His journey back was going to take a long time since he had to walk, not having a way to carry Minx in his wolf form. After walking for an entire day while making a small detour around the dungeon so he wouldn’t encounter those adventurers again, night started to slowly return to the lands.
He would have liked it to keep watch over Minx tonight as well, but he was too tired and really needed to rest. After finding a place that looked isolated enough, he gently placed Minx on the soft grass at the base of a tree and laid down next to her after removing his clothes.
[I forgot to ask you, but could you check you status before going to sleep?]
Edward was too tired to ask about why Fenrir would mention this so he just summoned his tablet as she said.

[Weird…] murmured Fenrir, but Edward didn’t really care that much. Seeing no change have appeared on it, he closed his eyes and went to sleep.
“What is it doing?” asked Edward as soon as he appeared in his mind. He was worried about Minx and not the wolf.
“He just went hunting. Since you went around the dungeon and are a bit far away from the road, he should find pray to hunt with ease.”
“That’s good. Let’s hope he doesn’t bump into any random adventurers. Why did you make me check the tablet earlier?”
“The wolf grew stronger after devouring all the lightning brought forth by the world tribulation and I figured that might reflect over your body as well, but I guess I was wrong. Maybe it’s because the lightning is not really life force?…”
“How much stronger is it now?”
“Hmm, around two levels or so stronger? I don’t know how strong it actually is if he doesn’t fight any strong enemy.”
“That is worrisome. I should let the others know when we go dungeon exploring next time so we don’t have any unfortunate incidents.”
Edward spent the night consulting with Azure and Fenrir over new spells as the wolf hunted wildly. As morning came and Edward returned to his body, he cleaned up the blood he was covered in before turning into his wolf form and following its tracks back towards Minx.
It took Edward a quarter of an hour until he reached the place he left Minx at. He was both relieved to see she was fine and worried since she hasn’t woken up yet even after a whole night.
“How long are you going to sleep for, girl…” said Edward softly as he put on his clothes and went to pick her up again. Lifting her in his arms, he noticed something that wasn’t there before. Through her fur he felt a small round mark right on her belly. Looking closely at it, he saw that half of it was while while the other half was black.
“Fenrir, do you know what this is? She didn’t use to have this mark before.”
[That’s Hel’s mark. It must have been left the moment her soul was sent to Hel. If it appeared on her body it must mean her soul has finally started to fuse back into her body.]
Edward nodded and said: “Let’s hope she’ll get better soon…”
Picking up Minx, he started walking towards the City of Ashes again. The journey back was doomed to take a long time, especially since he had to carry Minx in his arms the whole way, but there was nothing he could do about it.
After around a week of constant walking during the day while letting the wolf hunt freely at night, a change finally happened. Once day, as he was walking on the road between the city and the dungeon, he felt Minx’s body move slightly in his arms.
Anxious while at the same time joyous, Edward moved to the side of the road and placed her down on the soft grass. She looked to still be peacefully sleeping, but Edward was sure he has felt her move just now.
He kept staring at her as he waited for a change for another quarter of an hour until she moved one of her front paws again.
“Minx, can you hear me?” asked Edward as he gently grabbed the paw she just moved in his hand, a deep anxiousness obvious in his voice.
Minx’s eyelids trembled in response and she slowly opened her eyes. Slowly standing up without responding, she looked around for a while before fixing her eyes on Edward.
Edward was overjoyed, with tears streaming down his cheeks, but Minx just looked confused as her voice drifted through the air into Edward’s ear: “What happened?”
Hearing her voice, Edward broke down and hugged her tightly in his arms, crying continuously.
She was alright. After all this time, after having thought he lost her, hearing the sound of her voice was like a pardon from the heavens. He knew no way to express the relief and joy he was feeling right now so he just settled for hugging her tightly while crying to let out all the anxiousness he felt for the last few days.
Minx had no memory of what happened or why was Edward crying while hugging her, which made her very confused, but she didn’t say anything else and just waited for him to calm down while trying to piece back her memories.
[It’s good to see you awake again, Minx.] even Fenrir chimed, her voice sounding from the mark on his arm.
The scene where a young man kept hugging a confused looking wolf went on for another half an hour until Edward finally let her go. The moment he did that and opened his mouth to say something, the loud sound of a rumbling stomach came from Minx’s belly, making Edward just swallow his words and break into a fit of laughter.
“You must be hungry. Let’s go hunt for something to eat and speak after.” Said Edward after having his share of laughter and he turned into his wolf form.

