Edward watched as Eddena stood up and started walking towards Ingvar and Kara. He felt tired, the entire day of training draining him of all his energy, but he knew he couldn’t really go to sleep with Eddena nearby.
Rubbing Minx’s head, he said: “Are you alright, Minx?”. He knew she was having it tough as well. Minx stretched her neck to enjoy Edward’s rub as her words drifted in his ear.
“Minx is fine, but that woman hurt Edward.”
A smile appeared at the corner of Edward’s lips, knowing she was worried for him.
“She’s doing it so I can grow stronger. I’m not happy either, getting attacked for the entire day, but what she said is not wrong either. I need to grow stronger and fast. This way we’ll never get hurt again.”
“Edward already strong.”
Edward sighed and didn’t comment. He was nowhere near as strong as he needed to be. Seeing that Kara and Eddena started climbing up a tree, he knew they must be planning to go to sleep.
“You should get some sleep as well, Minx. Tonight I’ll just stay awake and try to think of a new spell to learn.” Said Edward as he just laid with his back against a tree. Minx however refused to sleep as well and curled up at his feet.
The night went on as Edward worked on a new spell until the sound of footsteps coming from the side broke his concentration. Looking in the direction the sound was coming from, he spotted Kara walking up to him. Minx also raised her head and gave Kara an unfriendly look.
“Let’s go. I know you want to rest as well.” Said Kara to Edward, ignoring Minx’s look.
Edward looked in the direction of the tree Eddena has climbed to sleep and shook his head: “I can’t.”
“It will be alright.” Said Kara as she bent down and grabbed one of Edward’s arms. After raising him to his feet, she kept holding his arm as she dragged him towards the forest. Minx wanted to follow them but Edward noticed this and said: “Stay here Minx. I’m not going far.”
Minx seemed unwilling but since it was Edward’s request she sat back down and followed the two with her eyes until they disappeared into the thick forest.
Once they were far enough from the camp, Kara released his arm and said: “This should be far enough. Hurry up and go to sleep.”
Edward sighed and said: “I really can’t. If I go to sleep now I will wake up too late and Eddena will come looking for me. There is also the fact that the wolf got a bit stronger and it might choose to attack you as well.”
Kara frowned and asked: “Stronger? How strong is it now?”
“I’m not really sure, but he should be the equivalent of a level ten or even higher.” He knew that his strength and dexterity would double when he used his wolf form skill, but he didn’t know if that applied for wolf as well.
The frown on Kara’s face deepened as she said: “If it’s really that strong I might really not be able to suppress it anymore. There’s also the fact that I can’t bind it using the dungeon floor anymore.”
Edward sighed and said: “Let’s go back. I appreciate the thought but there’s nothing we can do. I can last one more day without sleep.”
Kara seemed a little unwilling but she was aware of her own limits. With a sigh of her own, she nodded and they both started making their way back towards the camp.
Not even ten steps later, a voice startled the two of them: “And here I was, expecting to see some action. Wait, don’t tell me you are already done. That would really be embarrassing for you Edward.”
Following the trace of the voice, Edward and Kara spotted a black silhouette in one of the trees in front of them. Recognizing the voice, Edward said: “Miss Eddena, why are you here?”
Eddena jumped down in front of them and said: “I noticed the two of you lovebirds sneaking our of the camp and wanted to see just how much energy you had left so I can increase your training accordingly.”
Edward’s eyebrow twitched at her implication, but Kara didn’t seem fazed as she said: “Is none of your business what Edward and I do so refrain from sticking your nose into it.”
“Oh? Did the little princess get mad at having her alone time with her boyfriend ruined and now wants to bite at me?” said Eddena with a smirk, arms crossed under her voluptuous chest.
Kara already knew the shamelessness of Eddena so she just shook her head and started walking past her: “Let’s go Edward. There’s no point arguing with her.”
Edward followed after her but when he arrived next to Eddena and was about to pass by, he felt a strong arm grabbing one of his shoulders.
“You stay. Kara can return on her own and I have something I need to ask you.”
“Can’t it wait until tomorrow?” asked Edward, knowing full well that all his interactions with this woman up to now has led him to some degree of suffering and probably this time it would not be any different.
Eddena strengthened her hold on his shoulder in reply and he knew he had no choice. Turning towards Kara who has in meanwhile stopped to wait for him, Edward said: “Go and get some sleep Kara. Thank you again for trying.”
Kara nodded and continued on her way towards the camp. Once she was far from Edward and Eddena, she turned around and a cold look flashed through her eyes as she said softly: “Don’t got any funny ideas.”
Eddena was dragging Edward again deep into the woods when a small gust of wind drifted by her ear and she turned to look back. Smiling softly she turned towards Edward and asked: “So, why were you and Kara sneaking around?”
