Chapter 33: Kirin hunt

Zorah magdaros wasn't even putting up a fight anymore when it reached the barricade so when it was pushed out to sea with the dragonater it didn't even hesitate. everyone celebrated but alex decided to mess with the admiral who was watching the whole operation from the nearby cliff caves. thanks to his eagle like vision alex found the admiral easily and took off into the air straight towards the man. at first everyone was worried that it was nergigante but the fleet commander used a handheld telescope to see what alex was going after.

"Just ignore it!" he called out and everyone simply shrugged and went back to partying. the admiral hadn't expected anyone to notice him watching the whole event passively so when he saw alex charging him he was briefly panicked. the admiral didn't run however since he was the most familiar with alex out of everyone and knew he wasn't attacking. alex dug his claws into the hard black stone and craned his neck into the small cave entrance and stared at the admiral mockingly. "yeah yeah , i get it , i missed all the fun no need to rub it in." the admiral said with a huge smile.

"It's good to see you sid , you've changed a lot in the last few months i was gone i see." the admiral said tapping on alex's new horns and scales but wisely kept his hands away from alex's teeth. alex snorted at the man and rolled his eyes at his antics. "i'm not coming back just yet sid , i've found a lead on where nergigante has been coming from i want to check out first , get me?" the man asked seriously. alex nodded and gave the man a squirt of water for good measure before pushing off the cliff face and into the air.

"Bah , ornery bastard." the admiral spat under his breath after alex left but he still smiled at how well alex was doing. 'things are bound to be interesting with that one around' he thought with a smirk before walking back through the cave. meanwhile alex showed his flying skill with a smooth recovery after basically backflipping off the cliff face. just because he felt like stroking his ego a little alex sent out several different colored fireballs that burst like fireworks. this brought cheers from the people partying as it was a gorgeous spectacle.

Alex relaxed for the next week only hunting enough to keep him well fed without care for points as he waited. soon the news he wanted to hear showed up on a stormy day , the kirin had appeared in the coral highlands. wasting no time at all alex flew to the area and begun to search for the dragon horse. if alex's vision hadn't been improved so much he might have missed the thing too since it blended in extremely well with the rest of the highlands. the elder was soaking up bolts of lightning like it was sunlight which was what gave it away.

Alex landed on the ground in front of the dragon and roared out a challenge. elder dragons were all arrogant creatures that existed at the top of the food chain so getting challenged made them unlikely to flee. nergigante's situation was a bit unique in that it had already clashed with alex and knew he matched and suppressed it. as a result it could instinctively tell alex had grown explosively since then and knew better than to confront him. this didn't apply to the kirin however as it had never seen alex before and as a result didn't know the danger it was in.

"NEIGH!" the elder accepted the challenge and sealed it's fate. alex didn't even flinch when a bolt of lightning struck him under the kirins command getting a confused look from the elder. the ground burst under alex as he wing dashed into the elder and dug his scarlet claws into its side which was surprisingly difficult. the kirin was very physically powerful but its hide still had to resist the impact of lightning bolts making it surprisingly sturdy despite its lack of thick scales. this meant alex could only dig into the flesh below with a hard grip.

The elder screamed in surprise and pain as alex bowled it over hard into the ground. alex took a page from rajang's book and grabbed the horn of the kirin as well as just above it's shoulders and pulled. alex roared in effort as he pulled the kirins head back while pushing it's shoulders down until a loud "CRACK" sounded out and the kirin stopped moving. snapping the kirins neck wasn't enough to kill it but only paralyzed it so alex ruthlessly cut of the head putting it down.
