This is a non-harem fic, although the romance can be discussed. I'm really bad at romance, so it will come pretty late if there is any.

Chapter 1: Of Debris and Red

"What is this." A man sitting on a bed looked at the sky through the window.

"Am I dreaming?" He was looking at the moon to be precise.

He turned his head to his hand, realizing he was holding something.

It was a sword. One completely cracked and seemed about to turn to dust, but a sword.

"Why am I holding this? Why is the moon red?" He had a lot of questions and no answers.

Suddenly, countless memories appeared like a storm in his head. Memories of a life that was not his, of a man that was not him. It left him unable to move for a few seconds until he could process it all. Then, he felt inexplicably horrified as he understood his new situation.

Although he understood it, the man didn't want to believe it. He looked around the room hastily, looking for a mirror or something similar where he could see himself. Luckily, there was one on the closet door. He stood in front of the mirror, taking in his new look.

"Is this... me?"

Long black hair, quite marked facial features. His eyes were dark and it looked like he hadn't had a good night's sleep in a long time, he didn't know if it was natural for him or he just wasn't sleeping well. Thanks to his new memories, the man knew that his current name was William Hastur.

William was a citizen of the Loen Kingdom, in the North Continent. He lived in a small city called Tingen and he was a graduate of the Department of Physics at Khoy University.

He was in his mid-twenties and he was studying to become a professor at the same University he studied. William had really good degrees and caught the attention of some of his professors, which gave him this opportunity.

He lived with his grandmother until the year before when she passed away. Her death affected him, but William was a strong-minded person and he recovered from it very quickly.

Suddenly, he casually remembered the sword he was holding. It was a black and rusty sword, apparently forged without any care. It didn't seem to be able to cut anything and made Will wonder how did that strange weapon reach his hands.

"Don't look at me so much or I'll blush."

The red light of the moon entered through the window, lighting up the young man's terrified face. He looked left and right, making sure he hadn't gone crazy.

"This sword talked?"

A chill ran down his spine. He was a normal student in his other life and here he was a physicist, the subject of the supernatural had always seemed to him nothing more than entertainment for young people who liked to fantasize about superpowers and mythical creatures.

"Of course, I talked. I've been waiting for you."

William was silent for a good five seconds before opening his mouth.

"What are you?" He asked, regaining his dignity.

An angry sound came out from the sword and William could have sworn the sword would have puffed out its cheeks if it could.

"It's pretty rude to talk like this to a lady, you know?"

The voice was feminine, but it had a strange feeling of timelessness in it. The young man questioned himself if he should apologize or not.

"I'm sorry."

"But are you some kind of spirit sealed in this sword?" The man had read some fantasy stories in his past life, so he had some theories about the magic item.

"Not really, or at least that's what I think. I'm not sure."

The voice sounded a bit absent as if it didn't remember something important. William looked at it with bewilderment.

"Yeah, I feel like I forgot a lot of things. I only know that I've been waiting for you since I was born and a potion formula."

William touched his forehead as he got a little headache.

"A potion? What kind of world I've been transmigrated to?" From what he had read in his other life, fantasy worlds usually were places plagued by wars and constant death. Although they vary in how dark they were, many were not a good fit for someone from the modern world like him.

And considering that his new memories didn't show anything related to magic, William probably didn't have any special powers.

"Hehe, don't you worry, because now you have me." The sword talked to him with a lively voice.

"Wait, you read my thought?" William was a bit apprehensive about this strange magical item that had appeared in this world alongside him.

"Yeah! We have formed a connection from the moment we touched. We're meant for each other, after all." The voice sounded too happy and William wondered what he had gotten himself into.

"Hehe, as I said before, don't you worry, darling. This potion formula I mentioned earlier seems to be able to give you some sort of power."

William purposely ignored the sword calling him a darling, not wanting to know when an object started flirting with him, and decided to ask, intrigued by this supposed potion that could give him supernatural powers.

"You need some ingredients and then combine them in a specific way. When you drink the mixture you should receive the powers, or so it is in my memories."

William was silent for a moment, understanding this knowledge.

"So in this world powers come in the form of potions? I never read anything like that in my previous life. I only knew the potions that were used to cure some injuries or to temporarily enhance some attribute."

The sword moved a little in his hand on its own.

"That doesn't matter, I'm glad I'm with you now, darling."

William sighed and looked at the sword with a little smile.

"Alright, do you have a name?" He would feel bad to call a sentient being a 'sword', even if it was a sword.

The sword moved again on its own and William could tell that it seemed to be jumping happily.

"Debris! My name is Debris. It's nice to meet you, darling!"

William laughed softly, wondering where his life would go from there on.
