Chapter 77:
Alana's Anger
Henry was a spy. One that Cecelia had an eye on since he arrived. She instructed Sadia to keep a watchful eye on me, and to make sure Henry stayed away. When Sadia received an alert that woke her, she immediately set about her day.
Trained as she was, it was easy for her to dress in a timely manner and arrive to my location. She watched from a distance, taking cues from my actions that I wanted to be alone, but as she saw Henry enter the lounge, she made her move. Attempting to apprehend him, rather than kill him, he made the mistake of attacking me, and paid for it.
Though the Chef knew nothing about Henry, they had to be let go. They were now a security risk. They were distraught at being lied to, but the severance pay softened the blow. Those that suggested Henry would be taken care of in short order. For now, Cecelia cleaned house.
Someone let leak where they were currently staying. There were only a few suspects, so the list was easily whittled down. They had brought in servants who were on standby while no one used the penthouse, and so that was where the list started. In short order, each one was cleared.
This was much to my relief, as several of them had been around Alana. Cecelia told me I had to worry more about myself, but I simply replied cheekily, "Isn't that why you're around?"
Though she was amused, I found myself pinned to the wall until she was satisfied I understood how much I meant to her. "She has a strong grip..." Rubbing my wrists, I could still feel her hands holding me. I didn't hate it.
Blushing, I shook my head as I brought myself to the present. There were investigations going on, but everyone here was cleared. I was grateful Henry's mess was cleaned up before Alana woke. Though she could tell something was going on, I tried to dissuade her, but she was stubborn.
"So...You were attacked?" She frowned across from me at the table, "Who was it?"
There was anger in her eyes. A burning fire that flared to life. Raising a hand, I tried to reassure her.
"They're gone, Alana," I tried to change the subject, but the look she gave me caused me to cave, "...Fine, it was Henry, the Chef's assistant."
"What!?" She yelled, standing up angrily, "But he cooked us breakfast! Lunch! Snacks!"
"Y-Yeah..." Taken aback by her sudden outburst, I was quite impressed with how energetic she got, "I know..."
"He could have poisoned us! Poisoned you!" She declared, slamming her fist on the table.
"A-Alana..." Trying to calm her down, I raised my hands in a defensive manner, "Relax, I know...He could have. Trust me, I'm furious."
The thought that he could have poisoned us occurred to me. When I think of what could have happened to any one of them, my blood began to boil, but to see Alana so upset about it tore at my heart. Seeing my distressed state, Alana huffed as she crossed her arms and sat back down.
"I just...Why?" She asked angrily, "Why did this happen?"
"I don't know," I answered honestly, "Corporate espionage? Revenge? Cecelia is a powerful woman...and that comes with enemies."
Staring at me from across the table, Alana didn't seem convinced. If anything, that made her angrier, more concerned.
"Are you sure you should stay married to her then?" She asked directly, leaning forward, "If you're in danger then-"
"They will pay," Cecelia spoke up, interrupting Alana as she walked into the room, "If anyone, and I mean anyone harms Alex...or even attempts to, I'll-"
"Cecelia!" Cutting her off, I gave her a stern look.

"You'll what?" Alana asked, glaring towards her, "I want to know."
"Alana, just-" I tried to calm the situation, but failed.
"No, Uncle," She interrupted, adamant, "I want to know. You told me I could ask you anything."
Her words stung deep, as I did tell her that. The look Cecelia gave me as she shrugged caused me to slump back in defeat.
"Alana..." Sighing, my words were tired, "Of course you can ask me anything. I just...want you to be a child. At least for a while longer, you know? All this..."
I motioned around at nothing in particular. Alana watched me, her demeanor relaxing as she looked away slightly sullen.
"Sorry, Uncle..." She muttered, a bit dejected, "I don't mean to upset you or...Well, I know you want me safe, but you are important to me. If anything were to happen to you then-"
"It won't," Cecelia stated instantly, cutting through her words, "You asked, and Alex just wants you to be a kid for a while longer...I'll leave it at this. I will crush anyone who goes after him, or you, as you are precious to him."
"P-Precious?" Alana's demeanor shifted, changing as a light pink entered her cheeks, "Really?"
With eyes wide, her gaze fell on me. Suddenly, I felt extremely sheepish.
"I-I mean...yeah. I thought you knew that," I smiled just as sheepishly as I felt, "You mean a lot to me. All you've been through...You deserve better."
"...As do you, Uncle," Alana finally seemed to be calming down, but as her eyes passed from me, she looked back at Cecelia, "Cecelia...Make sure he does."
There was a spark between their gazes. As I looked on, it felt like I was seeing a battle of titans. The cool gaze of Cecelia was met with the unwavering gaze of Alana. A deafening silence fell over the room. "I should say somethi-" My thoughts were interrupted before I even had the chance to speak, my mouth left half-open.
"Quiet, dear," She said tenderly, smiled amusingly, "Us girls are talking."
"T-Talking? You're just staring at each other..." I wasn't one about to argue with Cecelia when she seemed so focused, and Alana seemed of the same mind. "I guess I'm outnumbered here..." I could do nothing but look between the two of them.
I don't know how long they held eye-contact for. I was afraid to even move before they did. Finally, after what seemed an eternity, I could breathe again as both Cecelia and Alana relaxed.
There seemed to be a twinkle in Cecelia's eyes as she placed a loving hand on my shoulder. Alana, likewise, seemed satisfied as she looked out of the window to the city below. Her gaze seeming cooler, calmer.
I was left there completely lost as I felt like something momentous just happened, and I completely missed it. "W-What the hell just happened?"
