Chapter 48: Perfect metal

Alex roared out his victory before taking the corpse and freya back to astera after stopping back at the camp to pick up alex's treasures and the admiral. there was a huge party held at the seemingly end of the clues to follow that nergigante's death signaled. it was clear to the entire commission that there was a piece of the puzzle missing as to why the elder dragons chose this land in particular as their final resting place but the reason for the elder crossing had technically been figured out. alex knew that in a few weeks the wanderer would show up to lead freya and the admiral to that missing puzzle piece.

Nergigante was almost just as tough to eat as deviljho but the biggest difference was that it tasted more like the diablos and gave far more points. two point five million points to be precise , a large increase compared to the other elder dragons but considering how nergigante also hunted those it wasn't hard to believe. an interesting thing to note was that much like all the other species in the new world there was only a single member of the species out and about at a single time with the very rare exception.

This meant that once the original nergigante was brutalized by alex another member of the species showed up shortly there after. this new member however did not know how fucked it was when alex showed up and actually thought it could hunt alex. it did not have a pleasant ending much like it's predecessor. this time alex didn't need to hold back on his power and just directly fried the nergigante with lightning. it was dead before it could even process it's situation as the world seemed to flash white and the loud crack of thunder rang out.

As it turned out using electricity to kill the nergigante worked wonders to tenderize the meat to an acceptable level. thanks to this discovery it became a common sight for alex to show up at astera with a nergigante corpse for the next three weeks. this also meant that alex's point stockpile increased by roughly fifty two point five million points. alex had of course dropped thirty six point two million points on the final dragon element along with the modification of the spikes along his backbone and elemental orb.

The difference between this new element versus when alex got the others was that he didn't get two new horns on his head. rather he added a star shaped red gem in the center of his birth mark that served the same purpose plus allowed the fusion of the dragon element and any other element if he focused them there. the elemental treasure orb set was finally complete and the resonance between them made alex's elements skyrocket in power and volume. but the biggest difference was that the extra energy that didn't soak into alex was so dense that it actually caused a strange mineral to slowly condense in mid air over time.

When the researchers took one of the vanta black metallic crystals to study with alex's permission they discovered that it was the most superior metal ever recorded. the metal had a perfect affinity with every single element known and was named in honor of alex himself , obsidiarite. besides the slow rate at which the stuff condensed alex discovered another problem with the mineral. he couldn't manipulate it with his goro goro no mi powers like normal metal. in fact the stuff was almost entirely unworkable as it's perfect elemental affinity made it almost everything proof.

The trick alex found to working the metal was to flood it with both fire and lightning energy at the same time causing the conflicting elements of destruction to soften the metal into a malleable state. the problem with his approach was that it required a stupid amount of both types of energy and that the flow of all that energy couldn't be interrupted during the shaping process otherwise the metal returned to it's unusable state near instantly. this meant alex was forced to hold the metal while the smiths beat it into shape all while simultaneously channeling a frightening amount of energy into it.
