouldn’t I! Don’t I have you? 】
Da Liu: 【Sign up, more people more lively. 】
Xu Sui exited the chat and was about to ask Zhou Jingze whether to go or not. She remembered what Hu Qianxi taught her that girls shouldn’t be too proactive, so she didn’t ask Zhou Jingze and said in the group:【I’m going. 】
Less than a minute later, Zhou Jingze, who had not responded at all, suddenly appeared in the chat:【I’m going too. 】
The group planned to meet up to go to the ski resort on the weekend. In late November, there was another strong drop in temperature. When they woke up in the morning, the evergreen leaves on the roadside were crumbling under the pressure of thick ice crystals. The ground was sprinkled with transparent crystals, slippery and wet.
When Xu Sui and Hu Qianxi appeared at the meet-up arm in arm, she realized that several people were going to the ski resort this time. One of them, she vaguely remembered, was Qin Jing, who pretended to be a senior to ask for her number that day.
It was cold, so everyone hurried onto the bus. Xu Sui was at the back of the line, and a tall figure flashed over, startling Xu Sui.
Qin Jing greeted warmly, “Sister Xu, long time no see.”
Xu Sui nodded in shock, and was about to speak when a lazy voice interjected, his dark eyes pressed a little sullenly: “See your mom.”
Xu Sui turned her head to look over and found that Zhou Jingze, who was late, appeared behind them. He was wearing a black jacket and short boots, with a straight neck making him look neat and handsome. He pulled the zipper to the top, covering his cold, hard lower jaw, revealing a pair of dark and deep eyes.
At this moment, he was chewing gum, casting glances at Qin Jing.
“No, Master Zhou, I—” Qin Jing explained.
Zhou Jingze smiled, patted Qin Jing’s back, and threw a handful of snow at his neck off guard. The ice quickly stuck to the back of his neck and slid all the way down to his tailbone.
Qin Jing was smiling, but as if in Sichuan Opera, his expression immediately changed and he let out a terrifying scream, jumping up and down like an elder doing a disco dance.
Zhou Jingze was holding back his laughter at first, but he couldn’t help it later. His chest trembled with laughter, and his shoulders were shaking violently. Qin Jing saw that the initiator was still mocking him unrestrainedly.
Qin Jing made a move to murder him, but Zhou Jingze smiled and took the opportunity to dodge. When he passed by Xu Sui, his sleeve wiped the back of her hand.
It was a very light pass, and Xu Sui could smell the basil on him.
Everyone was almost on. Xu Sui was the last one to get on. She caught a glimpse of Zhou Jingze sitting in the last row and was about to walk up to him, but was pressed by Hu Qianxi, who was sitting on the edge of the aisle, to a seat by the window and winked at her.
Xu Sui had to sit down. She then took out her earbuds to listen to songs and leaned against the window, staring out in a daze. She and Zhou Jingze had made up a long time ago, but for some reason, there was still an awkward atmosphere between them.
There was an empty seat next to Xu Sui, and Sheng Nanzhou was doing roll calls. The bus was noisy, and she took off her earbuds without hearing a single song.
Qin Jing sat down beside her and filled with enthusiasm, he waved his earbuds at her: “Let’s share good songs together.”
Xu Sui’s dark eyes moved. She then took off the other white earbud and handed it to Qin Jing. Her tone was always good-tempered: “Then you listen.”
Qin Jing: “…”
How did he bump into a straight-iron male?
Qin Jing had to work hard to find a topic. One second he said that a girl like her is impressive for enduring hardships to study medicine, and the next second he started boasting about the fun things he did in school.
Xu Sui is more polite so while the other party speaks, she listens patiently and looks at him with her long eyelashes. Occasionally, she responds with a sentence or two.
From a distance, the atmosphere of the two chatting was quite harmonious.
Qin Jing sat next to Xu Sui and patted his thigh: “Sister, let me tell you—”
Before he could finish speaking, someone patted Qin Jing’s shoulder. Not even waiting for him to say a word, Zhou Jingze was taller than Qin Jing and directly picked up his back collar, carrying him away. This caused Qin Jing to cough: “I can walk by myself…”
After Qin Jing was driven away, the seat caved gently. Zhou Jingze sat down, rested his head on the back seat, and closed his eyes.
He felt more comfortable, and unsure if it was intentional or not, Zhou Jingze’s thighs were pressing against Xu Sui’s skirt. The fabrics were rubbing against each other, and their thighs touched her from time to time. The temperature boiling hot.
It made her unable to move.
Xu Sui tried to pull her clothes out, but he didn’t move.
In desperation, Xu Sui had to gently tug at his sleeve. Zhou Jingze opened his eyes to look at her. The little girl complained a little: “You’re creasing my clothes.”
“Really?” Zhou Jingze raised his eyebrows and glanced at her. After lifting his legs, Xu Sui immediately rescued her clothes. She looked down and tried to tidy up her clothes.
Zhou Jingze suddenly leaned over, his hot breath landing on Xu Sui’s ears. It made her feel itchy that she ducked sideways; a voice carrying a smile rang beside her ear:
“I thought you were going to ignore me the entire time.”
