Chapter 45:
New Beginnings
"Love?" Cecelia questioned, concern on her face, "What's going on? You don't often reply as you did."
"Ah...sorry about that, dear," Cupping her cheek, I felt the cold wind blow against me, "I need to talk to you all..."
Turning from them, I returned to the railing, a dark cloud hanging over my head. Leaning against it, I looked out over the city. Taking it all in, I felt the weight of the grave task before me. Yet, I steeled my heart.
"You know the doctor reports, don't you?" It was more a statement than a question as I addressed them.
"Yes," Julius replied grimly, "It's not good."
"No, it isn't," I agreed, the rage inside of me keeping me warm, "The only lead we have is Derek, my sister's ex and I guess current boyfriend..."
The thought of it caused my skin to itch. To think he came back into her life. It was unpleasant to the highest degree. Turning towards them, Cecelia smiled as she saw the look on my face. Her eyes taking on a lustful gaze as she looked upon me.
"My...what a look, my love," She cooed, making her way towards me, "What is your command?"
Her lips curled sadistically as her fingers lifted my chin to look at her.
"Say the word," She said with a deadly glint in her eye.
"Find him," I told her, venom on my tongue, "I want to be there when you do. Do not kill him. I want to know who was involved....and make them suffer."
Leaning down to me, her lips fell upon my cheek in a tender kiss.
"As you wish, my love," She whispered, pulling away from me, "Let's get to it. I've been waiting..."
"I'm sure you'd have done so anyways," I gave her a knowing smirk, to which she shrugged coyly.
Julius raised an eyebrow, seemingly satisfied. Yuriko made her way to my side, her arms looping around mine.
"We'll get them, sweetie," Yuriko promised, her words washing over me like a calm stream, "I promise you."
"Thanks, darling," Giving her a kiss on her cheek, I gazed out over the city once more.
Taking in the lights like the stars in the sky. I felt like I just started something huge, and I would finish it.

With my sister finally stabilized, everyone was able to finally take a breath. Though another shock soon came to everyone when I finally introduced them properly to Cecelia. First, it was Alana. Since we were taking her in, she would be staying with us.
Departing from everyone, we had returned home. It was there that I saw Alana's face light up with the purest of emotions. Wonder, confusion, joy. She couldn't believe the size of the penthouse I was staying at, nor could she even believe it was real. I could understand and sympathize with her.
The lavish lifestyle I had been living up until now still felt like a dream. For her, who lived even worse than I ever did, it must feel like another world. It was another world.
"Uncle...This..." Her eyes wide, she looked truly like a child in that moment, "Things like this...exist?"
My hand on her shoulder, I gave an understanding squeeze.
"Yeah, tell me about it," Laughing lightly, motioned for her to follow, "I was the same way when I saw where Cecelia worked. Even more so when I realized just who she was..."

"Who she was?" Alana questioned, glancing over her shoulder at Cecelia who was talking in hushed whispers over the phone, "She certainly does seem...important."
Cecelia had a job to do at the moment. She was getting everything set up for finding Derek. Only Yuriko was available as she accompanied us, but that was because I requested it. Alana needed someone who she could bond with. Someone who could help her settle in.
She had taken an instant liking to Yuriko, and Cecelia would be busy. Julius, as much as he would help, was a bit too cold outside and was also a man. Even I couldn't help with what Alana needed.
"She is, yes," I nodded, the weight of the truth heavy on my words, "Have you heard of the Ishikawa-Alden Corp?"
"I mean, yeah, hasn't everyone?" She gave me a confused look, "Does she work for them?"
"Not quite," I laughed lightly, "Think...owns them."
"Owns?" Her confusion deepened as she began to think, "But then that would mean..."
"Exactly," I gave her a knowing look, her eyes widening as she realized what I was saying, "She is Cecelia Meredith Williams Ishikawa-Alden. Head of the Ishikawa-Alden Corp, as well as of the family."
"No fucking way," Alana rarely cursed, but that was just how stunned she was.
Yuriko, who was on the other side of Alana, beamed as she intoned, "Yep! I'm Scarlett Yuriko Ishikawa-Alden! Her younger sister!"
Alana stopped in her tracks as she held up a hand. Holding the bridge of her nose with the other, I could see she was trying to process the information.
"Wait...So you're not Yuriko? You're Scarlett?" Alana asked first.
"No! Yuriko!" Yuriko half-pouted, "Yuriko...doesn't like the name Scarlett."
Her eyes grew distant, my heart aching at the sight. Reaching a hand over to her, I cupped her cheek gently, attempting to comfort her. Immediately, she smiled brightly, pressing my hand closer against her skin. Alana's curious gaze did not escape me.
"You have a question?" I asked softly.
"S-Several, honestly," Laughing awkwardly, she looked around the place, "Can we...sit anywhere?"
"Yes, I know a place," Releasing Yuriko's cheek, I brought Alana to my favorite spot in the penthouse.
It was a cozy room with one wall just windows that looked out over the city. It was gently snowing out, giving the neon signs in the distance a beautiful haze to them. A fireplace softly roared to life as we entered, giving the room a warm glow.
Before the fireplace was a round coffee table, decorated with a vase and beautiful orchids. Around the table was semi-circular couch. Cushioned and comfortable. Off to the side was a divan set near the windows and a bookshelf built into the wall. A lamp nearby was currently off, but that was where I often lounged to read.
The walls of the room were all bookshelves, save for where the windows, door, and fireplace were. Walking in, I took up a seat on the couch before the fireplace and table. Alana sitting down nearby, and Yuriko curling up beside me, head on my shoulder.
"Is this comfortable enough?" I asked her, smiling gently.
"Y-Yeah," She marveled at everything, particularly the flowers on the table, "This is...amazing."
"Isn't it? This is my favorite room here. Nice and cozy," I found myself gazing into the fire, thinking on what was to come, "Alana...this place is your home now, as much as it is mine. Please, don't be afraid to ask for anything."
With tears forming in her eyes, she nodded. I could tell she was overwhelmed, as I knew just what it was like. The reality of it was beginning to hit her. Letting her get it out of her system, we sat in silence until she was ready to talk.
