Alex was standing next to one the kiosk and watched Hayle. He had followed her. In the old days if anyone upset the woman she would lock herself in her room and cried. The new Hayle got in the car, drove off and now she was walking in the city. He followed her, because he was afraid she might do something stupid, but it seem like that it was unnecessary. He liked the new Hayle, even better than the old one. He very much enjoyed her attire, but he found her piercing most enticing. She was giving out the no care in the world vibe and he can see how other men look at her, he didn't really like that. He sneaked behind her and reached out with his arm, grabbed her at the waist and pulled her closer.

Hayle had no idea what was happening. One minute she was walking calmly and in the other an arm grabbed her from behind. She acted on her reflexes at the moment, pushed back hard with her elbow hitting her attacker in the stomach, she heard a loud hiss behind her and her attacker had let go of her waist. She had caught the man's arm and with great momentum she threw her attacker over her shoulder, the person landed on the ground. She never really had a combative nature; her world view was: live and let live, but after a year or so when she moved to Nashville, she had taken a self defence class. At the time she thought it was a good idea, since she just moved to the city she felt more comfortable that way but she had taken little use of that class until today. Hayle turned around ready to fight when saw her attacker. First she was just surprised, but then she was trying to hide her smile with her hand. It was Alex laying on the ground.

-    Jesus Christ on a bicycle!! Hayle! What are you trying to do? Kill me!! - shouted Alex while he was trying to push himself up from the fetal position Hayle put him.

-    It's your fault. That's what you deserve for sneaking up on me you idiot - said the woman. Alex looked at her with his mouth wide open, then he started to laugh at the comical nature of the situation. He, the 6"1 man, full of muscle just got tackled by a barely 5"6 woman.

-    I'm fine Rambo thanks for asking - said Alex and when he had caught up next to the women.

-    What are you doing here, Alex? - Hayle asked at last.

-     You.

-     Do you have a compelling reason or do you just like to scare women to death in your free time?

-     I just wanted to make sure you were okay. You practically ran out of the farm like the devil was after you - said the man, while he followed her into a cafe where they sat down at a free table.

-     I don't remember calling you in with me Alex , nor did I ask for security detail - Hayle said, but she sat down opposite the man.

-     Now I know you don't need it - the man laughed. - You know I will always think of you as that little girl, who was never liked to stroll around town alone,

-     As you can see I have fully grown up and I got used to taking care of myself, I don't need anyone's help - said the woman not looking into Alex eyes instead she started to checkout the building opposite. All the while she was thinking that this man is unbelievable. He came after her just to make sure she was alright. She was angry at him, otherwise this whole situation would impress her. She didn't like the fact that the man was so close to her, because when she agreed to come home she thought she would avoid him at all cost. She only was back less than four hours but out of those four hours she had spent three in this man's company. Every minute she has spent with Alex has been a destructive force on her abstinence. If she wanted to be honest she would have to admit to herself that she still wanted this man. She was in love with him for over a decade. She tried everything to cast him out of her heart but nothing has helped. A waitress came to their table to pick up their order.

-     Hi Y'all. What can I get you? - she asked and smiled at Alex in a way that suggested that she had never seen a man in her life.

-     I would like black coffee and Nora's famous apple pie Gracie, thank you - the man replied, and flashed a charming smile in the girl's direction. She blushed and without even looking at Hayle she asked her what she had wanted.

-     I'll just have a latte thanks -  she said and tried to not pay any attention to the man sitting opposite, the girl took the order and left. Hayle felt Alex looking at her; it felt like the man was trying to burn a hole into her face with his gaze.

-     Don't you have anything  better to do than staring at me? - she was still nothing looking at him, just grimaced into his direction. Alex laughed expressively then grabbed both her hands on the table. Hayle was so surprised at the man's audacity that she forgot to object.

-     No. I don’t really have the pleasure to spend my free time with such a beautiful woman as you - Hayle pulled back her hands and then raised her eyebrows.

-     Interesting… - she said, and then thanked the waitress for her coffee that she had placed in front of her. Alex waited for the girl to leave and then asked her what she meant by that. - Nothing really, I'm just surprised you haven't been able to come up with a better pick up line in the last ten years.

Alex was looking at the woman all surprised he didn't understand what she meant. Hayle decided to not enlighten him. She had heard this line a million times ten years ago in a similar restaurant that she worked at. The only difference between then and now is that the man was saying it to her instead of that many women he had paraded in front of her back then. Hayle took a sip of her coffee, she had a hard time not remembering what a womaniser the man was and the fact how much it hurt her. Alex had no idea or at the very least he acted like he didn't. The memories didn't hurt anymore, but she was still puzzled by the fact that all the women in here were devouring the man with their eyes. She knows that right now in this moment the man wasn't interested in anyone else but her, the fact has flattered her and confused her at the same time. That moment on the street she had to face the fact that her feelings for the man had never gone away. Yes she knew about the womaniser side of the man but she also knew a side of him that no one else did. His loving, caring side, the side that made him come after her today, the side that is sitting in front of her now, when she was only being horrible to the man. She knows she has to try and avoid him if she wants to survive this week.

-    I have an offer for you - she said.

-     Yeah? And what would that be gorgeous? - Alex asked while he put down the fork.

-     First of all stop calling me with these creepy nicknames. Second of all I offer you truce for this week which seems like we will have to spend time together. I think the best course of action would be if we try to get out of each other's way - she finished the proposal. For moments Alex didn't say anything he was just looking at Hayle and thought that what she is asking for is completely reasonable and even doable.

-     I only have one tiny problem with that - he said and looked deeper in her eyes.

-     What would that be?

-      I don't want to avoid you . In fact I want to be next to you as much as possible - Alex has lifted her hand and then he has kissed her palm softly. Hayle shivered when his lips touched her. She had pulled her hand back again.

-     Then I'll make sure to avoid you and don't worry. I had plenty of time to practice. - she said and got up and left him.

She walked back to her car, got in and drove away. She was trying to keep her composure, but she had a hard time concentrating on the drive. So she pulled the car to the side of the road while she was swallowing soft sobs. Eight years ago she swore to never cry again because of the man. She has not even been back for one day and the man has managed to destroy eight years of hard work.
