Chapter 40: Haven’t been replying to text messages.
The two-day and one-night trip to Beishan Ski Resort officially ended. Xu Sui was so tired that her head felt dizzy. She went back and slept deeply that night, and didn’t get up until noon the next day.
Xu Sui got out of bed and felt that her legs were still aching. When she just washed up, she ran into Liang Shuang, who came back from outside. Liang Shuang carried a paper bag and hummed a song all the way into the dorm, looking like she was in a good mood.
“Wow, my timing is just right.” Liang Shuang put the paper bag on the table and began to take out the food one by one. “Sui Sui, come eat.”
Xu Sui looked over, and Liang Shuang was roughly opening the plastic containers. The table was full of food: curry beef brisket rice, golden pineapple buns, and fragrant Borscht soup.
These were what she usually likes to eat.
Xu Sui looked puzzled: “I don’t remember asking you to help me get something to eat.”
“Zhou Jingze asked me to buy it.” Liang Shuang broke apart the chopsticks for her; her voice was bright and clear, and she gestured to Xu Sui a number, “He gave me this large amount of tips, so I immediately ran out of campus to buy it, hehe.”
“He cares about you a lot, Sui Sui.” Liang Shuang said.
Xu Sui casually tied her hair behind her with a hair tie and took the chopsticks. Her face felt a little hot when she sat down. After Liang Shuang delivered the food, she received a call and ran out again.
Xu Sui was the only one left in the dorm. She took a mouthful of rice with a spoon; the brisket was very soft, and the potatoes were glutinous. The temperature of the hot cocoa next to her was also just right.
His care and thoughtfulness all seemed so fitting.
Xu Sui took a photo of the food and sent it, with a text:【Ate it. ( ̄▽ ̄)】
After a minute, the phone screen lights up; ZJZ replied: 【Was it good?】
Xu Sui answered: 【Very yummy, but how did you know I slept in.】
ZJZ: 【Guessed.】
The two chatted aimlessly for a while. After dinner, Xu Sui went to class, and in her free time, she went to the library as usual. It seemed like nothing changed in her life. But actually, the little details did actually change.
After going to the Beishan Ski Resort or because of the confession game they played that night, they became a lot closer. Zhou Jingze often came to school to find her and accompanied her to do homework or eat.
While Xu Sui does review questions in the corner of the library, Zhou Jingze often plays on his phone, occasionally slipping into her sweater and reaching in, kneading lightly or hard at times. Xu Sui held the pen for a while, but after her heart was jolted, there was a heavy line on the paper.
Zhou Jingze likes to touch her a lot, sucking her neck while saying unrestrained words, with a ruffian and dirty energy.
At night, Zhou Jingze sent her back to the dormitory, and the two kissed again during their conversation, but Xu Sui was thin-faced, and it was easy for her to feel embarrassed. Zhou Jingze leaned against the tree by her, his tall and straight figure enveloping her; the shadow of the tree trembled, swaying the reflection of the white moonlight.
Zhou Jingze leaned over her neck, the tip of his nose sniffed the milky scent on her body, and said hoarsely: “I’ll be scuffed to death by you sooner or later.”
Xu Sui pushed his chest away. Her eyes were a little red from being bullied, and she hurriedly tidied her hair and clothes, asking, “Do I have anything on my body?”
“Yes.” Zhou Jingze looked at her and spoke slowly.
“Where?” Xu Sui looked blankly.
Zhou Jingze pressed over, holding the back of her head; his tongue made a hickey on her neck.
Xu Sui immediately pulled the zipper of her jacket higher, revealing a pair of round eyes: “Good… good night.”
After she finished speaking, she ran away. The whistling wind wrapped her ears, and a very light laughter came from behind; Zhou Jingze in a lazy tone: “See you tomorrow, Yi Yi.”
Because of Zhou Jingze’s words, Xu Sui began to look forward to the arrival of the next day, but she didn’t expect to be met with disappointment. After a day of class, Xu Sui returned to the dormitory, took off her scarf, and immediately checked to see if Zhou Jingze had sent her any messages.
There was nothing.
Unable to hold it in the end, Xu Sui sent a message: 【Where have you been today? 】
Xu Sui felt a little gloomy that she almost used facial cleanser as a toothpaste when brushing her teeth at night. After changing into her pajamas and climbing into bed, Xu Sui kept holding onto her phone. Even after the bedroom lights were turned off, she kept holding onto her phone and waited for Zhou Jingze’s reply.
Xu Sui waited even when her eyelids were sleepy, but the screen never lit up, and finally, she fell asleep holding the phone.
The next day, Xu Sui was in the lab all morning. When she took off her white coat and changed clothes about to leave, she touched her phone in her pocket and found that Da Liu had called her several times.
Xu Sui called back, and the call was connected shortly after. Da Liu’s voice was hastily and urgent: “Hey, good sister, you finally answered your phone.”
“I was in the lab since the morning; not convenient to pick up any calls,” Xu Sui turned off the lights as she exited the lab and asked, “What’s the matter?”
“It’s about Zhou Jingze,” Da Liu asked anxiously on the phone, “Sister, is it convenient for you to come to the school gate? It’ll be faster to tell you in person.”
“Okay, I’ll be there right away.” After Xu Sui hung up the phone, she unconsciously fastened her pace and walked towards the school gate.
