Chapter 74: Going for a swim

Alex completed the unlock for [bone eater] , [compact stomach] and [amphibious eyes] two days later and finally felt ready to grow bigger. This was not an instant process much like when he unlocked any other trait and took three days to complete. Alex went from half a foot to a little under two feet long not including his very long tail which left him looking a bit like a demonic iguana. The worst part had to be the growing pains from the massive increase in size and weight that made his whole body ache for a day after it was done.

'Finally i can go explore the nearby waters for treasure , i refuse to believe there aren't any valuable things down there.' Alex thought as he stretched after waking up. Looking around Alex one could see that that he was actually in a small room about six feet cubed that was empty save the cloth and feathered pile that Alex used as a bed. The door to this room was more a flap of cloth that was easily pushed aside than an actual door but that didn't bother Alex any. This arrangement was set up for him once he started noticeably growing to show the people of astera's sincerity.

This "nest" was located in a disused closet of the repurposed ship near the meeting area so when Alex walked out he was in the heart of the town. As Alex walked he got a few curious looks from people wanting to know what he was up to but wasn't bothered by anyone much like the small pig that also made astera it's home. apparently the pig was one of the fourth fleets peoples pet when they made the journey to the new world and was named Puggie.

After a few minutes of walking Alex was at the docks where people were constantly at work moving goods at all times. to make matters worse the stockpile for supplies was also located in this area which made it the single highest trafficked area in town. "oi! where you off to sid?" a loud voice called out to Alex. It had taken Alex almost a week to respond to the name and nick name given to him by the people of astera. Obsidian or sid for short was the name he was given this life , though he tended to still refer to himself with his past life's name.

The person who had called out to Alex was the dock foreman who basically kept the whole area under his purview. It wasn't strange that he had noticed the large black reptile strolling by but the fact he called out to Alex was not something Alex expected. Turning to look at the shirtless brown haired man Alex tilted his head slightly to basically ask the man to repeat himself. "Noticed you headed somewhere and was wondering where." the man explained with a smile. Alex nodded in understanding and pointed his tail at the sea  to tell the man where he was going.

The man got an interested gleam in his eye when he got this answer. "If you find anything interesting out there bring it on back and i'll trade ya for it , sound good?" the man asked with a grin. Alex thought about it for a moment but couldn't see anything wrong with this proposal and if anything may even benefit from it. Understanding this Alex nodded in agreement to which the man just gave him a wide smile and a thumbs up before directing foot traffic again.

Seeing the man no longer needing his attention Alex walked over to the edge of the wooden flooring over the water and sliding over the side in one smooth movement. While the water no longer bothered his eyes it still took a moment for Alex's eyes to adjust since the skill was only level one. Once they did however it was clear to alex that this trait was worth getting as astera was built right next to a colorful reef. a good portion of the reef had been destroyed to make it safe for ships but the parts in the deeper water were still there.
