Chapter 10: We Must Move On
"Have you remembered the ingredients for the Sequence 8 potion, Debris?" William strolled through the underground market while speaking to his sentient sword.
"Hmm, if I remember correctly, you need two ingredients." Debris was silent for five seconds, trying to remember more details. "Ah, I think one of them is a part of a Murloc."
The information about the creature appeared in William's head. He remembered the lectures on animals and plants related to the mystical world that Old Neil had given him.
"I'll probably remember more when you digest the potion. We are connected, after all, hehe." William's left eye twitched. Debris was unable to stop reminding him of this fact, and she made that perverted laugh every time. "Hey! That's cruel, Darling. There's no way my laugh is perverted."
William conveniently ignored her as he thought of ways to carry out the Acting Method. Luckily, the noble bearing part could be accentuated with an ability he acquired from the potion itself. It was a pretty useless skill in battle. It just gave him the aura of nobility similar to what one would feel upon seeing a knight in full armor.
However, for the part of bravery and defending his companions, he would have to wait until he was sent into a battle.
Then, he activated his knightly aura and started looking for Murloc parts for sale on the market for future reference.
The many normal people passing by him couldn't help but feel a bit of admiration for the boy who wandered around with a straight back and eyes of steel. William wasn't too worried about being discovered by Beyonders. After all, he was a member of the Nighthawks, an official Beyonder, and trying to hide would be contrary to what a Knight would do.
A few minutes later he rejoined his two companions. He was a bit disappointed that he hadn't found any trace of Beyonder ingredients. Of course, these were rare and when they did appear for sale they were quickly snapped up. What he did see were many amulets, although most of them had flaws in their engraving, so they would not work. Even so, some were real and had different effects.
He didn't buy any. The effects of these low-level amulets could be easily replicated by him. Most of them were created by enthusiasts of mysticism who were not Beyonders.
Klein had bought a couple of incomplete amulets, saying he would complete them himself to give to his brother and sister. When he mentioned this, William had an idea.
"Hey, Klein. Today I was going to make a stew, which is my specialty. If you want you can come with your brothers to my house." The proposal was not something that sudden. He and Klein had become good friends because they were both new members and didn't know anyone else that well. Of course, he, too, turned to Old Neil. "You too, Old Neil. I bought too much the other day, and it is likely going to expire otherwise."
Klein looked a bit hesitant, but when he saw Old Neil unabashedly agree, he decided to accept. His salary was as high as William's, but he had to pay rent and cover expenses for three people. His situation had started to improve drastically in the last few days, but it was still good for him to make some savings.
"Old Neil is cheeky as always..." Klein chuckled at the old fox's behavior.
Before they left, Old Neil pointed out a corner that had gone unnoticed by both of them.

"If you want to buy Beyonder ingredients you can go there. We don't want normal people to be able to locate them easily, after all."
William's lips pursed.
"This old man. You should have told us earlier!"
Anyway, it was already late, and they had to leave. At least William felt that the rate at which his potion was being digested had increased a bit. If he continued to do the same for several days, it shouldn't take more than half a year to break through to Sequence 8. It was then that he wondered if the Performance Method was common knowledge for Beyonders. Old Neil had not told them about it and it seemed that he was unable to advance in the Sequence even after several years.
"Should I mention it?" William was a little worried about doing such a thing. If it wasn't normal, the Church would doubt him more than it already did. A guy suddenly shows up already a Beyonder and knows forbidden information? "Yeah, I should definitely wait a bit, maybe mention how I feel like I'm getting more and more used to my powers as I act as a Knight."
"I'll go home and tell Benson and Melissa, then." Klein took the public carriage and went to his house.
Old Neil and William got on too but headed for the latter's house. This time he didn't run all the way back because he was in the company of the old man. His Beyonder powers didn't involve any physical enhancement. It would be hard for him.
"Man, I haven't had a stew in a while. I appreciate that." Old Neil looked hungry just thinking about it.
"It's important to know how to make a good stew. They're cheap, very nutritious, and if they're cooked well, they taste great too." William had always been a fan of this type of food and he knew how to prepare it from a very young age.
"Haha, my lover used to prepare some very good ones. Unfortunately, she passed away a long time ago."
William looked at him sideways and sighed.
"I can say what you feel. Nowadays, I'm alone in my family. Everyone else is gone." Sadness could be felt in his tone.
Old Neil patted him on the back.
"I suppose we are partners in this matter, then. But we must move on and not dwell on painful memories."
William looked at him and nodded, grateful for his words. They continued their journey home.