Xu Sui’s ears started to turn red again and when he saw it, Zhou Jingze closed his eyes, sat up straight, and closed his eyes lazily again. The bus moved forward slowly. The window was not closed tightly enough that there was a small gap. As the cold wind poured in, Xu Sui sneezed.
Zhou Jingze opened his eyelids and looked at her with his deep eyes that carried a hint of observation. Xu Sui was wearing very thin clothes today, a white horn-button lamb wool jacket, a black and white plaid skirt, and white stockings. Her face was a little pale, and her eyelashes and the tip of her nose were freezing red.
“Cold?” Zhou Jingze asked her.
“A little bit.” Xu Sui replied.
Actually, it’s extremely cold, okay? Xu Sui was already afraid of the cold. Her upper body was fine, just that her legs were a little cold. She was a little embarrassed to be seen by Zhou Jingze, and if she knew earlier, she wouldn’t have gone out today in this outfit.
Zhou Jingze retracted his gaze away from her, and got up suddenly, walking to the front of the bus. He supported himself with one arm on the bar and lowered his head to talk to the driver.
After a while, Zhou Jingze returned to sit next to Xu Sui. Unsure where he got a blanket from, he leaned over and covered it over Xu Sui’s legs tightly. Then he took out two hand warmers from his pocket.
Zhou Jingze bit the package, tore open a hole and put it inside a hand warmer egg container. He reached out and handed it over: “Hold it.”
Xu Sui opened her eyes slightly and asked, “Where did you come from?”
“Before you came, I think Aunt Sheng stuffed it into my jacket two days ago.” Zhou Jingze twitched the corners of his mouth, his tone casual.
The reason why Xu Sui wore this outfit was that Hu Qianxi kept nagging her in the morning and said: “Sui Sui baby, although I taught you that in a relationship, girls should pretend that they don’t care, you still need to dress yourself up so that his eyes can’t leave you.”
“Let me tell you, men are visual animals, so don’t wear long trousers! Don’t waste your long legs.”
Xu Sui wasn’t sure why she listened to Hu Qianxi’s suggestion and wore this outfit out today that she regretted it a little now. Zhou Jingze didn’t compliment her or even spare more glances at her, but instead, she was embarrassed in front of him.
Zhou Jingze leaned over like an old father, and buttoned Xu Sui’s jacket one by one; their breath opposite from each other. He casually looked at her, as if reading her thoughts at a glance, and said:
“You don’t have to dress like this. The woman that I like is pretty no matter what.”
—
They were on the bus for two hours in the morning, and Xu Sui didn’t know when it arrived. She fell asleep in the middle and woke up to find herself leaning on Zhou Jingze’s shoulder.
Zhou Jingze didn’t say anything; he held her hand and walked out of the bus. Xu Sui secretly glanced at their clasped hands, the corners of his lips curved slightly.
Sheng Nanzhou and Hu Qianxi were like two lively babies, laughing and scoffing the entire time. As soon as Xu Sui saw Sheng Nanzhou, she thought of the ring she lost.
Xu Sui’s pinky finger brushed against Zhou Jingze’s broad palm, and with a light touch, his throat tickled. He held down her pinky finger instead; his voice a little hoarse:
“What?”
“Ah, did you see my ring? The one I was going to give to Sheng Nanzhou.”
Zhou Jingze narrowed his eyes and said, “No.”
“Oh.”
For some reason, Xu Sui felt that his expression was a little cold.
A group of people got off the bus vigorously, chatting and laughing all the way. They booked two rooms at the guesthouse near the Beishan Ski Resort for rest and storage. The group planned to set up tents on the top of the mountain at night.
The yellow Japanese-style guesthouse was located at the foot of the snow-capped mountains. With dark red roofs, French windows, tatami mats, beige furniture, and a lucky waving cat at the entrance, it was very cute.
At noon, a group of people stayed at the guesthouse to rest. Sheng Nanzhou packed his things in the room, and he turned the entire place upside down but still couldn’t find a hand warmer in his clothes. He trembled and asked Zhou Jingze for a hand warmer. Zhou Jingze rolled his eyes and didn’t say anything.
“Dude, I heard it on the bus this morning. It turns out that my mother loves you so much. Please give me a hand warmer, either way, you’re not afraid of the cold.” Sheng Nanzhou contracted his neck.
Master Zhou only wears two layers of clothes in winter and even drinks ice water. Moreover, he has never been seen to cry cold.
“No.” Zhou Jingze threw down a word.
“No way didn’t say in the morning—”
“The clothes are there, wear whatever you want,” Zhou Jingze pointed to the clothes on the bed, his tone impatient, “Don’t force me to beat you.”
Sheng Nanzhou was not afraid of Zhou Jingze’s threats, so he rushed up to him. He hugged him and said, “Didn’t my mother give it to you, so just give it to me—”
“Your mother didn’t give it to me.” Zhou Jingze couldn’t bear to give him a slap, and turned around and left.
Sheng Nanzhou stood in the same place with a puzzled look. But he told Xu Sui that he happened to have it in his clothes this morning. So he knew that Xu Sui had cold hands and feet in winter and especially bought it and kept it with him?!
