“Ah, a keyboard appeared.” I focused my consciousness on the field in my status that said «Please set a name». Then, a keyboard was displayed. What it requested was…… A general term for the sorcery I was going to use from here on out. The name seemed to be a factor which determined its strength. If the name you inputted was suitable, the sorcery would be easier to learn, if not, then it would be harder. Furthermore, after registering the name, it appears that changing it was also possible after a month has elapsed in real time. Though in doing so, there’s a chance it could be risky since the acquired sorcery could change along with it.
“…… Nevertheless, you could obtain sorcery in an easier way?” Setting a name for the sorcery wasn’t a problem in itself. The variation of difficulty when acquiring sorcery wasn’t really an issue either. Its just that…… This suggested that the difficulty in learning basic sorcery wasn’t supposed to be all that high. At least, it didn’t seem like I needed to experience something otherworldly.
“W-well, it’s in the past now and it’s only speculation after all.” As my voice quivered, I decided to confirm with the bulletin board just to be sure. I searched for what could’ve been used as a keyword to look for any discussions, but there were no corresponding finds. I guess, even if there was an easier acquisition method, I can’t leave this dungeon so it’s not like I’d necessarily be able put that method to use anyways.
“Back to the task at hand, inputting the name right?” Until I registered the name for my sorcery, the details of the spell couldn’t be identified. So, this current naming has to be done with a feeling that’s almost perfect.
“Magic eye arts…… Nah, feels off. Cursed eye…… Nope. Demonic eye…… No. Evil eye….. Yeah, let’s go with that.” I named my sorcery, evil eye. The spell I had learned was『Magic Eye of Poison・1』. However, a “magic eye” can hold the image of being both good and bad or right and wrong. On the other hand, an “evil eye” was biased towards power that was wicked in a sense and I felt like that was the direction I wanted to have. Thus, it wasn’t a magic eye, but an evil eye.
“Now, let’s check the details regarding the『Magic Eye of Poison・1』.” When I entered in my sorcery as evil eye arts, the details of『Magic Eye of Poison・1』then became appraisable. And so, I appraised.
△△△△△ 『Magic Eye of Poison・1』 Level : 1 Interference : 100 CT : 10s-5s Trigger: “Please set.” Effect : Inflicts poison depending on the target’s surrounding curse concentration x 1.
The curse that you emit from your eyes have no regard towards your opponent’s armor, no matter how sturdy it is. Reason being, the poison is directly produced from within your opponent’s body. Caution : Every time you use it, you receive self damage based on the curse concentration around you x 1. ▽▽▽▽▽
“Fumufumu.” Before the acquisition, the sorcery that the Poisonous Bite Rat’s front tooth had,『Rat-bite Fever・1』seemed to have greatly influenced it. The amount of poison dealt is similar after all.
“CT was…… Charge time and cooldown huh.” When you decided to activate it, it would take 10 seconds before it actually fired. This was charge time. Once you fired it off, 5 seconds had to pass before the next attack. This was cooldown. However, the cooldown didn’t only refer to the time it took to fire another attack of『Magic Eye of Poison・1』, but rather, the usage of the next sorcery as well. In other words, if I learned a new kind of sorcery and attacked with『Magic Eye of Poison・1』, I wouldn’t be able to use either the『Magic Eye of Poison・1』or the new sorcery until 5 seconds had elapsed.
“Hm? Aah, but the charge time and cooldown was separate for each eye and it counted individually.” I wonder if this was considered synergy between the named evil eye arts and my body which had additional eyes due to a curse. It appears that if all 13 of my eyes utilized sorcery, they could each invoke the spells individually, so I was probably able to launch a barrage or do rapid-fire. I’d have to be careful with the amount of HP consumption, but it seems like it’d be quite useful.
“As for the trigger…… Ah, I see. It’s like some sort of safety system.” Regarding the trigger, it looks to be an action or a chant that was required in order to activate it after the charge time was over. I wondered if it was really necessary for a moment, but if it used a system that just automatically went off right after the charge time ended, there’d be a lot of situations where that’d be unpreferable. For instance, if the magic eye activated at the point in which the charge time ended, but the target had disappeared…… I don’t even want to think about where the curse would fly off to when it loses its target.
“Now, what should I do indeed.” Moreover, if I closed my eyes to prevent the activation of the magic eye, it would just be a suicidal act. When you lowered your eyelids to shut your eyes, what you end up seeing wasn’t exactly darkness, but simply the back of your eyelids. Basically, all you’d be doing was targeting yourself with the magic eye.
“A word or possibly an action setup that could keep a misfire from happening……” Establishing a trigger proved to be fairly problematic. If you go with a chant, it only checks the pronunciation. So if you picked a common word, you’ll accidentally fire it off even though it’s just the trigger. On the other hand, if you choose a word that’s hard to say, when you wanted to activate it in actual practice, it’s possible you wouldn’t be able to do so. This was the same with actions too. In short…… The correct answer was a word that was moderate in length and wasn’t common.
“『Taruwiveno』” «The incantation trigger for『Magic Eye of Poison・1』has been set» Looks like the trigger was set without any problems. As for the origin of the name…… To an extent, it was based off of my nickname. My name was, Taruzaru Ui. People close to me would shorten it to Taru, or they’d just call me by my given name, Ui. Then, around the time I was in junior high school, the nickname that a group of boys gave me was…… Taruwi, a moniker that combined my surname and given name together. This Taruwi nickname sounded exactly like a demon in Zoroastrianism though. (1)
“I could also set an action in case I wasn’t able to speak but…… Well, whatever.” Why the boys decided to attach such a nickname to me, I have no idea. I don’t want to know either. It was easy to guess when you put chuunibyou together with puberty anyways. I couldn’t think of it as anything more than them simply teasing me by calling me a demon nonetheless. Well, that’s why I believed this name was pretty fitting for my magic eye. Also, the veno part of『Taruwiveno』was from the word, venom.
“Then, let’s try it out.” I concentrated my awareness towards the eye on my right hand. I thought with the intent of using『Magic Eye of Poison・1』. When I had done so, a circle-shaped gauge appeared in my field of vision and it began to gradually decrease. I see, this was the charge time. Once the gauge reached 0, I uttered the word that would pull the trigger.
“『Taruwiveno』” Sure enough, right after my voice came out and the chant ended, the shining rainbow-colored eye on my right hand emitted a deep green glow. Then I activated the『Magic Eye of Poison・1』with target being myself.
“Mu……” There was a bit of a…… Sense of discomfort. I felt like my heart pulse had spiked up for an instant. However, there wasn’t a wound that opened or any kind of impact coming from a specific direction or anything. If I used this skillfully, I might be able to attack one-sidedly from long-range or somewhere hidden. The essential effects of it were…… A Poison (10) display which had properly appeared, and the cost which consumed a proportion of my HP bar.
“Now then, let’s take some revenge.” Yep, with this I’ll likely be able to go toe-to-toe with the rats on the 2nd layer.
“It’s already the afternoon though.” Since it was around a good time, I decided to log out once.
(1): In Zoroastrianism, there’s a certain pair of demons/daevas and one of them goes by the name of Taurvi. Basically, Taurvi is the personification of hunger and also deals in poison. Seems fairly similar to someone we know, yes? There’s more, but I won’t get too into it since it’s pretty extensive. Though if you’re curious, just put in a search for “Taurvi.”
