Chapter 17: Chapter 17: Thanks, Mom!

The jutsu Jonathan tried to execute was one of his favourites in the past. It was Sasuke Uchiha's signature chidori.

For several months, Jonathan had been practicing his chakra control. He understood the method of flowing one's chakra as well circulating it at various parts of his body. While he was practicing the healing jutsu on living organisms, Jonathan's speed and accuracy at maneuvering his chakra in certain locations of someone else's body was better than exceptional. Jonathan had spent years on earth trying to perfect his mind, body and spirit. It was only natural he could perform these features here.

Trying to perform the chidori wasn't Jonathan's goal, however. Doing so would have been impossible by himself. Because Jonathan failed to get even the slightest reaction after trying to perform a fire ball technique, he deduced that his affinity was not for fire but was likely lightning. He wouldn't say for sure but it was his best assumption for now.

Even if Jonathan failed to get a sign from that spark, he still carried a small list of memorable jutsu's from his past. He would have even spent days trying to learn what his elemental affinity was for if he was unsuccessful. As knowing would be necessary for his upcoming plans.

After exhausting the remainder of his chakra, Jonathan walked back to the orphanage. The path he took allowed him to exit through the back entrance. Whether someone spotted him at this point wouldn't have mattered. Jonathan mostly kept a blank expression on his face, so no one here could truly know what he was thinking or how he was feeling. His eyes only shined bright when he needed them to. But aside from that, he was mainly expressionless, devoid of any love for this world. It wasn't hatred, it was abhorrence.

Jonathan entered through the back safely. No one noticed him, so he pretended as though he was walking around as usual. He didn't bother going back to Nonō's office. All the books she gave had already been read. His chakra had also been depleted, so more training was out of the question. The most he could do was act like an innocent, little orphan boy.

"Musei, I'm glad I found you," a soft voice said.  When Jonathan turned to see who had called him, he spotted Nonō Yakushi.

"Can you please help me with something? One of the children got hurt while playing."

Jonathan had no desire to help. Or rather, he couldn't even if he wanted to. His chakra reserves were at an all-time low; and though he didn't show it, he was already suffering from chakra exhaustion. Trying to mould any chakra now could be fatal. Why? Because in this world, if a ninja who uses up all their chakra tries to draw more than what they already don't have, they die.

"I'm sorry, mom. I'm not feeling so well right now," Jonathan honestly replied.

Nonō believed Jonathan. She walked hastily to his side to check his temperature with her palms. Because Jonathan had been training, he made sure to wipe off all the sweat before coming back. But his body was still hot from earlier. Nonō grabbed Jonathan's hands and said, "Come on then. I'll give you some medicine so you'll feel better."

Not once had Jonathan been moved by Nonō Yakushi's motherly kindness. It was impossible for her to do so. Or better, it was impossible for anyone in this world to be able to. Jonathan was a stern man inside, goal-oriented and would let no one get in his way.

"Thanks, mom!"