Looking to the side and seeing Minx watching him curiously, he whimpered softly before rushing into the forest by the side of the road. Minx followed after him even if she was feeling a little weak and was having trouble keeping up with his speed.
It didn’t take long for the small pack to come across their first animal. It was just a simple boar, not even a magic beast. Edward, knowing Minx must be weak since she hasn’t eaten in quite a while, jumped towards the boar and killed it with one swift bite on the neck before carrying it back in his mouth.
Dropping the dead boar in front of her, Edward turned back into his human form and said: “Go eat. You must be starving.”
Minx had a lot of questions, but Edward was right, she was starving. Without saying a single word, she started gorging on the boar in front of her.
Edward until she was just about to finish eating and, seeing she didn’t even seem close to being full, said: “I’ll go catch more. You wait here.”, before turning into his wolf form once more and diving into the forest.
After catching a few more wild animals, Minx was finally full. Edward used a water spell to wash the blood off of her and asked: “Are you alright? Do you feel anything strange or different”
Minx shook her wolf head and didn’t say anything, just staring at Edward like she was waiting for him to explain what was happening.
Edward came up to her without saying a single word and gave her a small kiss on the top of her head.
“I..I thought I lost you.. I’m sorry, Minx.” Said Edward, his voice trembling slightly as tears threatened to start flowing once again.
Minx didn’t know what he was saying and what has happened, having no memory after she had swallowed the monster core, but she was able to understand from his voice and behavior that it must have been something bad.
Bringing her head closer to his face and rubbing softly against it, she asked: “Did Minx do something bad? Why is Edward crying?”
“No, no. Minx did nothing bad. I did and I’m sorry. I put you in danger once more. I’m so sorry.” Hearing the sadness in Minx’s voice and the fact that she wanted to blame herself made Edward feel a lot worse.
“Minx doesn’t understand.”
Edward sighed and started to slowly tell her everything that happened after she ate the core. Finally having an idea of what has happened, even if she didn’t understand exactly how she was alive right now, Minx licked Edward’s cheek and said: “Minx is happy to be with Edward and doesn’t care about anything else.”
Her word did nothing to soothe Edward’s guilty feelings, but he understood this must be her way of saying she wanted to put it past her. Putting on a stiff smile, Edward forced his tears back and rubbed her head as he said: “Thank you, Minx. I’m happy to be with you as well.”
His plan was to continue going towards the city, but since Minx was back, he felt the need to just spend some time with her. Thinking for a moment, he stood up and asked: “Is there anything you want to do, Minx? I still have some time until I have to return to the city and thought we might have some fun together.”
Minx turned her head to the side and asked: “Fun?”
“Something you like to do. Today we’ll do anything you want.”
Minx fell silent for a good while before looking at Edward and saying: “Edward is fun.”
Edward chuckled and decided to just spend the day with her while running through the forest and maybe even hunt some low level magic beasts. He knew she enjoyed every time she went hunting with the wolf.
The two of them spent all the stamina Edward had left just running through the forest randomly while hunting any magic beasts they found on their way. Once his stamina was over, he laid down on the grass while holding Minx close and said: “I’m going to sleep to recover my stamina. You go have fun with the wolf.”
Minx didn’t understand exactly why Edward was behaving like this, but she did indeed enjoy spending time with him. She felt that as long as he wanted to do something, she would like it as well, no matter what it was.
As Edward fell asleep and the wolf took over, another round of hunting went on, this time a bit short as Edward took back control after his stamina recovered.
Seeing Minx licking the blood off her fur nearby, Edward helped her clean up using a water spell and asked: “Did you have fun with the wolf?”
Minx nodded even if she didn’t really understand the meaning of the word fun completely.
Edward also kept careful watch over Minx to find out if there were any side-effects of her soul leaving her body, but since everything appeared to be alright, he decided it would be about time they returned to the city.
Rubbing her head, he asked: “Are you ready to return home, Minx?”
Minx knew he meant returning to the city and was not that excited about it because most of the time Edward would be inside the city and she would have to wait in the forest outside for him to return, but she didn’t say anything about it and just nodded as she increased her size.
Edward smiled as he climbed on her back and they retraced their steps back. After getting dressed again, he asked her to follow the road east.
By noon on the next day, Edward noticed the forest clearing up and the city walls appearing in his vision not that far ahead.
“City of Ashes. We’re back.”
