Chapter 31: Viral transformation

Alex had almost reached the same level of elemental power as the first kirin from the game at the end of this time frame. his thunder and water elements were just below that point but his fire element still had a ways to go before it could be considered. during this time the events of the story had gone off like he wasn't even there as the freya hunted a poalumu to make the third fleets base fly again. then she had to deal the the rodabaan that stopped the researchers from following zorah's trail.

That hunt was hilarious since alex watched freya complain about how hard it was to get the tar off her dual blades. after that was dealing with a legiana that made the people in the flying base uncomfortable to get near. after that was finding the traces of zorah but no elder dragon which prompted her to seek out the first wyverians. alex helped in this search since he had come across them more than once as he hunted but tended to ignore them. the wyverians seemed to ignore the fact alex hunted rathalos and diablos religiously everyday and sent freya after them before spilling the secret of zorah's goal and location.

There were of course several other monsters and quest freya took on during the gaps in the story missions which let her flesh out her arsenal again. finally a week after the first wyverian basically told freya that everyone was doomed thanks to zorah deciding it wanted to die in the most mutually destructive place it could. during the meeting to figure out if they should evacuate the news and aid from the guild arrived just like in the game , though it wasn't quite as dramatic since they all saw the ship approaching from miles away.

This much like in the game rekindled their passion to fight to stay in the new world and started planning the second operation against zorah. alex's job this time however was not to bother with attacking zorah but to keep an eye out for nergigante who was likely to show up again. this was fine by alex since he fully intended to put nergigante down should it show its face again. alex was very confident against the other dragon after the huge improvement the A virus gave him. to explain we have to back up about three weeks ago at which point two weeks had passed since the ship sailed away to the old world.

At this point alex had finally collected enough points to redeem the A virus and vanished into his nest to use it. alex simply drew a syringe with a orange yellow liquid as the design for what it would look like before paying for it to appear in reality. the system used your own knowledge to create your designs rather than forcing you to actually describe how the stuff worked. as a result anything was possible with enough points but alex made a mistake when he created the virus as he forgot to mention how big the syringe was.

This meant that the thing was at a standard medical size for a human but alex was a huge scaled dragon. alex was forced to rip a hole in his own scales and flesh in order to actually inject the virus into his body. after an hour of waiting alex was starting to worry that he had been ripped off but then he felt a sort of heat develop in his chest. it wasn't very intense at first but as it spread it grew hotter and hotter until alex felt he had swallowed magma.

All of his scales started to fall out and his muscles spasmed in contractions while blood and bits of imperfect genetic material was sent out of his body. it was a gruesome display as his bones snapped and healed rapidly and his marrow was replaced with the new perfected version. his teeth , horns and spines all fell out as a more perfect version took their place and his eyes bled and oozed as they were improved. alex's tail grew thicker and more spiked while to serrated spike on the end fell of and was replaced by a longer crimson version with micro burs to tear flesh even better.

The final change appearance wise was when alex's scale regrew thicker and even more elementally resistant and went from being flat and smooth to almost spike like. alex also grew slightly longer legs while all of his claws turned scarlet and even sharper. internally alex's muscles grew even more dense reaching a monstrous eight times density. his muscle structure was perfected for apex performance while his body was adjusted in metabolism to support this increased need for energy and nutrients. alex passed out after the pain stopped from how exhausting the process had been on him mentally and he was out for three whole days.