As soon as she walked out of the gate, the cold wind was like an ice blade, causing pain against her face. Xu Sui subconsciously tightened her coat and walked a few roads. At a glance, she saw Da Liu, standing at the front of the campus gate; his figure was tall and slightly chubby.
Xu Sui walked in front of Da Liu, and spoke against the blowing wind, sounding muffled: “What happened?”
The two of them switched to a new location to talk, and in front of an air deflector, the wind immediately became quieter. Da Liu rubbed his ice-cold ears and asked, “Have you been in contact with Boss Zhou in the past two days?”
Xu Sui’s eyelashes drooped when he mentioned this, and her mood subconsciously dampened: “No.”
The two of them were clinging together the night before and were extremely intimate, but the next second, he didn’t say anything and disappeared completely.
“Damn it, Master Zhou indeed went far, playing missing and not even caring about his girlfriend.” Da Liu spat.
“Missing?” Xu Sui’s eyes widened.
“We’re learning flight technology and we have different exams at each stage, right? Sometimes the school will repeat the test, but yesterday we had a psychological exam. During the day, he did well; whether it was speed perception, active memory, or spatial orientation, all he got was A+, but then when we had the night simulation flight exam, he disappeared.”
Hearing the word “night”, Xu Sui seemed to know something; she raised her face: “Sheng Nanzhou also doesn’t know where he is?”
“Brother Zhou took a leave of absence. His relatives had a few issues, so he flew to Shanghai. I went to look for him and finally found some time to go to his house, but there was no one to be seen.”
“Master Kratos almost ran out and bit me to death.”
Da Liu recalled yesterday’s scene and sighed: “The instructor and the teacher are going crazy, you know? The thing is that if you have something, you don’t have to come, but you need to ask for a leave ah. I called him, but he never picked up, and the class teacher called his family’s numbers, and guess what? He left an empty number!”
“The teacher was extremely pissed and called him arrogant, missing the exam and skipping classes, and said that he would—”
Before he even finished speaking, Xu Sui had already run away, and Da Liu still had half a sentence stuck in his throat and said embarrassingly: “Cancel all of his general course grades.”
This sentence was also drowned in the wind.
Xu Sui hurriedly stopped a car and got in. The driver smiled and said, “Miss, to where?”
When the driver asked this, Xu Sui paused, pulling on the seat belt. She and Zhou Jingze didn’t spend a lot of time together, and she seemed to not even know where he goes when he’s in a bad mood.
But even so, she still wanted to find him, and Xu Sui reported an address: “No. 79, Amber Lane, Xinhe District, master, sorry to trouble you.”
The driver drove half an hour before arriving at the destination. In a hurry, Xu Sui realized she didn’t bring anything but only came with a few books in her arms. When she came to Zhou Jingze’s house, she found that the building was soundless, as if no one had ever lived there.
Xu Sui walked to the gate and raised her hand; when she was about to ring the doorbell, she found that the gate was unlocked, so she pushed it and walked into the yard. Yet, the automatic sensor gate inside was tightly locked. She rang the doorbell a few times, but no one answered.
She had to stand in front of the door, waiting for Zhou Jingze. Xu Sui tried her luck and hoped to see him. After waiting a few hours, Xu Sui was a little dizzy, so she squatted down and took out her phone, not knowing what he was searching for.
At three o’clock in the afternoon, the winter wind was piercingly chilly, and the last wildflower in the yard was ruthlessly broken. Xu Sui looked at the bright red flower in a trance, and suddenly, behind her, there was a “ding” sound, the sound of the glass door being slid open.
Xu Sui immediately wanted to get up, but her legs were numb. She struggled to stand up, a figure shrouded oppressively. She raised her eyes and looked over.
Zhou Jingze was wearing a thin black sweater and black trousers. He was about to go out to throw trash. His hair was a little long, black and hard, and the hair strands on his forehead draped in front of his eyebrows. His dark eyelashes were sleepy, and he looked weak and weary, looking down at her.
It was completely different from the aura he had with the two of them in the previous two days.
“Why are you here?” Zhou Jingze lowered his neck and looked at her, his voice indescribably cold.
Xu Sui explained in a flustered tone and said, “I heard from Da Liu that you didn’t take the exam today and disappeared, so I ran here to find you…”
The wind stopped at this moment, “I ran here to see you that I didn’t even eat anything.” These words were a little bit complaining coquettishly, and she was about to say it, but when she looked at Zhou Jingze’s scrutiny and indifferent gaze, she couldn’t say it anymore.
Zhou Jingze stood at the door and looked at her from above.
Now it seems like she came uninvited.
Xu Sui lowered her eyelashes, and the corner of her lips forced a smile: “I’m glad you’re okay, I’ll go now.”
After she finished speaking, she turned around, about to leave, but a long arm stretched out and dragged Xu Sui directly into the door. The nonchalant isolation and even the sound of the wind disappeared. Because of too much strength, her lips hit his collarbone, and it hurt a little.
Zhou Jingze hugged her tightly with one hand, while the other hand pressed a switch on the wall; the glass closed with a “di” sound, and the warmth from the room came over; all limbs were relaxed. Zhou Jingze’s jaw rested on her shoulder, his lips rubbing against the soft, white flesh of her neck; his voice low and hoarse:
