What Fenrir didn’t know was that Edward wouldn’t have wanted nothing more than to turn as well, but couldn’t, the damage he received from the explosion crushing most of his internal organs. If he were to pass out, his wolf turn skill will cancel and he will turn back into a human for a few moments. Even if he survived the transformation process, he will be dead instantly in his human form.
Him keeping his consciousness and wolf shift active was his only hope, but he also didn’t know how long he will be able to hang on.

A few minutes ago/ Minx’s resting spot
Minx’s fur was slowly pulsating in a bright white light, but as mesmerizing as that looked, the blood under her body told a totally different story. While Edward was running for his life, Minx was also fighting her own battle to live. She consumed way to many higher level monster cores and the life force was literally gushing out of her body, creating cracks over her entire skin, cracks through which blood kept flowing out.
She was hanging on to her life while using the excessive amount of life force to try to evolve, but it looked like a loosing battle and, while her strength kept increasing, her body was really close to giving up while her consciousness was slowly fading away.
Just as she was about to take her last breath, her soul getting extinguished from this world, a loud bird screech came from not that far south, a screech so loud that jolted her back to her senses for a brief moment. Her mind drifted to the encounter she and Edward has not that long ago in the mountains, when another flying beast almost killed them both. A wave of heat passed through her blood soaked fur, giving her an ominous feeling.
Feeling the ground under her shake slightly and a small shock-wave passing through it, Minx’s eyes snapped open with blood gushing out of them as well, dying her vision completely red.
Ignoring all the blood and inhuman pain she was feeling, Minx forced herself to her feet to try heading towards the source of the explosion. She felt him close, and she wanted to see him one last time, to make sure nothing has happened to him.
Since walking itself was a torment, with more and more blood flowing out of the cracks on her skin at every step, Minx released a pained howl and started increasing her body size. She didn’t want to stop, not until she caught at least one more glimpse of Edward and made sure he was alright.
Her body started growing larger and larger and she eventually got big enough to see over the top of the trees, up to the place the explosion from before came from. Seeing Edward’s charred body laying on the ground with smoke continuously coming out of it, Minx felt a deep fury bubbling up inside her.
Releasing another howl, a howl filled with anger, fear and unwillingness, the cracks over her entire body started slowly freezing from her legs up. The blood covering her body started falling off her fur in red frozen chunks and the white fur under them started gaining a slight blue tone as her eyes turned completely white. A terrifying amount of mana rushed out of her, covering the nearby forest with a blanket of frost and causing snow to start falling out of the sky. She hated the fire, the fire that burned her only companion, her only friend, her only partner, her only alpha. She hated it all. She wanted the fire to die and the world to become buried in ice. Her strong feelings gave form to her mana and eventually, her evolution.
The previous sunny summer day tuned into a stormy winter one for over a mile around her, paining a scene of desolation surrounding a central blueish-white wolf in the middle. She did it, she completed her transformation and cheated death, but Minx felt none of the joy of being alive, all that was on her mind was the image of the charred Edward laying unmoving on the ground.
Quickly decreasing her size to about three feet once more, she ran up to Edward and, bitting on one of his front legs, she started dragging him towards the city while creating a frozen slide under him, her heart beating wildly inside her chest. She could feel the life sleeping away from him with every step she took, but all she thought of doing was to take him towards the city. She had no way of healing him, of helping him, but maybe the humans did.
It didn’t take her long until she reached the front gate of the city, but because of her early howls and the sudden snowing, it was crammed up with people trying to head out and see what was going on.
She stopped some distance away from the gate since Edward told her so many times she was not allowed inside the city, released Edward’s leg and started whimpering and howling loudly, not really knowing what to do next. She hoped someone would understand, someone that could help.
Minx’s tragic whimpers and howls soon grabbed the attention of the entire place, with the guards at the entrance grabbing their weapons, ready to engage the beast.
As Minx saw the looks filled with fear, apprehension and hostility in the people’s eyes, her whimpers got even more tragic, sounding more and more like the pained wails of a grieving human, but there was no change in anyone’s expression. All they saw was a giant wolf beast howling at them. No one understood her and since Edward’s chard body looked nothing like a human, they took him for just another beast..
Minx looked down at Edward’s body and could barely hear any breath coming from it. She knew she had failed. She had failed him.
Fear, uncertainty, despair, pain, desire, unwillingness, myriad emotions, some she knew quite well, others feeling for the first time, brought forward by the evolution of her level of existence, started blooming inside of her and as she didn’t know what they meant, only knowing they hurt, she fixed her eyes back on the humans at the gate, the look from before slowly changing colder.
Rage started bubbling inside her, and with that rage, droplets made out of ice started appearing all around her and the humans crowded at the gate, the only spot in a 60 feet radius around her devoid of ice mana being under her feet, where Edward dying body was placed.
Then, all Edward’s words from before, the words he spoke to her every single time even when she couldn’t reply, the words she sometimes understood, sometimes she didn’t came back at her, manifested through her mana, causing a treble in the air all around the city followed by a cold and rage filled voice sounding into every person’s ears.
“If he dies, we’ll all follow.”
The sudden voice made a terrified expression appear onto the normal commoners faces, having not expected the beast to suddenly speak.
As Minx was consumed by her rage and despair while the humans were terrified of the wolf, no one noticed a petite girl making it’s way through the crowd of humans gathered at the gate. That girl was Mya, dressed in a black priest robe with golden embroideries over her sleeves and neck.
Mya’s skinny and petite body allowed her to sneak through the people blocking the entrance with relative ease. She was in the church just before when a loud howl startled her and she also got curious about what was going on, ending up leaving the church to come at the gate. As she was jumping around in the back, trying to get a good look, she heard the wolf’s tragic howls and whimpers and something clicked in her head. She recognized those howls and whimpers, she has heard them before. It was Minx.

Wishing to confirm her suspicion, she started making her way through the crowd heading towards the front and managed to make it through just as Minx’s words resounded through the air.
Her body trembling slightly from the tone of the voice paired with the coldness in the air. Mya fixed her eyes on the unfamiliar wolves in front of her and was disappointed to not recognize any of them.
With a sigh, she was about to turn around when the blueish wolf fixed it’s eyes on her and a soft whisper drifted through the air once more: “Mya.”
Mya’s body shook and she stared back into the wolf’s eyes. She got a feeling a familiarity from those eyes and, seeing none of the rage from before in them, only pleading, pain and despair inside them, she understood. However different she might look, her ears being pointier than before, the color of her fur being blue, she was Minx. She knew it and ran forward without any hesitation.
”Wait.”
“Stop.”
“It’s dangerous.”
All the other people yelled, trying to stop Mya from running towards the beast threatening their city, but Mya didn’t even stop her steps for even a moment. She was sure that this wolf in front of her was indeed Minx.
The guards at the gate, seeing Mya had no intention of stopping, wanted to run up and grab her, only to be stopped as tens of sharp ice spikes formed in the air, all pointing at them.
As Mya reached just in front of Minx, the wolf stepped to the side and pointed towards the charred Edward with her snout while letting out a small whimper. Understanding Minx wanted her to help, she bent down and started casting a healing spell on it.
“Is this a friend or relative, Minx?” asked Mya, doing her best to try and save the wolf, but sadly, she was still barely a level two cleric. Her spells were not strong enough to heal the serious injuries on Edward’s body, but she tried nonetheless.
Minx looked at the light flowing out of Mya’s hands that covered Edward’s body and her anxiety started to die down a bit, unaware that Mya was barely delaying his death, not strong enough to actually heal him.
Just as she was about to respond to Mya’s question, Minx felt a wave of heat penetrating the ice domain she created, causing her to move her eyes back towards the entrance of the city. There, a relatively young man was walking forward with the people all around moving back to make space for him. He had a bright red staff in one of his hands and the ice mana all around him easily dissolved into mist before even coming close.
The man had a greedy smile on his face as he looked at Minx and said out loud: “I never expected such a majestic beast to appear at the gates of our city. You will make a great present for a certain ice beauty.
Minx got a dangerous feeling from the young looking man, all her instincts telling her to flee, but as she fixed her eyes on Edward’s body, she steeled her heart and took a few steps forward, sitting right between Edward and the man, before releasing a threatening howl.
“Oh? A feisty one are you? haha” laughed the man as he waved his staff and a wave of heat dispelled all the ice spears around. He then waved his staff once more and chains made out of fire appeared from the ground, tying all of Minx’s limbs with ease.
A pained cry escaped Minx’s mouth as the smell of burnt flesh and fur once more tickled her nose, reminding her of what happened to Edward just before. She tried to freeze the chains using her mana, but the man was too strong and she was already spent from all the magic she used earlier, causing her attempt to just suck more of her strength and her legs to buckle under her.
Seeing Minx fall to the ground, Mya turned towards the young looking mage and said out loud: “Please sir, stop. She’s just trying to help her friend.”
The mage turned his eyes on the girl trying to heal the other wolf and said with a mocking voice: “This wolf attacked the city and is now being captured by me. You should return to your church little girl and don’t mettle into other’s affairs.”
Mya wanted to say something else, but just as she opened her mouth to speak, she saw the mage’s expression turning cold and felt fire mana bubbling around her, causing her next words to be stuck in her throat.
The mage, seeing the girl was finally in her place, started approaching the wolf and, moving his hand to touch her fur, he exclaimed: “A fine present indeed.”
Minx knew she couldn’t fight and, using her last bit of strength, turned towards Mya, the same voice from before resounding through the air.
“Please, help him.”
