"That's our signal! Yue, come close..." Hary shouted as he was fending off two zombies that were super persistent.
Hearing this, Fan Xui frowned deeply. 'What is this attack going to be?'
He felt a strange heat behind him. The feeling he was all too familiar with.
He glanced back in shock as blue flames surged thought the corridor burning everything it touched.
"shit," he jumped down off his back and pulled Yue closer to his chest. He yanked him down low to the ground, keeping his back to ththroughe flames.
"Brace yourself!" Hary shouted, glancing back. "Oh, you guys are down,"
He swiftly squatted down in front of them. His metal skeletal leg melted completely off, forming a huge blanket over them.
Fan Xui looked around curiously. 'Metal skin..... it's a very intriguing ability,' He pinched the metal slightly. It felt much like soft silk.
The flame blasted over their shield, making the silky layer trembled slightly. Even so, it did not melt nor get blown away from the power of the blast.
A hand swatted his hands away. "Keep your hands to yourself," Hary growled, holding the blanket over them carefully.
'Weird... if this metal is a part of their body, can they feel anything from it,'
He looked intently at the blond-haired man. He seemed to be gritting his teeth silently.
'He does look like he is in pain..'
"What are you looking at?"
Fan Xui wordlessly turned away and faced the younger man in his arms. He had his eyes closed tight, clinging to his shirt.
"It's okay..." he gently kissed his forehead.
Yue looked up, blushing red.
"I won't let anything happen to you,"
"hey," Hary poked his back with his elbow. "Touch him again and I will throw you out. Got it,"
Fan Xui did not even bother looking back. He simply caressed Yue's hair away from his face.
Yue blinked up at him. "I'm not scared."
The blue flame that was burning intensely went out all of a sudden.
Hary pulled back the blanket.
Fan Xui glanced around. Just as he had imagined, the whole place was burned to a crisp. The unique thing was that this flame does not speed that much. It will burn anything that touches and once the target is fully burned, it goes out.
The whole corridor was completely charred, with few human bones here and there. But most of the zombies had turned into ashes.
Hary stood up, hobbling on one leg. "We are here!" he shouted.
"She will be here," Hary whispered, assembling all the metal onto his amputated leg forming it into a working metallic leg. "Let's wait somewhere safe."
Yue sat up, glancing down at him with an unknown look on his face.
Fan Xui gently held his trembling hands. "We really need to have our talk," he whispered ever so softly.
Yue nodded with a serious look.
Right then, a loud thudding footstep came towards them.
Fan Xui vigilantly looked back.
His body instantly stiffened up.
A young girl ran towards them with a knife in hand. Her face completely looked similar to Yue's except maybe her eyes. They were sharp and upturned, making her face more serious looking.
'I should have guessed this. This girl is the only person I have seen able to burn everything blue'
The anger and the anguish he held back all boiled out like a volcano.
The electricity in his body fully evoked.
Yue rushed towards her with his sword in hand.
'No, don't run close! She will burn you!!!'
Fan Xui sat up with difficulty and held out his hands. Electricity sparked visibly, formed a huge ball in his palm.
"Tian!" Yue jumped onto the girl and hugged her tight. "Tian....."
Fan Xui froze. Not only by the sight in front of his eyes, but also because of the cold knife to his neck.
"I knew you were up to no good." Hary growled, gripping his outreached hand tightly. "If that attack goes anywhere close to them, I will slice your head off."
He could not even hear much of his threat. His mind was too preoccupied by his overwhelming thoughts.
"Who is she to him?" he glanced at Hary.
"Can't you see? They are siblings." Hary whispered, tying his hands with his metal.
"She is his sister?" Fan Xui looked at him for affirmation.
Hary just rolled his eyes. "Yeah and you just tried to kill her..." he punched him hard in the face.
He dazedly held his aching nose. Thankfully, it was not bleeding or broken. "why did you do that?!"
"I really should kill you right here. If she gets to know what you did to her darling brother, she will burn you alive."
Fan Xui closed his eyes, thinking back to all the things that happened during that attack. That girl said something along the lines of 'you killed him.'
There was also the fact that she was silently working for Qian, but after he started to mention Zou Yue, she smashed all those test tubes and beakers.