“This…” Edward stopped and looked back at Eddena, not really sure what to answer. He wanted to make up some lie, but his instincts told him that was not really an option right now.
Seeing Edward hesitating with a foolish expression, the smile slowly disappeared from her face. Her playful tone from earlier gone completely, she said: “I know that you were just pretending to sleep the entire time. After all that happened today there is no way you are not tired. I also heard you say something about the wolf being stronger and attacking Kara. I don’t mind people keeping secrets, but if it threatens the safety of the party or the mission, I need to know. So, are you going to tell me or do I have to beat it out of you?”
Edward sighed and knew there was no way to hide it anymore. He could make up some of his usual bullshit, but she will never believe him.

“There is a curse placed upon me. If I go to sleep, I will turn into a wolf and lose control of my body, trying to eat anyone I lay my eyes upon…”
Eddena looked in Edward’s eyes silently for a good moment before asking: “Does it only happen when you go to sleep?”
“Or I fall unconscious.”
“Who placed this curse on you?”
Edward shook his head, not really finding any purpose in telling her that the curse was placed by a literal God.
“Have you tried removing it?”
“The only way to remove it is to kill the one who placed it in the first place and that’s..”
Eddena pondered for a moment in silence before hitting Edward hard on the back of his neck. Seeing Edward fall down unconscious, she took a step back and continued watching his body with a curious expression.
It didn’t take long and Edward’s body turned into that of the black wolf. Seeing the eyes of the wolf Edward has turned into, even Eddena felt a bit shaken. She has never seen eyes that contained such a deep hunger.
The wolf looked up a Eddena and he knew he had no chance to fight her. He tried turning around and fleeing only to find out he was completely stuck, unable to move a single muscle.
Getting over her initial surprise and apprehension, Eddena bent down in front of the wolf’s mouth and brought her face close to it. Looking at his eyes from so close, she could see the bottomless hunger within even clearer.
“Never full no matter how much you eat… never at peace no matter how much you kill...” Muttered Eddena with a lost look as she moved her arm to touch the wolf’s soft fur.
She wasn’t scared anymore, those eyes that terrified her at the start now giving her a familiar feeling. Just as she was lost in her own thoughts, Edward’s body started turning back into that of a human.
Seeing Edward come back, Eddena shook her head to clear her mind and stood back up: “That was quick. Who else knows about this?”
“Minx, Ingvar, Kara and Echo.”
“As long as your party know and doesn’t kick you out I guess it’s fine. Tomorrow your training will be even tougher since you lied to me, but for now hurry and go to sleep. How long will the transformation hold as you sleep?”
“For around six or seven hours.. It’s not really an exact time.”
“Good. I will make sure you don’t attack Ingvar or Kara. Once you are back to normal, you must return to camp as soon as you can.”
Edward nodded and asked hesitantly: “Are you not scared of it?”. He found her tranquil expression, like it was not a big deal, quite refreshing.
“There are few things that can scare me and that weakling of a curse is not one of them. Now hurry and sleep. I don’t feel like waiting until noon tomorrow for you to be done with you sleeping problems.”
Edward nodded and laid down in front of her before closing his eyes. He had no reason to remove his clothes anymore. After turning just now and the training during the day, they looked more like rags than actual pieces of clothing.
As the wolf took control again, it ran away from Eddena and started heading deeper into the forest. Seeing it disappear from her sight, she touched the scar on her face and sighed softly: “Let’s hope the day you I must hunt you down will never come…”
“I could say the same about you.” Kara’s voice sounded from behind Eddena, but she didn’t seem surprised and just continued looking in the direction Edward has ran into.
“It’s past your bedtime, princess. Why are you still here? Are you worried I would hurt him?”
“Would you?” asked Kara, a serious look on her face.
“For now, I have no reason to. He’s Circe’s disciple and I don’t feel like she’s appreciate it if he somehow ended up dead. More so if it were by my hand.”
“He’s under my protection as well so you better not get any ideas.”
Eddena finally turned away from the direction the wolf has left onto and looked at Kara, one of her eyebrows raised in surprise: “You really have a thing for the little puppy. Does your father know about this?”
Kara shook her head and said: “No, only Ingvar and Faelyn. I trust you’ll keep quiet about everything. They can’t find out yet…”
Eddena chuckled and said: “He’s Circe’s disciple so I will, but you should know that Glass’s daughter already has her eye on him. Also, your father will never agree to it.”
“That’s for me to worry about. Now that I said what I had to, I’m going to sleep.” Replied Kara, looking a bit grumpy as she walked back towards the camp.
Once Kara was gone, Eddena also started walking in the same direction.
“Maybe I should also get a piece of the pie.. Haha, that would surely be fun.”
