Maya Armetta was different from her, however. She was supposed to be a normal citizen, completely alienated from the hell that befell them every night, living in a happy bubble along with everyone else. Yet, there she was, with the little she knew, trying to pursue the topic. It left Emily at a loss. She didn’t know how to feel about that.
“That’s why sometimes I’d like to believe there was someone there looking out for us. Rocket Rider reminds me of that when I’m feeling down... No matter what happens, there’s always a hero among us to help. To give us hope and stuff, you know? The kind of person who can lift us up, even in our worst moments.”
The pale girl clenched her fist. She wasn’t entirely sure why. No matter what she decided to reply, she could never bring herself to reveal the truth. But she couldn’t agree with Armetta, either.
“…”
“Don’t you have someone like that, Emmy? Somebody you look up to?”
“…”
“Emmy?”
“Not exactly… But yeah, I think I get what you mean…”
“I mean, I know it’s weird and all, but still… I believe there should be an actual ‘Rocket Rider’ out there, looking out for us, you know?”
“Is that so…? Well, I guess that’s something I wouldn’t mind believing too. Yeah… I’d love to believe it. Before that, though, there’s just one thing I’d need to find out first to keep my peace of mind.”
“Something you’d need to… find out…?”
“Yeah.” she said, staring far into the horizon.
“Like, what?”
“It’s a secret.”
“...?”
Truthfully, at that moment, the pale girl could only think of one thing.
(I wonder… If there really does exist a ‘Rocket Rider’, then where the hell’s he been all this time?)