He came to a vague conclusion. That attack was not related to Bai family or anyone else. It must be related to this girl's sibling, Yue.
'But why did she say that I killed him? Was he..... Dead? no, that's not possible,'
He thought of multiple reasons but he could not think of any at the moment. 'its… just a speculation…..but if it was true....Why... why didn't I know of his death? I was the settlement leader. Wasn't I supposed to know if a person I like was dead or alive... why didn't I know?'
He tightly clenched his palm.
There must be only one reason why.
Bai Liwei, the person in charge of taking the census of dead and alive. He was the one who was supposed to convey to him the news of people's death.
'Did Bai Liwei really lie to me?'
Even a few days before that blast he had asked Liwei about the death census. But the young man casually said that the number of survivors remained the same.
'How did Yue die.....'
"you look awfully pitiful lying on the floor," Hary yanked the back of his shirt and pulled him up like a limp puppy. "I think his brain is broken," he shook him a little.
"Stop that," Yue came running to him and took Fan Xui off his hands.
Fan Xui intently looked at the young girl.
"You must be Fan Xui..." her deep brown eyes looked up and down. "I knew Yue would be lugging you around,"
"Nice flame show." Hary chuckled, patting Tian's back. "I admit I was wrong, but to be honest, Yue must have left him behind,"
"You guys are super mean to him," Yue pulled the dazed Fan Xui over his back. "Weren't we supposed to be running?"
"Yes," Hary pulled Tian up front and Yue.
Yue rushed after them. "The sky bridge,"
"That was our plan too," Hary glanced back with a bright smile. "Our brains works similarly, yes?"
Yue smacked his arm with a threatening glare. "Everyone with a brain would have thought that. besides, we still have to get to Qian,"
The arms around his neck slightly tightened.
Yue gently tapped Fan's hands. Only then did the arms loosen up. "Tian, did you see any traces of flames around the building exterior?"
"Why do you ask?"
"Fan said that Qian burned to death. So...."
Tian paused. "I don't think so. All the windows were clean. If in case one of the rooms were ablaze, it would have left a trace on the exterior." She glanced at Fan Xui, who had his eyes wide open. "You must have dreamt it. I heard ones in coma have vivid dreams."
"Ah, that must be it," Yue gently patted Fan's stiff arms. "You must have dreamt it, Fan. Don't worry, Qian must be safe,"
They all hurried towards the emergency staircase at the right end of the building.
"Take the elevator up front. It is much safer and easier," Fan Xui whispered close to his ear.
"Hey why don't we jump through an elevator shaft? It's much faster," Yue suggested as they ran past the elevator door.
"But we won't know which floor we have to get out of," Tian paused by the door.
"We can count the doors."
"Yeah, let's do that then," she gave way to him.
Yue stepped forward and simply kicked the elevator door. The two doors broke open in the middle, leaving a gaping hole.
Without a moment of hesitation, Yue jumped in and caught hold of the suspension rope. Slowly, he slid down a bit.
Tian and Hary jumped in after him, grabbing onto the same rope.
Yue loosed his grip a little, hastening his descent. A minute later, they had passed five doors. "This is our exit. Everyone grip tight, I will swing us close," he shouted.
"Hold on carefully." Tian shouted from above.
Yue slowly pushed their weight around, moving the rope back and forth. As they got close to the door he simply kicked it.
The door smashed open. He caught onto one corner of the broken door and crawled out.
Three zombies pushed closer to him.
"shit..." his sword was in its sheath and he did not even have a gun in hand. He just punched a hole into the one closer to him. Its brain shattered into pieces, splattering brain matter everywhere.
But the problem was his hands got stuck in its hard skull.
"Oh fuck..." he yanked it out. By that time another zombie had gotten dangerously close.
Eyes wide open; he watched the zombie's wide open mouth approach his face.
A hand caught its forehead and pushed it away.
"Calm down, I've got your back," Fan whispered from behind. "Take care of the one up front,"
Yue swiftly drew his sword and slashed the zombie.
Something irked him a lot. Suddenly, it occurred to him.
'Did Fan just point out the zombie's direction? Wait, he has done so before as well. He was the one who gave me the elevator idea before...'
"How did you know that zombie was there? Did you regain your vision?!"
