Chapter 90: Bad habits

Once he had his game plan set Alex had gotten into the habit of downing a max potion every few hours in order to give his body time to digest it. If he was injured his body would naturally digest the helpful stuff much faster , however self mutilation was a little too far when it wasn't necessary for Alex. That said he was still making good progress on the trait as each day that passed he was another three or four potions closer to getting the trait unlocked. Unfortunately much like coffee consuming potions recreationally rather than when actually injured led to Alex forming an addiction to the stuff.

While he could function just fine without the stuff he was left irritable and grumpy if he didn't have his daily dose of healing liquid. It was an odd addiction to have but was perfectly harmless unlike coffee that could cause serious health problems depending on a few factors. Roya was confused to an extreme degree at this strange habit of Alex's but simply chalked it up to his unknown species in the end since she couldn't find any reason for it otherwise.

Waking at dawn and grabbing one of the nearby max potions Alex started his day at the end of the month like usual for the last four weeks. The difference was that today Alex was going to be leveling up several of his traits at the same time. To be specific [Compact stomach] , [Amphibious eyes] , [Bone eater] , [poison eater] , [poison resistance] , [armored scales] and [Paralysis resistance]. These traits All had very specific requirements to level up that had to do with consuming something and as a result had been Alex's target for improvement this whole time. In addition to unlocking new traits Alex always set aside time to work on the easy to improve traits such as these.

The Number attached to these requirements were the reason it had taken him this long to improve them further but Alex didn't mind it at all. His daily routine barring any exception was to eat his "hang mans meal" as he liked to call it that was comprised of toadstools , parashrooms , and small fish all stir fried together and served on a pile of bones. The first time Roya witnessed him eating this deadly combination with gusto she was astonished but not confused.

There were several monsters that consumed poisonous or strange things as  matter of course such as the pukei pukei so the fact Alex did so wasn't weird. What was weird about this was that he showed none of the traits that those very monsters did such as his own poison or paralytic agents. As far as she could tell alex ate these things not because it fuels any of his own functions but rather simply because he can , as for eating bones even people do that so it isn't that odd at all. The [Armored scales] trait that Alex had instead required a certain number of heavy hits to level up.

Usually after eating to the point of bloat to increase the [compact stomach] trait Alex would spend the rest of the day in any manner he saw fit occasionally downing a max potion. Sometimes he would go for a swim and others he would ditch his stalker by going flying instead which had naturally leveled up that trait to four over time. Roya knew that Alex went flying every now and then simply to get rid of her not that she could blame him since getting shadowed everywhere probably gets very irritating.

After another "meal" Alex shivered as multiple traits leveled up at the same time which was noticeable no mater how small the changes were. After his meal Alex spent the last couple of hours of the day smashing his tail into his sides as hard as he could. This was an incredibly violent thing to watch even if Alex wasn't truly harmed in the process. Roya had seen similar actions with thick scaled monsters out in the wild to groom themselves so she knew that this could even be considered a type of self grooming for Alex.
