Zou Yue got down from the motorbike, looking at the setup in awe. "How did you guys think of all this?"
"Oh, we had specialist's guidance." The young man chuckled.
Yue frowned slightly. 'Was it someone like me? Did that person also come from the future?' he followed after him without a word.
The inside of the campus was much cleaner and well organised. Every student was on the move doing their jobs. No one seemed idle.
Every window was barricaded and the heavy locks were being installed by a few students.
Seeing as he noticed this, the young man glanced back and explained. "Those things can see and hear very well, but their moments are very limited. Before those zombies start to move with ease we have to secure this place."
"It is a temporary setup. We don't have electricity and water supply yet. But we do have a solar charging point. we use it only for our bikes. I hope we find an alternative ability for that,"
Zou Yue froze. "Ability? What is that?" he curiously pried further.
"Oh, some humans react different to this virus. They gain a certain ability. For example, we have students who have exhibited many varieties of abilities varying from speed and strength. The rarest ones are the elemental ones. At least that's what we know of,"
"How do you know all this?"
Yue inquisitively peered at him.
The young man did not give a direct answer. Rather, he just shrugged. "when this all started, many of us got sick. Like really sick. We quarantined ourselves in different rooms until we got better.
He paused, slowing down his phase. "Some made it but some lost their lives... the ones who survived gained an ability. People say that it is a gift from god."
A human, when infected by the virus, either turns into a zombie or gains ability. They all showcase the common symptoms, the fever and the black veins. So during his past life many humans who showcased these sign were killed instantly.
Many ability users were lost right then.
The guy just awkwardly scratched his head. "Everyone knows this. it's... it's basic information," he dodged the question.
Zou Yue nodded. 'so they must have a person form the future or they must have an ability user who can predict the future, just like old gramps,'
The old grandpa who was a great help to him in G city also had similar powers. But his powers are limited to the past. He can only access the memories of other human not to predict the future.
'If an ability to predict the future exists, it would be a phenomenal game changer,'
He thought to himself as he vigilantly followed in.
"The girls' dorm and the boys' dorms is that way, lots of rooms are free right now because we had a few casualties..." he mumbled with a sad smile.
"What did you do with the corpses?"
"Burned them,"
Yue was pleasantly surprised. These youngsters were doing so well in this initial stage.
The last life everyone panicked and chaos raged on. When their loved ones passed away, some decided to bury them underground. But that was a huge no no. It contaminated the underground water supply, thereby making it undrinkable.
The water ability users became a treasure at that time.
But later on, Qian Wen developed a purification tablet that works wonders.
Yue sighed softly. 'I guess this place is not bad after all.'
The young man led him to the girl's dorm. "We are here. Ah senior Mei!" he waved at the girl who was carrying some stuff around. "Can you guide her in?"
"Wait," Yue looked at him intently. "Why am I staying here?"
A loud sound of engine rearing disrupted their conversation. "Follow senior Mei. She can help you. I'll get going then" he ran away without giving a proper answer.
"Hey," the young girl smiled at him. "Come on, follow me," she walked in.
"Time is money, pretty girl. Let's get moving," she smiled at him sweetly.
Yue sighed and followed after her. 'It's just a girls' dorm. It might be safer than staying with the men.'
The young girl names Mei took him to the second floor of the dorm, to the room number 203. "This will be your room. As of now, you have two roommates. They are sweet, I can assure you that. Just take some rest and come down in the evening. We will be arranging work then,"
She said and left.
Yue entered the room. Two young girls sat on their bunk bed reading some book.
"Ah, a newcomer," one girl with bleached blond hair whispered. Her roots were growing out an inch. Even so, she looked very pretty. "Come in, come in, we just finished our night shift so don't make too much noise okay?"
Yue nodded.
The other girl peered at him intensely. "Have I seen you somewhere?"
Yue shook his head.
"I'm sure I have. By the way, why aren't you talking/"
Yue signed that his throat was sore.
"oh don't worry, I have medicine here." the other girl generously gave it to him.
Upon closer look this girl too looked very pretty. She had straight black hair with short baby banks over her face. Her larger eyes and slightly chubby cheeks gave her a cuter look.
'They both look trustworthy... but this is the apocalypse time. I'm not sure how these innocent countenances can change in the future,'
He carefully put the medicine in his weapon's bag and walked to an empty bed. He placed all his bags in the bottom bunk bed. The top bunk was still free.
He placed the food bag and the gun bag on the bed and laid down, hugging it.
Zou Yue blankly glanced at the steel underside of the top bunk. The loneliness hit him harder than he had expected.
This was so similar to the life he lived in his past life.
Silent tears poured down his cheeks. 'But I tried my best. I tried to change the future. I did my best.'
All that was left was the hope and pray that his parents had survived.
He had sent Hary there as well. There is a chance he might have turned into a zombie and attacked them.
'Hary is tall and very strong. If he had turned into a zombie, how can my dad deal with him... I'm so worried.'
So many grim scenarios ran through his mind.
He tightly hugged his face and sobbed silently.
"Hey you crying new girl?" the blond girl whispered.
The other one ran to him and gently patted his hands. "It's going to be okay. Losing loved ones is a hard thing to process. Don't let the grief take you down,"
Yue glanced at him with his tear soaked face. "I don't know if they had survived yet...."
"Then, hey think of it this way. There is a 50/50 chance that they had survived. Don't lose hope."
Yue sat up. This girl was right. His parents did not react much to the virus when he was having his fever.
'There is a 50% chance that they had become immune. Even so, that percent reduces to 40 because I included Hary in this mixture,'
His initial plan was to move Hary out just before the apocalypse. It was not safe with an outsider.
