Chapter 120: Grinding

This new trait solved Alex's claw durability problem handily but he had to admit that he still wanted the [enhanced claws] trait in order to have his claws reach a more perfect shape much like his scales that had their own version of the trait. 'For now tough i can work on grinding my [sharp claws] trait to the max' he thought with a fanged grin. Alex subconsciously popped a max potion before heading out of his nest and drawing attention to himself since his new metallic claws shined in the sunlight. It was clear that something was different with the claws but they couldn't figure it out even as Alex took off into the sky.

Alex meanwhile enjoyed the cool breeze that could only be found at such high areas like in the sky where he was as he headed towards the ancient forest. The jagras species was an incredibly invasive species that was at home in most places so long as they weren't to hot or cold and reproduced in a batch of twelve to fifteen eggs at a time. This meant there was always an over abundance of the small monsters for Alex to hunt for their [sharp claws] trait.

The bright yellow hides made finding the things easy for alex since they stuck out to him as he flew over the forest. Ambush , kill , devour and repeat , this was the way Alex spent the entire next three days and to great effect as well. The [sharp claws] trait hit level six on the third day after Alex had eaten close to a hundred and eighty of the pesky yellow lizards. More astonishing however was that he came across a jagras that had a completely different color scheme compared to the other he had found.

This jagras was cobalt blue with red markings on it rather than the yellow with blue markings of the normal variety. Alex really wanted to know what made this particular jagras so different than the rest and directly kidnapped it. The scholars were left speechless when Alex showed up in their area of astera with the violently resisting pissed jagras held in his claws. Alex needed to keep hold of the angry reptile for another ten minutes while a small monster capture container was prepared to hold it but he didn't mind since he was much larger and stronger than the jagras making it's struggles pointless.

Once the cage was ready Alex unceremoniously tossed the jagras in and closed the gate in the same instance. It was a good thing he did too as the reptile was absolutely vivid after his treatment of it and thrashed about violently in the cage the moment it was out of Alex's grip. Alex told the scholars to give it about an hour to cool off before they tried testing it and they agreed without hesitation after seeing how irate the small monster was. Alex didn't need to worry about food for the day so he went to the nest to work on his [fire resistance] and [tempered bones] traits.

Overnight Alex's claws adjusted to the new level of sharpness and also left him in a bit of a predicament when he awoke. Before the trait hit level six Alex's claws only sank into the ground a little as he walked but level six was apparently a qualitative change as now they passed through it like it wasn't even there. The fleshy part of his claws weren't affected but it was still fairly annoying to leave four inch holes behind every time he took a step.

Alex in the end had to adjust his walking posture so that his claws didn't touch the ground as he walked. It was a tedious and irritating process but he managed it roughly in three days so besides the occasional slip up it wasn't an issue. In this time the biggest thing that happened was that and expedition into the wildspire waste was being organized to figure out where zorah is headed. Alex volunteered to join as part of the protection detail alongside Zain which was approved by the fleet commander without hesitation.
